This is the account of the families of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the three sons of Noah. Many children were born to them after the great flood. Descendants of Japheth1Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
The descendants of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.2The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
The descendants of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.3And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.4And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
Their descendants became the seafaring peoples that spread out to various lands, each identified by its own language, clan, and national identity. Descendants of Ham5By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
The descendants of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.6And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.7And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.
Cush was also the ancestor of Nimrod, who was the first heroic warrior on earth.8And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
Since he was the greatest hunter in the world, his name became proverbial. People would say, “This man is like Nimrod, the greatest hunter in the world.”9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.
He built his kingdom in the land of Babylonia, with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh.10And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
From there he expanded his territory to Assyria, building the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah,11Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,
and Resen (the great city located between Nineveh and Calah).12And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.
Mizraim was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,13And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,
Pathrusites, Casluhites, and the Caphtorites, from whom the Philistines came.14And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.
Canaan’s oldest son was Sidon, the ancestor of the Sidonians. Canaan was also the ancestor of the Hittites,15And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth,
Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,16And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite,
Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,17And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,
Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. The Canaanite clans eventually spread out,18And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.
and the territory of Canaan extended from Sidon in the north to Gerar and Gaza in the south, and east as far as Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, near Lasha.19And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.
These were the descendants of Ham, identified by clan, language, territory, and national identity. Descendants of Shem20These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.
Sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth. Shem was the ancestor of all the descendants of Eber.21Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.
The descendants of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.22The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.
The descendants of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.23And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.24And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.
Eber had two sons. The first was named Peleg (which means “division”), for during his lifetime the people of the world were divided into different language groups. His brother’s name was Joktan.25And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.
Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,26And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,27And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,28And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were descendants of Joktan.29And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.
The territory they occupied extended from Mesha all the way to Sephar in the eastern mountains.30And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east.
These were the descendants of Shem, identified by clan, language, territory, and national identity. Conclusion31These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.
These are the clans that descended from Noah’s sons, arranged by nation according to their lines of descent. All the nations of the earth descended from these clans after the great flood.32These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
