"'You must not make for yourselves idols, so you must not set up for yourselves a carved image or a pillar, and you must not place a sculpted stone in your land to bow down before it, for I am the LORD your God.1Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.
You must keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary. I am the LORD. 2Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
"'If you walk in my statutes and are sure to obey my commandments,3If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
I will give you your rains in their time so that the land will give its yield and the trees of the field will produce their fruit.4Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
Threshing season will extend for you until the season for harvesting grapes, and the season for harvesting grapes will extend until sowing season, so you will eat your bread until you are satisfied, and you will live securely in your land.5And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
I will grant peace in the land so that you will lie down to sleep without anyone terrifying you. I will remove harmful animals from the land, and no sword of war will pass through your land.6And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.
You will pursue your enemies and they will fall before you by the sword.7And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.
Five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you will pursue ten thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.8And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.
I will turn to you, make you fruitful, multiply you, and maintain my covenant with you.9For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.
You will still be eating stored produce from the previous year and will have to clean out what is stored from the previous year to make room for new. 10And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.
"'I will put my tabernacle in your midst and I will not abhor you.11And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.
I will walk among you, and I will be your God and you will be my people.12And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
I am the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from being their slaves, and I broke the bars of your yoke and caused you to walk upright. 13I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
"'If, however, you do not obey me and keep all these commandments--14But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;
if you reject my statutes and abhor my regulations so that you do not keep all my commandments and you break my covenant--15And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:
I for my part will do this to you: I will inflict horror on you, consumption and fever, which diminish eyesight and drain away the vitality of life. You will sow your seed in vain because your enemies will eat it.16I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
I will set my face against you. You will be struck down before your enemies, those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee when there is no one pursuing you. 17And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.
"'If, in spite of all these things, you do not obey me, I will discipline you seven times more on account of your sins.18And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
I will break your strong pride and make your sky like iron and your land like bronze.19And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:
Your strength will be used up in vain, your land will not give its yield, and the trees of the land will not produce their fruit. 20And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.
"'If you walk in hostility against me and are not willing to obey me, I will increase your affliction seven times according to your sins.21And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.
I will send the wild animals against you and they will bereave you of your children, annihilate your cattle, and diminish your population so that your roads will become deserted. 22I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.
"'If in spite of these things you do not allow yourselves to be disciplined and you walk in hostility against me,23And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;
I myself will also walk in hostility against you and strike you seven times on account of your sins.24Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
I will bring on you an avenging sword, a covenant vengeance. Although you will gather together into your cities, I will send pestilence among you and you will be given into enemy hands.25And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
When I break off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven; they will ration your bread by weight, and you will eat and not be satisfied. 26And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.
"'If in spite of this you do not obey me but walk in hostility against me,27And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;
I will walk in hostile rage against you and I myself will also discipline you seven times on account of your sins.28Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.
You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.29And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.
I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars, and I will stack your dead bodies on top of the lifeless bodies of your idols. I will abhor you.30And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.
I will lay your cities waste and make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will refuse to smell your soothing aromas.31And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.
I myself will make the land desolate and your enemies who live in it will be appalled.32And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.
I will scatter you among the nations and unsheathe the sword after you, so your land will become desolate and your cities will become a waste. 33And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.
"'Then the land will make up for its Sabbaths all the days it lies desolate while you are in the land of your enemies; then the land will rest and make up its Sabbaths.34Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.
All the days of the desolation it will have the rest it did not have on your Sabbaths when you lived on it. 35As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.
"'As for the ones who remain among you, I will bring despair into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a blowing leaf will pursue them, and they will flee as one who flees the sword and fall down even though there is no pursuer.36And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.
They will stumble over each other as those who flee before a sword, though there is no pursuer, and there will be no one to take a stand for you before your enemies.37And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will consume you. 38And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.
"'As for the ones who remain among you, they will rot away because of their iniquity in the lands of your enemies, and they will also rot away because of their ancestors' iniquities which are with them.39And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.
However, when they confess their iniquity and their ancestors' iniquity which they committed by trespassing against me, by which they also walked in hostility against me40If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;
(and I myself will walk in hostility against them and bring them into the land of their enemies), and then their uncircumcised hearts become humbled and they make up for their iniquity,41And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:
I will remember my covenant with Jacob and also my covenant with Isaac and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.42Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.
The land will be abandoned by them in order that it may make up for its Sabbaths while it is made desolate without them, and they will make up for their iniquity because they have rejected my regulations and have abhorred my statutes.43The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.
In spite of this, however, when they are in the land of their enemies I will not reject them and abhor them to make a complete end of them, to break my covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God.44And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.
I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out from the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the LORD.'" 45But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.
These are the statutes, regulations, and instructions which the LORD established between himself and the Israelites at Mount Sinai through Moses. 46These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
