And He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.”1Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἰσίν τινες ὧδε τῶν ἑστηκότων οἵτινες οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐληλυθυῖαν ἐν δυνάμει
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.2Καὶ μετὰ ἡμέρας ἓξ παραλαμβάνει Ἰησοῦς τὸν Πέτρον καὶ τὸν Ἰάκωβον καὶ [τὸν] Ἰωάννην καὶ ἀναφέρει αὐτοὺς εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν κατ’ ἰδίαν μόνους καὶ μετεμορφώθη ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν
His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.3καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο στίλβοντα λευκὰ λίαν οἷα γναφεὺς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς οὐ δύναται οὕτως λευκᾶναι
And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.4καὶ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς Ἠλίας σὺν Μωϋσεῖ καὶ ἦσαν συλλαλοῦντες* τῷ Ἰησοῦ
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—5Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς Πέτρος λέγει τῷ Ἰησοῦ Ῥαββί καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι καὶ ποιήσωμεν τρεῖς σκηνάς σοὶ μίαν καὶ Μωϋσεῖ μίαν καὶ Ἠλίᾳ μίαν
because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.6οὐ γὰρ ᾔδει τί ἀποκριθῇ ἔκφοβοι γὰρ ἐγένοντο
And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”7Καὶ ἐγένετο νεφέλη ἐπισκιάζουσα αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐγένετο φωνὴ ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης Οὗτός ἐστιν Υἱός μου ἀγαπητός ἀκούετε αὐτοῦ
Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.8καὶ ἐξάπινα περιβλεψάμενοι οὐκέτι οὐδένα εἶδον ἀλλὰ τὸν Ἰησοῦν μόνον μεθ’ ἑαυτῶν
Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.9Καὶ καταβαινόντων αὐτῶν ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ εἶδον διηγήσωνται εἰ μὴ ὅταν Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῇ
So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.10καὶ τὸν λόγον ἐκράτησαν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς συζητοῦντες τί ἐστιν τὸ ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῆναι
And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”11καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες Ὅτι Λέγουσιν οἱ γραμματεῖς ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον
Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?12 δὲ ἔφη αὐτοῖς Ἠλίας μὲν ἐλθὼν πρῶτον ἀποκαθιστάνει πάντα καὶ πῶς γέγραπται ἐπὶ τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἵνα πολλὰ πάθῃ καὶ ἐξουδενηθῇ
But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”13ἀλλὰ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι καὶ Ἠλίας ἐλήλυθεν καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτῷ ὅσα ἤθελον καθὼς γέγραπται ἐπ’ αὐτόν
And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them.14Καὶ ἐλθόντες πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς εἶδον ὄχλον πολὺν περὶ αὐτοὺς καὶ γραμματεῖς συζητοῦντας πρὸς αὐτούς
Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him.15καὶ εὐθὺς πᾶς ὄχλος ἰδόντες αὐτὸν ἐξεθαμβήθησαν καὶ προστρέχοντες ἠσπάζοντο αὐτόν
And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”16Καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτούς Τί συζητεῖτε πρὸς αὑτούς
Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit.17Καὶ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ εἷς ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου Διδάσκαλε ἤνεγκα τὸν υἱόν μου πρὸς σέ ἔχοντα πνεῦμα ἄλαλον
And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”18καὶ ὅπου ἐὰν αὐτὸν καταλάβῃ ῥήσσει αὐτόν καὶ ἀφρίζει καὶ τρίζει τοὺς ὀδόντας καὶ ξηραίνεται καὶ εἶπα τοῖς μαθηταῖς σου ἵνα αὐτὸ ἐκβάλωσιν καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν
He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”19 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτοῖς λέγει γενεὰ ἄπιστος ἕως πότε πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔσομαι ἕως πότε ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν φέρετε αὐτὸν πρός με
Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.20Καὶ ἤνεγκαν αὐτὸν πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν τὸ πνεῦμα εὐθὺς συνεσπάραξεν αὐτόν καὶ πεσὼν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐκυλίετο ἀφρίζων
So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.21Καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ Πόσος χρόνος ἐστὶν ὡς τοῦτο γέγονεν αὐτῷ δὲ εἶπεν Ἐκ παιδιόθεν
And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”22καὶ πολλάκις καὶ εἰς πῦρ αὐτὸν ἔβαλεν καὶ εἰς ὕδατα ἵνα ἀπολέσῃ αὐτόν ἀλλ’ εἴ τι δύνῃ βοήθησον ἡμῖν σπλαγχνισθεὶς ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”23 δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τὸ Εἰ δύνῃ πάντα δυνατὰ τῷ πιστεύοντι
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”24Εὐθὺς κράξας πατὴρ τοῦ παιδίου ἔλεγεν Πιστεύω βοήθει μου τῇ ἀπιστίᾳ
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!”25Ἰδὼν δὲ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι ἐπισυντρέχει ὄχλος ἐπετίμησεν τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ λέγων αὐτῷ Τὸ ἄλαλον καὶ κωφὸν πνεῦμα ἐγὼ ἐπιτάσσω σοι ἔξελθε ἐξ αὐτοῦ καὶ μηκέτι εἰσέλθῃς εἰς αὐτόν
Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”26Καὶ κράξας καὶ πολλὰ σπαράξας ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἐγένετο ὡσεὶ νεκρὸς ὥστε τοὺς πολλοὺς λέγειν ὅτι ἀπέθανεν
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.27 δὲ Ἰησοῦς κρατήσας τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ ἤγειρεν αὐτόν καὶ ἀνέστη
And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”28Καὶ εἰσελθόντος αὐτοῦ εἰς οἶκον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ κατ’ ἰδίαν ἐπηρώτων αὐτόν Ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”29Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Τοῦτο τὸ γένος ἐν οὐδενὶ δύναται ἐξελθεῖν εἰ μὴ ἐν προσευχῇ
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it.30Κἀκεῖθεν ἐξελθόντες παρεπορεύοντο διὰ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν ἵνα τις γνοῖ
For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”31ἐδίδασκεν γὰρ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν καὶ ἀποκτανθεὶς μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἀναστήσεται
But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.32οἱ δὲ ἠγνόουν τὸ ῥῆμα καὶ ἐφοβοῦντο αὐτὸν ἐπερωτῆσαι
Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?”33Καὶ ἦλθον εἰς Καφαρναούμ Καὶ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ γενόμενος ἐπηρώτα αὐτούς Τί ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ διελογίζεσθε
But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.34οἱ δὲ ἐσιώπων πρὸς ἀλλήλους γὰρ διελέχθησαν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ τίς μείζων
And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”35Καὶ καθίσας ἐφώνησεν τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Εἴ τις θέλει πρῶτος εἶναι ἔσται πάντων ἔσχατος καὶ πάντων διάκονος
Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them,36Καὶ λαβὼν παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐναγκαλισάμενος αὐτὸ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς
“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”37Ὃς ἂν ἓν τῶν τοιούτων παιδίων δέξηται ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐμὲ δέχεται καὶ ὃς ἂν ἐμὲ δέχηται οὐκ ἐμὲ δέχεται ἀλλὰ τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με
Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”38Ἔφη αὐτῷ Ἰωάννης Διδάσκαλε εἴδομέν τινα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐκβάλλοντα δαιμόνια 〈ὃς οὐκ ἀκολουθεῖ ἡμῖν〉 καὶ ἐκωλύομεν αὐτόν ὅτι οὐκ ἠκολούθει ἡμῖν
But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me.39 δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν Μὴ κωλύετε αὐτόν οὐδεὶς γάρ ἐστιν ὃς ποιήσει δύναμιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου καὶ δυνήσεται ταχὺ κακολογῆσαί με
For he who is not against us is on our side.40ὃς γὰρ οὐκ ἔστιν καθ’ ἡμῶν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν ἐστιν
For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.41Ὃς γὰρ ἂν ποτίσῃ ὑμᾶς ποτήριον ὕδατος ἐν ὀνόματι ὅτι Χριστοῦ ἐστε ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐ μὴ ἀπολέσῃ τὸν μισθὸν αὐτοῦ
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.42Καὶ ὃς ἂν σκανδαλίσῃ ἕνα τῶν μικρῶν τούτων τῶν πιστευόντων ‹εἰς ἐμέ› καλόν ἐστιν αὐτῷ μᾶλλον εἰ περίκειται μύλος ὀνικὸς περὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ βέβληται εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—43Καὶ ἐὰν σκανδαλίζῃ* σε χείρ σου ἀπόκοψον αὐτήν καλόν ἐστίν σε κυλλὸν εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν τὰς δύο χεῖρας ἔχοντα ἀπελθεῖν εἰς τὴν γέενναν εἰς τὸ πῦρ τὸ ἄσβεστον
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’44⧼ὅπου σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται⧽
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—45καὶ ἐὰν πούς σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε ἀπόκοψον αὐτόν καλόν ἐστίν σε εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν χωλὸν τοὺς δύο πόδας ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς τὴν γέενναν ⧼εἰς τὸ πῦρ τὸ ἄσβεστον⧽
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’46⧼ὅπου σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται⧽
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—47καὶ ἐὰν ὀφθαλμός σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε ἔκβαλε αὐτόν καλόν σέ ἐστιν μονόφθαλμον εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ δύο ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς τὴν γέενναν
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’48ὅπου σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.49Πᾶς γὰρ πυρὶ ἁλισθήσεται ⧼καὶ πᾶσα θυσία ἁλὶ ἁλισθήσεται⧽
Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”50καλὸν τὸ ἅλας ἐὰν δὲ τὸ ἅλας ἄναλον γένηται ἐν τίνι αὐτὸ ἀρτύσετε ἔχετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ἅλα καὶ εἰρηνεύετε ἐν ἀλλήλοις
