International Standard VersionEnglish Standard Version
I will sing forever about the gracious love of the LORD; from generation to generation I will declare your faithfulness with my mouth.1I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
I will declare that your gracious love was established forever; in the heavens itself, you have established your faithfulness.2For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.”
I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise to David, my servant.3You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant:
"I will establish your dynasty forever, and I will lift up one who will build your throne from generation to generation." Interlude4‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Selah
Even the heavens praise your awesome deeds, LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones.5Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones!
For who in the skies compares to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the divine beings?6For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD,
God is feared in the council of the holy ones, revered by all those around him.7a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him?
LORD God of the Heavenly Armies, who is as mighty as you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you.8O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you?
You rule over the majestic sea; when its waves surge, you calm them.9You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.
You crushed the proud one to death; with your powerful arm you scattered your enemies.10You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
Heaven and the earth belong to you, the world and everything it contains— you established them.11The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.
The north and south—you created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.12The north and the south, you have created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.
Your arm is strong; your hand is mighty; indeed, your right hand is victorious. 13You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand.
Righteousness and justice make up the foundation of your throne; gracious love and truth meet before you.14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
How happy are the people who can worship joyfully! LORD, they walk in the light of your presence.15Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face,
In your name they rejoice all day long; they exult in your justice. 16who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted.
For you are their strength's grandeur; by your favor you exalted our power. 17For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.
Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, and our king to the Holy One of Israel.18For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
You spoke to your faithful ones through a vision: "I will set a helper over a warrior. I will raise up a chosen one from the people.19Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said: “I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.
I have found my servant David; I have anointed him with my sacred oil,20I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him,
with whom my power will be firmly established; for my arm will strengthen him.21so that my hand shall be established with him; my arm also shall strengthen him.
No enemy will deceive him; no wicked person will afflict him.22The enemy shall not outwit him; the wicked shall not humble him.
I will crush his enemies before him and strike those who hate him.23I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him.
My faithfulness and gracious love will be with him, and in my name his power will be exalted.24My faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
I will place his hand over the sea, and his right hand over the rivers.25I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers.
He will announce to me 'You are my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.'26He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’
"Indeed, I myself made him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.27And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
I will show my gracious love toward him forever, since my covenant is securely established with him.28My steadfast love I will keep for him forever, and my covenant will stand firm for him.
I will establish his dynasty forever, and his throne as long as heaven endures. 29I will establish his offspring forever and his throne as the days of the heavens.
"But if his sons abandon my laws and do not follow my ordinances,30If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules,
if they profane my statutes; and do not keep my commands,31if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments,
then I will punish their disobedience with a rod and their iniquity with lashes.32then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes,
But I will not cut off my gracious love from him, and I will not stop being faithful.33but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness.
I will not dishonor my covenant, because I will not change what I have spoken. 34I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
I have sworn by my holiness once for all: I will not lie to David.35Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David.
His dynasty will last forever and his throne will be like the sun before me.36His offspring shall endure forever, his throne as long as the sun before me.
It will be established forever like the moon, a faithful witness in the sky." Interlude37Like the moon it shall be established forever, a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah
But you have spurned, rejected, and became angry with your anointed one.38But now you have cast off and rejected; you are full of wrath against your anointed.
You have dishonored the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown on the ground.39You have renounced the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown in the dust.
You have broken through all his walls; you have laid his fortresses in ruin.40You have breached all his walls; you have laid his strongholds in ruins.
All who pass by on their way plunder him; he has become a reproach to his neighbors.41All who pass by plunder him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.
You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; you have caused all of his enemies to rejoice.42You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.
Moreover, you have turned back the edge of his sword and did not support him in battle.43You have also turned back the edge of his sword, and you have not made him stand in battle.
You have caused his splendor to cease and cast down his throne to the ground.44You have made his splendor to cease and cast his throne to the ground.
You have caused the days of his youth to be cut short; you have covered him with shame. Interlude45You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah
How long, LORD, will you hide yourself? Forever? Will your anger continuously burn like fire?46How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?
Remember how short my lifetime is! How powerless have you created all human beings! 47Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man!
What valiant man can live and not see death? Who can deliver himself from the power of Sheol. Interlude48What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah
Where is your gracious love of old, Lord, that in your faithfulness you promised to David?49Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, which by your faithfulness you swore to David?
Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servant! I carry inside me all the insults of many people,50Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked, and how I bear in my heart the insults of all the many nations,
when your enemies reproached you, LORD, when they reproached the footsteps of your anointed.51with which your enemies mock, O LORD, with which they mock the footsteps of your anointed.
Blessed is the LORD forever! Amen and amen!52Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
