20	He did not refuse to confess, but openly declared, “I am not the Christ.	He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”	And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.	And he confessed and did not deny; and <i>this is what</i> he confessed: “I am not the Christ.”	He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”
21	“Then who are you? they inquired. “Are you Elijah? He said, “I am not. “Are you the Prophet? He answered, “No.	And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”	And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.	And <i>so</i> they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”	They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
22	So they said to him, “Who are you? We need an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?	So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”	Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?	Then they said to him, “Who are you? <i>Tell us,</i> so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”	Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23	John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet: “I am a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’ ”	He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”	He said, I <i>am</i> the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.	He said, “I am THE VOICE OF ONE CALLING OUT IN THE WILDERNESS, ‘MAKE THE WAY OF THE LORD STRAIGHT,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”	John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”

25	asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet? 26	“I baptize with water, John replied, “but among you stands One you do not know. I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.”	And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.	And I did not recognize Him, but so that He would be revealed to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”	I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”
32	Then John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove and resting on Him.	And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. And John testified, saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. 33	I myself did not know Him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is He who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.	I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’	And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.	And I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’	And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
34	I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.	And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”	And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.	And I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”	I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”
35	The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36	When he saw Jesus walking by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!	and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”	And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!	and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”	When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

39	“Come and see, He replied. So they went and saw where He was staying, and spent that day with Him. It was about the tenth hour.	He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.	He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.	He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day; it was about the tenth hour.	“Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40	Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John’s testimony and followed Jesus.	One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.	One of the two which heard John <i>speak</i>, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.	One of the two who heard John <i>speak,</i> and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41	He first found his brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated as Christ). 43	The next day Jesus decided to set out for Galilee. Finding Philip, He told him, “Follow Me.	The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.”	The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.	The next day He decided to go to Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow Me.”	The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”

Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses wrote in the Law, and the prophets <i>also wrote:</i> Jesus the son of Joseph, from Nazareth!”	Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46	“Can anything good come from Nazareth? Nathanael asked. “Come and see, said Philip.	Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”	And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.	Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good be from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”	“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.
47	When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, He said of him, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.	Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”	Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!	Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Here is truly an Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!”	When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
48	“How do You know me? Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, “Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.	Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”	Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.	Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”	“How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
49	“Rabbi, Nathanael answered, “You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!	Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”	Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.	Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel!”	Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
50	Jesus said to him, “Do you believe just because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these.	Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”	Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.	Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”	Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.”
51	Then He declared, “Truly, truly, I tell you, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”	And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”	And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.	And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”	He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”
