Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.1And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.2And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature.3And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way.4And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”5And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.6And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.”7And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”8And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;9And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”10For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately.11And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.12He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’13And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us.’14But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
“And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.15And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
Then came the first, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned ten minas.’16Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’17And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
And the second came, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned five minas.’18And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
Likewise he said to him, ‘You also be over five cities.’19And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
“Then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief.20And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:
For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’21For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.
And he said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow.22And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:
Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’23Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?
“And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.’24And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.
(But they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas.’)25(And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)
‘For I say to you, that to everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.26For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
But bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.’ ”27But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
When He had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.28And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples,29And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
saying, “Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here.30Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.
And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you loosing it?’ thus you shall say to him, ‘Because the Lord has need of it.’ ”31And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.
So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them.32And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.
But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, “Why are you loosing the colt?”33And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
And they said, “The Lord has need of him.”34And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him.35And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road.36And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen,37And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
saying: “ ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”38Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”39And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”40And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,41And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.42Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,43For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”44And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it,45And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;
saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”46Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.
And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him,47And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,
and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.48And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
