And He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.”1And he said to them, "I tell you the truth, there are some standing here who will not experience death before they see the kingdom of God come with power."
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.2Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John and led them alone up a high mountain privately. And he was transfigured before them,
His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.3and his clothes became radiantly white, more so than any launderer in the world could bleach them.
And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.4Then Elijah appeared before them along with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—5So Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three shelters--one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.6(For they were afraid, and he did not know what to say.)
And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came from the cloud, "This is my one dear Son. Listen to him!"
Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.8Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more except Jesus.
Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.9As they were coming down from the mountain, he gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.10They kept this statement to themselves, discussing what this rising from the dead meant.
And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”11Then they asked him, "Why do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?"
Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?12He said to them, "Elijah does indeed come first, and restores all things. And why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised?
But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”13But I tell you that Elijah has certainly come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him."
And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them.14When they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and experts in the law arguing with them.
Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him.15When the whole crowd saw him, they were amazed and ran at once and greeted him.
And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”16He asked them, "What are you arguing about with them?"
Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit.17A member of the crowd said to him, "Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that makes him mute.
And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”18Whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to cast it out, but they were not able to do so."
He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”19He answered them, "You unbelieving generation! How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? Bring him to me."
Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.20So they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell on the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.21Jesus asked his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" And he said, "From childhood.
And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”22It has often thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have compassion on us and help us."
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”23Then Jesus said to him, "'If you are able?' All things are possible for the one who believes."
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”24Immediately the father of the boy cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!"
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!”25Now when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."
Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”26It shrieked, threw him into terrible convulsions, and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, "He is dead!"
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.27But Jesus gently took his hand and raised him to his feet, and he stood up.
And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”28Then, after he went into the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we cast it out?"
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”29He told them, "This kind can come out only by prayer."
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it.30They went out from there and passed through Galilee. But Jesus did not want anyone to know,
For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”31for he was teaching his disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man will be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise."
But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.32But they did not understand this statement and were afraid to ask him.
Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?”33Then they came to Capernaum. After Jesus was inside the house he asked them, "What were you discussing on the way?"
But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.34But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.
And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”35After he sat down, he called the twelve and said to them, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all."
Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them,36He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,
“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”37"Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me."
Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”38John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he was not following us."
But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me.39But Jesus said, "Do not stop him, because no one who does a miracle in my name will be able soon afterward to say anything bad about me.
For he who is not against us is on our side.40For whoever is not against us is for us.
For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.41For I tell you the truth, whoever gives you a cup of water because you bear Christ's name will never lose his reward.
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.42"If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a huge millstone tied around his neck and to be thrown into the sea.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—43If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter into life crippled than to have two hands and go into hell, to the unquenchable fire.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’44
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—45If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’46
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—47If your eye causes you to sin, tear it out! It is better to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’48where their worm never dies and the fire is never quenched.
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.49Everyone will be salted with fire.
Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”50Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other."
