1 After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place He was about to visit. 2 And He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest. And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly <i>is</i> great, but the labourers <i>are</i> few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. 4 Carry no purse or bag or sandals. Do not greet anyone along the road. Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. Carry no money belt, no bag, no sandals, and greet no one along the way. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5 Whatever house you enter, begin by saying, ‘Peace to this house. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace <i>be</i> to this house. And whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace <i>be</i> to this house.’ “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’
6 If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And if a man of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.
7 Stay at the same house, eating and drinking whatever you are offered. For the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move around from house to house. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they provide; for the laborer is deserving of his wages. Do not move from house to house. Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
8 If you enter a town and they welcome you, eat whatever is set before you. Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: Whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat what is served to you; “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.
9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you. Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
10 But if you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go into the streets and declare, But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,
11 ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off as a testimony against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near. ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off <i>in protest</i> against you; yet be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’
12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. I say to you, it will be more tolerable on that day for Sodom than for that city. 13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. “Woe to you, Chorazin! And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell. And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will be brought down to Hades! And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.
16 Whoever listens to you listens to Me; whoever rejects you rejects Me; and whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me. “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me. “The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; but the one who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.” “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name. The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. Now the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name!” The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
18 So He told them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. And He said to them, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like lightning. He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Behold, I have given you authority to walk on snakes and scorpions, and <i>authority</i> over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
21 At that time Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight. In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from <i>the</i> wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for <i>doing</i> so was well pleasing in Your sight. At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
22 All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and <i>he</i> to whom the Son will reveal <i>him</i>. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son determines to reveal <i>Him.</i>” “All things have been committed to me by my Father. 23 Then Jesus turned to the disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! And he turned him unto <i>his</i> disciples, and said privately, Blessed <i>are</i> the eyes which see the things that ye see: Turning to the disciples, He said privately, “Blessed <i>are</i> the eyes that see the things you see; Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.” For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen <i>them</i>; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard <i>them</i>. for I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things that you see, and did not see <i>them,</i> and to hear the things that you hear, and did not hear <i>them.</i>” For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
25 One day an expert in the law stood up to test Him. “Teacher, he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life? And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law? Jesus replied. “How do you read it? He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” He answered, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly, Jesus said. “Do this and you will live. And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor? But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? But wanting to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 Jesus took up this question and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. And Jesus answering said, A certain <i>man</i> went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded <i>him</i>, and departed, leaving <i>him</i> half dead. Jesus replied and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he encountered robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
31 Now by chance a priest was going down the same road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And by coincidence a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.
32 So too, when a Levite came to that spot and saw him, he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked <i>on him</i>, and passed by on the other side. 33 But when a Samaritan on a journey came upon him, he looked at him and had compassion. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 36 Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ <i>hands?</i>” “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 “The one who showed him mercy, replied the expert in the law. Then Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise. He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.” And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. And he said, “The one who showed compassion to him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
38 As they traveled along, Jesus entered a village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to His message. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. And she had a sister called Mary, who was also seated at the Lord’s feet, and was listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up <i>to Him</i> and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do the serving by myself? Then tell her to help me.” But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha, the Lord replied, “you are worried and upset about many things. But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
42 But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her. but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. but <i>only</i> one thing is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
