Leviticus 26
NKJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionNew Living Translation
‘You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God.1“Do not make idols or set up carved images, or sacred pillars, or sculptured stones in your land so you may worship them. I am the LORD your God.
You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the LORD.2You must keep my Sabbath days of rest and show reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD.
‘If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them,3“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands,
then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.4I will send you the seasonal rains. The land will then yield its crops, and the trees of the field will produce their fruit.
Your threshing shall last till the time of vintage, and the vintage shall last till the time of sowing; you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.5Your threshing season will overlap with the grape harvest, and your grape harvest will overlap with the season of planting grain. You will eat your fill and live securely in your own land.
I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land.6“I will give you peace in the land, and you will be able to sleep with no cause for fear. I will rid the land of wild animals and keep your enemies out of your land.
You will chase your enemies, and they shall fall by the sword before you.7In fact, you will chase down your enemies and slaughter them with your swords.
Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall by the sword before you.8Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand! All your enemies will fall beneath your sword.
‘For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you.9“I will look favorably upon you, making you fertile and multiplying your people. And I will fulfill my covenant with you.
You shall eat the old harvest, and clear out the old because of the new.10You will have such a surplus of crops that you will need to clear out the old grain to make room for the new harvest!
I will set My tabernacle among you, and My soul shall not abhor you.11I will live among you, and I will not despise you.
I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.12I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves; I have broken the bands of your yoke and made you walk upright.13I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the yoke of slavery from your neck so you can walk with your heads held high. Punishments for Disobedience
‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments,14“However, if you do not listen to me or obey all these commands,
and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant,15and if you break my covenant by rejecting my decrees, treating my regulations with contempt, and refusing to obey my commands,
I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.16I will punish you. I will bring sudden terrors upon you—wasting diseases and burning fevers that will cause your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will plant your crops in vain because your enemies will eat them.
I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you.17I will turn against you, and you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will run even when no one is chasing you!
‘And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.18“And if, in spite of all this, you still disobey me, I will punish you seven times over for your sins.
I will break the pride of your power; I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.19I will break your proud spirit by making the skies as unyielding as iron and the earth as hard as bronze.
And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield its produce, nor shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.20All your work will be for nothing, for your land will yield no crops, and your trees will bear no fruit.
‘Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on you seven times more plagues, according to your sins.21“If even then you remain hostile toward me and refuse to obey me, I will inflict disaster on you seven times over for your sins.
I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number; and your highways shall be desolate.22I will send wild animals that will rob you of your children and destroy your livestock. Your numbers will dwindle, and your roads will be deserted.
‘And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me,23“And if you fail to learn the lesson and continue your hostility toward me,
then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins.24then I myself will be hostile toward you. I will personally strike you with calamity seven times over for your sins.
And I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant; when you are gathered together within your cities I will send pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.25I will send armies against you to carry out the curse of the covenant you have broken. When you run to your towns for safety, I will send a plague to destroy you there, and you will be handed over to your enemies.
When I have cut off your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall bring back your bread by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.26I will destroy your food supply, so that ten women will need only one oven to bake bread for their families. They will ration your food by weight, and though you have food to eat, you will not be satisfied.
‘And after all this, if you do not obey Me, but walk contrary to Me,27“If in spite of all this you still refuse to listen and still remain hostile toward me,
then I also will walk contrary to you in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.28then I will give full vent to my hostility. I myself will punish you seven times over for your sins.
You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters.29Then you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.
I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and cast your carcasses on the lifeless forms of your idols; and My soul shall abhor you.30I will destroy your pagan shrines and knock down your places of worship. I will leave your lifeless corpses piled on top of your lifeless idols, and I will despise you.
I will lay your cities waste and bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not smell the fragrance of your sweet aromas.31I will make your cities desolate and destroy your places of pagan worship. I will take no pleasure in your offerings that should be a pleasing aroma to me.
I will bring the land to desolation, and your enemies who dwell in it shall be astonished at it.32Yes, I myself will devastate your land, and your enemies who come to occupy it will be appalled at what they see.
I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you; your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.33I will scatter you among the nations and bring out my sword against you. Your land will become desolate, and your cities will lie in ruins.
Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land; then the land shall rest and enjoy its sabbaths.34Then at last the land will enjoy its neglected Sabbath years as it lies desolate while you are in exile in the land of your enemies. Then the land will finally rest and enjoy the Sabbaths it missed.
As long as it lies desolate it shall rest— for the time it did not rest on your sabbaths when you dwelt in it.35As long as the land lies in ruins, it will enjoy the rest you never allowed it to take every seventh year while you lived in it.
‘And as for those of you who are left, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; the sound of a shaken leaf shall cause them to flee; they shall flee as though fleeing from a sword, and they shall fall when no one pursues.36“And for those of you who survive, I will demoralize you in the land of your enemies. You will live in such fear that the sound of a leaf driven by the wind will send you fleeing. You will run as though fleeing from a sword, and you will fall even when no one pursues you.
They shall stumble over one another, as it were before a sword, when no one pursues; and you shall have no power to stand before your enemies.37Though no one is chasing you, you will stumble over each other as though fleeing from a sword. You will have no power to stand up against your enemies.
You shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.38You will die among the foreign nations and be devoured in the land of your enemies.
And those of you who are left shall waste away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; also in their fathers’ iniquities, which are with them, they shall waste away.39Those of you who survive will waste away in your enemies’ lands because of their sins and the sins of their ancestors.
But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me,40“But at last my people will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors for betraying me and being hostile toward me.
and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guilt—41When I have turned their hostility back on them and brought them to the land of their enemies, then at last their stubborn hearts will be humbled, and they will pay for their sins.
then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham I will remember; I will remember the land.42Then I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.
The land also shall be left empty by them, and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; they will accept their guilt, because they despised My judgments and because their soul abhorred My statutes.43For the land must be abandoned to enjoy its years of Sabbath rest as it lies deserted. At last the people will pay for their sins, for they have continually rejected my regulations and despised my decrees.
Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, nor shall I abhor them, to utterly destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.44“But despite all this, I will not utterly reject or despise them while they are in exile in the land of their enemies. I will not cancel my covenant with them by wiping them out, for I am the LORD their God.
But for their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.’ ”45For their sakes I will remember my ancient covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of all the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.”
These are the statutes and judgments and laws which the LORD made between Himself and the children of Israel on Mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.46These are the decrees, regulations, and instructions that the LORD gave through Moses on Mount Sinai as evidence of the relationship between himself and the Israelites.
