“Judge not, that you be not judged.1Μὴ κρίνετε ἵνα μὴ κριθῆτε
For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.2ἐν γὰρ κρίματι κρίνετε κριθήσεσθε καὶ ἐν μέτρῳ μετρεῖτε μετρηθήσεται ὑμῖν
And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?3Τί δὲ βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου τὴν δὲ ἐν τῷ σῷ ὀφθαλμῷ δοκὸν οὐ κατανοεῖς
Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?4 πῶς ἐρεῖς τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου Ἄφες ἐκβάλω τὸ κάρφος ἐκ τοῦ ὀφθαλμοῦ σου καὶ ἰδοὺ δοκὸς ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ σοῦ
Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.5ὑποκριτά ἔκβαλε πρῶτον ἐκ τοῦ ὀφθαλμοῦ σοῦ τὴν δοκόν καὶ τότε διαβλέψεις ἐκβαλεῖν τὸ κάρφος ἐκ τοῦ ὀφθαλμοῦ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου
“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.6Μὴ δῶτε τὸ ἅγιον τοῖς κυσίν μηδὲ βάλητε τοὺς μαργαρίτας ὑμῶν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν χοίρων μή‿ ποτε καταπατήσουσιν αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς ποσὶν αὐτῶν καὶ στραφέντες ῥήξωσιν ὑμᾶς
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.7Αἰτεῖτε καὶ δοθήσεται ὑμῖν ζητεῖτε καὶ εὑρήσετε κρούετε καὶ ἀνοιγήσεται ὑμῖν
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.8πᾶς γὰρ αἰτῶν λαμβάνει καὶ ζητῶν εὑρίσκει καὶ τῷ κρούοντι ἀνοιγήσεται
Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?9 τίς ἐστιν ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνθρωπος ὃν αἰτήσει υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἄρτον μὴ λίθον ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ
Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?10 καὶ ἰχθὺν αἰτήσει μὴ ὄφιν ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!11εἰ οὖν ὑμεῖς πονηροὶ ὄντες οἴδατε δόματα ἀγαθὰ διδόναι τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν πόσῳ μᾶλλον Πατὴρ ὑμῶν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς δώσει ἀγαθὰ τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν αὐτόν
Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.12Πάντα οὖν ὅσα ἐὰν θέλητε ἵνα ποιῶσιν ὑμῖν οἱ ἄνθρωποι οὕτως καὶ ὑμεῖς ποιεῖτε αὐτοῖς οὗτος γάρ ἐστιν νόμος καὶ οἱ προφῆται
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.13Εἰσέλθατε διὰ τῆς στενῆς πύλης ὅτι πλατεῖα πύλη καὶ εὐρύχωρος ὁδὸς ἀπάγουσα εἰς τὴν ἀπώλειαν καὶ πολλοί εἰσιν οἱ εἰσερχόμενοι δι’ αὐτῆς
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.14ὅτι στενὴ πύλη καὶ τεθλιμμένη ὁδὸς ἀπάγουσα εἰς τὴν ζωήν καὶ ὀλίγοι εἰσὶν οἱ εὑρίσκοντες αὐτήν
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.15Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν ψευδοπροφητῶν οἵτινες ἔρχονται πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν ἐνδύμασιν προβάτων ἔσωθεν δέ εἰσιν λύκοι ἅρπαγες
You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?16ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν αὐτῶν ἐπιγνώσεσθε αὐτούς μήτι συλλέγουσιν ἀπὸ ἀκανθῶν σταφυλὰς ἀπὸ τριβόλων σῦκα
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.17οὕτως πᾶν δένδρον ἀγαθὸν καρποὺς καλοὺς ποιεῖ τὸ δὲ σαπρὸν δένδρον καρποὺς πονηροὺς ποιεῖ
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.18οὐ δύναται δένδρον ἀγαθὸν καρποὺς πονηροὺς ποιεῖν* οὐδὲ δένδρον σαπρὸν καρποὺς καλοὺς ποιεῖν*
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.19πᾶν δένδρον μὴ ποιοῦν καρπὸν καλὸν ἐκκόπτεται καὶ εἰς πῦρ βάλλεται
Therefore by their fruits you will know them.20ἄρα¦γε ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν αὐτῶν ἐπιγνώσεσθε αὐτούς
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.21Οὐ πᾶς λέγων μοι Κύριε Κύριε εἰσελεύσεται εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀλλ’ ποιῶν τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Πατρός μου τοῦ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς
Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’22πολλοὶ ἐροῦσίν μοι ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ Κύριε Κύριε οὐ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι ἐπροφητεύσαμεν καὶ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι δαιμόνια ἐξεβάλομεν καὶ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι δυνάμεις πολλὰς ἐποιήσαμεν
And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’23καὶ τότε ὁμολογήσω αὐτοῖς ὅτι Οὐδέποτε ἔγνων ὑμᾶς ἀποχωρεῖτε ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ οἱ ἐργαζόμενοι τὴν ἀνομίαν
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:24Πᾶς οὖν ὅστις ἀκούει μου τοὺς λόγους τούτους καὶ ποιεῖ αὐτούς ὁμοιωθήσεται ἀνδρὶ φρονίμῳ ὅστις ᾠκοδόμησεν αὐτοῦ τὴν οἰκίαν ἐπὶ τὴν πέτραν
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.25καὶ κατέβη βροχὴ καὶ ἦλθον οἱ ποταμοὶ καὶ ἔπνευσαν οἱ ἄνεμοι καὶ προσέπεσαν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ οὐκ ἔπεσεν τεθεμελίωτο γὰρ ἐπὶ τὴν πέτραν
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:26καὶ πᾶς ἀκούων μου τοὺς λόγους τούτους καὶ μὴ ποιῶν αὐτοὺς ὁμοιωθήσεται ἀνδρὶ μωρῷ ὅστις ᾠκοδόμησεν αὐτοῦ τὴν οἰκίαν ἐπὶ τὴν ἄμμον
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”27καὶ κατέβη βροχὴ καὶ ἦλθον οἱ ποταμοὶ καὶ ἔπνευσαν οἱ ἄνεμοι καὶ προσέκοψαν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἔπεσεν καὶ ἦν πτῶσις αὐτῆς μεγάλη
And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching,28Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν Ἰησοῦς τοὺς λόγους τούτους ἐξεπλήσσοντο οἱ ὄχλοι ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ
for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.29ἦν γὰρ διδάσκων αὐτοὺς ὡς ἐξουσίαν ἔχων καὶ οὐχ ὡς οἱ γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν
