1Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess,1Ὅθεν ἀδελφοὶ ἅγιοι κλήσεως ἐπουρανίου μέτοχοι κατανοήσατε τὸν Ἀπόστολον καὶ Ἀρχιερέα τῆς ὁμολογίας ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦν
2who is faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses was also in God's house.2πιστὸν ὄντα τῷ ποιήσαντι αὐτὸν ὡς καὶ Μωϋσῆς ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ
3For he has come to deserve greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself!3Πλείονος γὰρ οὗτος δόξης παρὰ Μωϋσῆν ἠξίωται καθ’ ὅσον πλείονα τιμὴν ἔχει τοῦ οἴκου ὁ κατασκευάσας αὐτόν
4For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.4πᾶς γὰρ οἶκος κατασκευάζεται ὑπό τινος ὁ δὲ πάντα κατασκευάσας Θεός
5Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken.5Καὶ Μωϋσῆς μὲν πιστὸς ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ ὡς θεράπων εἰς μαρτύριον τῶν λαληθησομένων
6But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. We are of his house, if in fact we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope we take pride in. 6Χριστὸς δὲ ὡς υἱὸς ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ οὗ οἶκός ἐσμεν ἡμεῖς ἐὰν τὴν παρρησίαν καὶ τὸ καύχημα τῆς ἐλπίδος 〈μέχρι τέλους βεβαίαν〉 κατάσχωμεν
7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! 7Διό καθὼς λέγει τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε
8"Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness. 8μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ κατὰ τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ πειρασμοῦ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ
9"There your fathers tested me and tried me, and they saw my works for forty years. 9οὗ ἐπείρασαν οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν ἐν δοκιμασίᾳ καὶ εἶδον τὰ ἔργα μου τεσσεράκοντα ἔτη
10"Therefore, I became provoked at that generation and said, 'Their hearts are always wandering and they have not known my ways.' 10διὸ προσώχθισα τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ καὶ εἶπον Ἀεὶ πλανῶνται τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν τὰς ὁδούς μου
11"As I swore in my anger, 'They will never enter my rest!'" 11ὡς ὤμοσα ἐν τῇ ὀργῇ μου Εἰ εἰσελεύσονται εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν μου
12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God.12Βλέπετε ἀδελφοί μή‿ ποτε ἔσται ἔν τινι ὑμῶν καρδία πονηρὰ ἀπιστίας ἐν τῷ ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ζῶντος
13But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called "Today," that none of you may become hardened by sin's deception.13ἀλλὰ παρακαλεῖτε ἑαυτοὺς καθ’ ἑκάστην ἡμέραν ἄχρις οὗ τὸ Σήμερον καλεῖται ἵνα μὴ σκληρυνθῇ τις ἐξ ὑμῶν ἀπάτῃ τῆς ἁμαρτίας
14For we have become partners with Christ, if in fact we hold our initial confidence firm until the end.14Μέτοχοι γὰρ τοῦ Χριστοῦ γεγόναμεν ἐάνπερ τὴν ἀρχὴν τῆς ὑποστάσεως μέχρι τέλους βεβαίαν κατάσχωμεν
15As it says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."15ἐν τῷ λέγεσθαι Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε Μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ
16For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses' leadership?16Τίνες γὰρ ἀκούσαντες παρεπίκραναν ἀλλ’ οὐ πάντες οἱ ἐξελθόντες ἐξ Αἰγύπτου διὰ Μωϋσέως
17And against whom was God provoked for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness?17τίσιν δὲ προσώχθισεν τεσσεράκοντα ἔτη οὐχὶ τοῖς ἁμαρτήσασιν ὧν τὰ κῶλα ἔπεσεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ
18And to whom did he swear they would never enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient?18τίσιν δὲ ὤμοσεν μὴ εἰσελεύσεσθαι εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν αὐτοῦ εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἀπειθήσασιν
19So we see that they could not enter because of unbelief. 19καὶ βλέπομεν ὅτι οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν εἰσελθεῖν δι’ ἀπιστίαν
