Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple.1Καὶ ἐξελθὼν Ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ τοῦ ἱεροῦ ἐπορεύετο καὶ προσῆλθον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπιδεῖξαι αὐτῷ τὰς οἰκοδομὰς τοῦ ἱεροῦ
But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”2 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Οὐ βλέπετε ταῦτα πάντα ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν οὐ μὴ ἀφεθῇ ὧδε λίθος ἐπὶ λίθον ὃς οὐ καταλυθήσεται
As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”3Καθημένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ ὄρους τῶν Ἐλαιῶν προσῆλθον αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ κατ’ ἰδίαν λέγοντες Εἰπὲ ἡμῖν πότε ταῦτα ἔσται καὶ τί τὸ σημεῖον τῆς σῆς παρουσίας καὶ συντελείας τοῦ αἰῶνος
And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray.4Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Βλέπετε μή τις ὑμᾶς πλανήσῃ
For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray.5πολλοὶ γὰρ ἐλεύσονται ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου λέγοντες Ἐγώ εἰμι Χριστός καὶ πολλοὺς πλανήσουσιν
And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.6μελλήσετε δὲ ἀκούειν πολέμους καὶ ἀκοὰς πολέμων ὁρᾶτε μὴ θροεῖσθε δεῖ γὰρ γενέσθαι ἀλλ’ οὔπω ἐστὶν τὸ τέλος
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.7ἐγερθήσεται γὰρ ἔθνος ἐπὶ ἔθνος καὶ βασιλεία ἐπὶ βασιλείαν καὶ ἔσονται λιμοὶ καὶ σεισμοὶ κατὰ τόπους
All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.8πάντα δὲ ταῦτα ἀρχὴ ὠδίνων
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake.9Τότε παραδώσουσιν ὑμᾶς εἰς θλῖψιν καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν ὑμᾶς καὶ ἔσεσθε μισούμενοι ὑπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐθνῶν διὰ τὸ ὄνομά μου
And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another.10καὶ τότε σκανδαλισθήσονται πολλοὶ καὶ ἀλλήλους παραδώσουσιν καὶ μισήσουσιν ἀλλήλους
And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.11καὶ πολλοὶ ψευδοπροφῆται ἐγερθήσονται καὶ πλανήσουσιν πολλούς
And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.12Καὶ διὰ τὸ πληθυνθῆναι τὴν ἀνομίαν ψυγήσεται ἀγάπη τῶν πολλῶν
But the one who endures to the end will be saved.13 δὲ ὑπομείνας εἰς τέλος οὗτος σωθήσεται
And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.14Καὶ κηρυχθήσεται τοῦτο τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ οἰκουμένῃ εἰς μαρτύριον πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ τότε ἥξει τὸ τέλος
“So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),15Ὅταν οὖν ἴδητε Τὸ βδέλυγμα τῆς ἐρημώσεως τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Δανιὴλ τοῦ προφήτου ἑστὸς ἐν τόπῳ ἁγίῳ ἀναγινώσκων νοείτω
then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.16τότε οἱ ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ φευγέτωσαν εἰς τὰ ὄρη
Let the one who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house,17 ἐπὶ τοῦ δώματος μὴ καταβάτω ἆραι τὰ ἐκ τῆς οἰκίας αὐτοῦ
and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak.18καὶ ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ μὴ ἐπιστρεψάτω ὀπίσω ἆραι τὸ ἱμάτιον αὐτοῦ
And alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days!19Οὐαὶ δὲ ταῖς ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσαις καὶ ταῖς θηλαζούσαις ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις
Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath.20προσεύχεσθε δὲ ἵνα μὴ γένηται φυγὴ ὑμῶν χειμῶνος μηδὲ σαββάτῳ
For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.21ἔσται γὰρ τότε θλῖψις μεγάλη οἵα οὐ γέγονεν ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς κόσμου ἕως τοῦ νῦν οὐδ’ οὐ μὴ γένηται
And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.22καὶ εἰ μὴ ἐκολοβώθησαν αἱ ἡμέραι ἐκεῖναι οὐκ ἂν ἐσώθη πᾶσα σάρξ διὰ δὲ τοὺς ἐκλεκτοὺς κολοβωθήσονται αἱ ἡμέραι ἐκεῖναι
Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.23Τότε ἐάν τις ὑμῖν εἴπῃ Ἰδοὺ ὧδε Χριστός Ὧδε μὴ πιστεύσητε
For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.24ἐγερθήσονται γὰρ ψευδόχριστοι καὶ ψευδοπροφῆται καὶ δώσουσιν σημεῖα μεγάλα καὶ τέρατα ὥστε πλανῆσαι εἰ δυνατὸν καὶ τοὺς ἐκλεκτούς
See, I have told you beforehand.25ἰδοὺ προείρηκα ὑμῖν
So, if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.26Ἐὰν οὖν εἴπωσιν ὑμῖν Ἰδοὺ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἐστίν μὴ ἐξέλθητε Ἰδοὺ ἐν τοῖς ταμείοις μὴ πιστεύσητε
For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.27ὥσπερ γὰρ ἀστραπὴ ἐξέρχεται ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν καὶ φαίνεται ἕως δυσμῶν οὕτως ἔσται παρουσία τοῦ Υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.28ὅπου ἐὰν τὸ πτῶμα ἐκεῖ συναχθήσονται οἱ ἀετοί
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.29Εὐθέως δὲ μετὰ τὴν θλῖψιν τῶν ἡμερῶν ἐκείνων ἥλιος σκοτισθήσεται Καὶ σελήνη οὐ δώσει τὸ φέγγος αὐτῆς Καὶ οἱ ἀστέρες πεσοῦνται ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ Καὶ αἱ δυνάμεις τῶν οὐρανῶν σαλευθήσονται
Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.30Καὶ τότε φανήσεται τὸ σημεῖον τοῦ Υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐν ‹τῷ› οὐρανῷ καὶ τότε κόψονται πᾶσαι αἱ φυλαὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ὄψονται τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐρχόμενον ἐπὶ τῶν νεφελῶν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ μετὰ δυνάμεως καὶ δόξης πολλῆς
And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.31καὶ ἀποστελεῖ τοὺς ἀγγέλους αὐτοῦ μετὰ σάλπιγγος μεγάλης καὶ ἐπισυνάξουσιν τοὺς ἐκλεκτοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῶν τεσσάρων ἀνέμων ἀπ’ ἄκρων οὐρανῶν ἕως ‹τῶν› ἄκρων αὐτῶν
“From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.32Ἀπὸ δὲ τῆς συκῆς μάθετε τὴν παραβολήν ὅταν ἤδη κλάδος αὐτῆς γένηται ἁπαλὸς καὶ τὰ φύλλα ἐκφύῃ γινώσκετε ὅτι ἐγγὺς τὸ θέρος
So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates.33οὕτως καὶ ὑμεῖς ὅταν ἴδητε πάντα ταῦτα γινώσκετε ὅτι ἐγγύς ἐστιν ἐπὶ θύραις
Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.34ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐ μὴ παρέλθῃ γενεὰ αὕτη ἕως ἂν πάντα ταῦτα γένηται
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.35 οὐρανὸς καὶ γῆ παρελεύσεται οἱ δὲ λόγοι μου οὐ μὴ παρέλθωσιν
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.36Περὶ δὲ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης καὶ ὥρας οὐδεὶς οἶδεν οὐδὲ οἱ ἄγγελοι τῶν οὐρανῶν οὐδὲ Υἱός εἰ μὴ Πατὴρ μόνος
For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.37ὥσπερ γὰρ αἱ ἡμέραι τοῦ Νῶε οὕτως ἔσται παρουσία τοῦ Υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark,38ὡς γὰρ ἦσαν ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις ταῖς πρὸ τοῦ κατακλυσμοῦ τρώγοντες καὶ πίνοντες γαμοῦντες καὶ γαμίζοντες ἄχρι ἧς ἡμέρας εἰσῆλθεν Νῶε εἰς τὴν κιβωτόν
and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.39καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν ἕως ἦλθεν κατακλυσμὸς καὶ ἦρεν ἅπαντας οὕτως ἔσται καὶ παρουσία τοῦ Υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left.40τότε ἔσονται δύο ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ εἷς παραλαμβάνεται καὶ εἷς ἀφίεται
Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.41δύο ἀλήθουσαι ἐν τῷ μύλῳ μία παραλαμβάνεται καὶ μία ἀφίεται
Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.42Γρηγορεῖτε οὖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε ποίᾳ ἡμέρᾳ κύριος ὑμῶν ἔρχεται
But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.43ἐκεῖνο δὲ γινώσκετε ὅτι εἰ ᾔδει οἰκοδεσπότης ποίᾳ φυλακῇ κλέπτης ἔρχεται ἐγρηγόρησεν ἂν καὶ οὐκ ἂν εἴασεν διορυχθῆναι τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ
Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.44διὰ τοῦτο καὶ ὑμεῖς γίνεσθε ἕτοιμοι ὅτι οὐ δοκεῖτε ὥρᾳ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἔρχεται
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time?45Τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν πιστὸς δοῦλος καὶ φρόνιμος ὃν κατέστησεν κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς οἰκετείας αὐτοῦ τοῦ δοῦναι αὐτοῖς τὴν τροφὴν ἐν καιρῷ
Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.46μακάριος δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος ὃν ἐλθὼν κύριος αὐτοῦ εὑρήσει οὕτως ποιοῦντα
Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.47ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐπὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν αὐτοῦ καταστήσει αὐτόν
But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed,’48Ἐὰν δὲ εἴπῃ κακὸς δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ Χρονίζει μου κύριος
and begins to beat his fellow servants and eats and drinks with drunkards,49καὶ ἄρξηται τύπτειν τοὺς συνδούλους αὐτοῦ ἐσθίῃ δὲ καὶ πίνῃ μετὰ τῶν μεθυόντων
the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know50ἥξει κύριος τοῦ δούλου ἐκείνου ἐν ἡμέρᾳ οὐ προσδοκᾷ καὶ ἐν ὥρᾳ οὐ γινώσκει
and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.51καὶ διχοτομήσει αὐτὸν καὶ τὸ μέρος αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ὑποκριτῶν θήσει ἐκεῖ ἔσται κλαυθμὸς καὶ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων
