New King James VersionNew International Version
And He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.”1And he said to them, "Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power."
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.2After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them.
His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.3His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.
And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.4And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—5Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."
because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.6(He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”7Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!"
Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.8Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.10They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what "rising from the dead" meant.
And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”11And they asked him, "Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?"
Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?12Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected?
But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”13But I tell you, Elijah has come, and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him."
And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them.14When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them.
Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him.15As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”16"What are you arguing with them about?" he asked.
Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit.17A man in the crowd answered, "Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech.
And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”18Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not."
He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”19"You unbelieving generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me."
Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.20So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.21Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?" "From childhood," he answered.
And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”22"It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”23"'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for one who believes."
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”24Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!”25When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. "You deaf and mute spirit," he said, "I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."
Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”26The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, "He's dead."
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.27But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”28After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”29He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer."
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it.30They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were,
For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”31because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise."
But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.32But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?”33They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?"
But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.34But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.
And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”35Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all."
Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them,36He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them,
“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”37"Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me."
Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”38"Teacher," said John, "we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us."
But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me.39"Do not stop him," Jesus said. "For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me,
For he who is not against us is on our side.40for whoever is not against us is for us.
For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.41Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.42"If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—43If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’44
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—45And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’46
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—47And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’48where "'the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.'
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.49Everyone will be salted with fire.
Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”50"Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other."
