Leviticus 26
NLT Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationKing James Bible
“Do not make idols or set up carved images, or sacred pillars, or sculptured stones in your land so you may worship them. I am the LORD your God.1Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.
You must keep my Sabbath days of rest and show reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD.2Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands,3If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
I will send you the seasonal rains. The land will then yield its crops, and the trees of the field will produce their fruit.4Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
Your threshing season will overlap with the grape harvest, and your grape harvest will overlap with the season of planting grain. You will eat your fill and live securely in your own land.5And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
“I will give you peace in the land, and you will be able to sleep with no cause for fear. I will rid the land of wild animals and keep your enemies out of your land.6And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.
In fact, you will chase down your enemies and slaughter them with your swords.7And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.
Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand! All your enemies will fall beneath your sword.8And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.
“I will look favorably upon you, making you fertile and multiplying your people. And I will fulfill my covenant with you.9For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.
You will have such a surplus of crops that you will need to clear out the old grain to make room for the new harvest!10And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.
I will live among you, and I will not despise you.11And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.
I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.12And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the yoke of slavery from your neck so you can walk with your heads held high. Punishments for Disobedience13I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
“However, if you do not listen to me or obey all these commands,14But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;
and if you break my covenant by rejecting my decrees, treating my regulations with contempt, and refusing to obey my commands,15And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:
I will punish you. I will bring sudden terrors upon you—wasting diseases and burning fevers that will cause your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will plant your crops in vain because your enemies will eat them.16I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
I will turn against you, and you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will run even when no one is chasing you!17And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.
“And if, in spite of all this, you still disobey me, I will punish you seven times over for your sins.18And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
I will break your proud spirit by making the skies as unyielding as iron and the earth as hard as bronze.19And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:
All your work will be for nothing, for your land will yield no crops, and your trees will bear no fruit.20And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.
“If even then you remain hostile toward me and refuse to obey me, I will inflict disaster on you seven times over for your sins.21And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.
I will send wild animals that will rob you of your children and destroy your livestock. Your numbers will dwindle, and your roads will be deserted.22I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.
“And if you fail to learn the lesson and continue your hostility toward me,23And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;
then I myself will be hostile toward you. I will personally strike you with calamity seven times over for your sins.24Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
I will send armies against you to carry out the curse of the covenant you have broken. When you run to your towns for safety, I will send a plague to destroy you there, and you will be handed over to your enemies.25And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
I will destroy your food supply, so that ten women will need only one oven to bake bread for their families. They will ration your food by weight, and though you have food to eat, you will not be satisfied.26And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.
“If in spite of all this you still refuse to listen and still remain hostile toward me,27And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;
then I will give full vent to my hostility. I myself will punish you seven times over for your sins.28Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.
Then you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.29And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.
I will destroy your pagan shrines and knock down your places of worship. I will leave your lifeless corpses piled on top of your lifeless idols, and I will despise you.30And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.
I will make your cities desolate and destroy your places of pagan worship. I will take no pleasure in your offerings that should be a pleasing aroma to me.31And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.
Yes, I myself will devastate your land, and your enemies who come to occupy it will be appalled at what they see.32And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.
I will scatter you among the nations and bring out my sword against you. Your land will become desolate, and your cities will lie in ruins.33And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.
Then at last the land will enjoy its neglected Sabbath years as it lies desolate while you are in exile in the land of your enemies. Then the land will finally rest and enjoy the Sabbaths it missed.34Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.
As long as the land lies in ruins, it will enjoy the rest you never allowed it to take every seventh year while you lived in it.35As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.
“And for those of you who survive, I will demoralize you in the land of your enemies. You will live in such fear that the sound of a leaf driven by the wind will send you fleeing. You will run as though fleeing from a sword, and you will fall even when no one pursues you.36And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.
Though no one is chasing you, you will stumble over each other as though fleeing from a sword. You will have no power to stand up against your enemies.37And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
You will die among the foreign nations and be devoured in the land of your enemies.38And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.
Those of you who survive will waste away in your enemies’ lands because of their sins and the sins of their ancestors.39And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.
“But at last my people will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors for betraying me and being hostile toward me.40If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;
When I have turned their hostility back on them and brought them to the land of their enemies, then at last their stubborn hearts will be humbled, and they will pay for their sins.41And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:
Then I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.42Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.
For the land must be abandoned to enjoy its years of Sabbath rest as it lies deserted. At last the people will pay for their sins, for they have continually rejected my regulations and despised my decrees.43The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.
“But despite all this, I will not utterly reject or despise them while they are in exile in the land of their enemies. I will not cancel my covenant with them by wiping them out, for I am the LORD their God.44And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.
For their sakes I will remember my ancient covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of all the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.”45But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.
These are the decrees, regulations, and instructions that the LORD gave through Moses on Mount Sinai as evidence of the relationship between himself and the Israelites.46These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
