The Sons of Israel
(Genesis 35:21–26; Genesis 38:1–30)

1  אֵ֖לֶּה (These were) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel):

רְאוּבֵ֤ן (Reuben), שִׁמְעוֹן֙ (Simeon), לֵוִ֣י (Levi), וִיהוּדָ֔ה (and Judah), יִשָׂשכָ֖ר (Issachar), וּזְבֻלֽוּן׃ (and Zebulun), 2  דָּ֚ן (Dan), יוֹסֵ֣ף (Joseph), וּבִנְיָמִ֔ן (and Benjamin), נַפְתָּלִ֖י (Naphtali), גָּ֥ד (Gad), וְאָשֵֽׁר׃ס (and Asher).

3  בְּנֵ֣י (The sons) יְהוּדָ֗ה (of Judah):

עֵ֤ר (Er), וְאוֹנָן֙ (and Onan), וְשֵׁלָ֔ה (and Shelah); שְׁלוֹשָׁה֙ (these three) נ֣וֹלַד (were born) ל֔וֹ (to him) מִבַּת־ (of a daughter) שׁ֖וּעַ (of Shua) הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֑ית (the Canaanitess). וַיְהִ֞י (And was) עֵ֣ר׀ (Er) בְּכ֣וֹר (the firstborn) יְהוּדָ֗ה (of Judah) רַ֛ע (wicked) בְּעֵינֵ֥י (in the eyes) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH), וַיְמִיתֵֽהוּ׃ס (and He put him to death).

4  וְתָמָר֙ (And Tamar) כַּלָּת֔וֹ (his daughter-in-law) יָ֥לְדָה (bore) לּ֖וֹ (to him) אֶת־ (-) פֶּ֣רֶץ (Perez) וְאֶת־ (and) זָ֑רַח (Zerah). כָּל־ (All) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יְהוּדָ֖ה (of Judah) חֲמִשָּֽׁה׃ס (were five).

5  בְּנֵי־ (The sons) פֶ֖רֶץ (of Perez):

חֶצְר֥וֹן (Hezron) וְחָמֽוּל׃ס (and Hamul).

6  וּבְנֵ֣י (And the sons) זֶ֗רַח (of Zerah):

זִ֠מְרִי (ZImri), וְאֵיתָ֧ן (and Ethan), וְהֵימָ֛ן (and Heman), וְכַלְכֹּ֥ל (and Calcol), וָדָ֖רַע (and Dara); כֻּלָּ֥ם (of them in all) חֲמִשָּֽׁה׃ס (five).

7  וּבְנֵ֖י (And the sons) כַּרְמִ֑י (of Carmi):

עָכָר֙ (Achar) עוֹכֵ֣ר (troubler) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) מָעַ֖ל (transgressed) בַּחֵֽרֶם׃ס (regarding the devoted thing).

8  וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) אֵיתָ֖ן (of Ethan):

עֲזַרְיָֽה׃ (Azariah).

9  וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) חֶצְר֖וֹן (of Hezron) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) נוֹלַד־ (were born) ל֑וֹ (to him) אֶת־ (-):

יְרַחְמְאֵ֥ל (Jerahmeel), וְאֶת־ (and) רָ֖ם (Ram), וְאֶת־ (and) כְּלוּבָֽי׃ (Chelubai).

10  וְרָ֖ם (And Ram) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) עַמִּינָדָ֑ב (Amminadab), וְעַמִּינָדָב֙ (and Amminadab) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) נַחְשׁ֔וֹן (Nahshon), נְשִׂ֖יא (a leader) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) יְהוּדָֽה׃ (of Judah);

11  וְנַחְשׁוֹן֙ (and Nahshon) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) שַׂלְמָ֔א (Salma), וְשַׂלְמָ֖א (and Salma) הוֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) בֹּֽעַז׃ (Boa z),

12  וּבֹ֙עַז֙ (and Boaz) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) עוֹבֵ֔ד (Obed), וְעוֹבֵ֖ד (and Obed) הוֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) יִשָֽׁי׃ (Jesse),

13  וְאִישַׁ֛י (and Jesse) הוֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) בְּכֹר֖וֹ (his firstborn) אֶת־ (-) אֱלִיאָ֑ב (Eliab), וַאֲבִינָדָב֙ (and Abinadab) הַשֵּׁנִ֔י (the second), וְשִׁמְעָ֖א (and Shimea) הַשְּׁלִישִֽׁי׃ (the third), 14  נְתַנְאֵל֙ (Nethanel) הָֽרְבִיעִ֔י (the fourth), רַדַּ֖י (Raddai) הַחֲמִישִֽׁי׃ (the fifth), 15  אֹ֚צֶם (Ozem) הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י (the sixth), דָּוִ֖יד (and David) הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃ (the seventh). 16  וְאַחְיֹתֵיהֶם (And their sisters) צְרוּיָ֣ה (Zeruiah) וַאֲבִיגָ֑יִל (and Abigail). וּבְנֵ֣י (And the sons) צְרוּיָ֗ה (of Zeruiah): אַבְשַׁ֛י (Abishai), וְיוֹאָ֥ב (and Joab), וַעֲשָׂה־ (and Asah-) אֵ֖ל (el)— שְׁלֹשָֽׁה׃ (three). 17  וַאֲבִיגַ֕יִל (And Abigail) יָלְדָ֖ה (bore) אֶת־ (-) עֲמָשָׂ֑א (Amasa), וַאֲבִ֣י (and the father) עֲמָשָׂ֔א (of Amasa) יֶ֖תֶר (was Jether) הַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִֽי׃ (the Ishmaelite).

18  וְכָלֵ֣ב (And Caleb) בֶּן־ (son) חֶצְר֗וֹן (of Hezron) הוֹלִ֛יד (had children) אֶת־ (-) עֲזוּבָ֥ה (by Azubah) אִשָּׁ֖ה (his wife) וְאֶת־ (and by) יְרִיע֑וֹת (Jerioth). וְאֵ֣לֶּה (And these were) בָנֶ֔יהָ (her sons): יֵ֥שֶׁר (Jesher), וְשׁוֹבָ֖ב (and Shobab), וְאַרְדּֽוֹן׃ (and Ardon). 19  וַתָּ֖מָת (And died) עֲזוּבָ֑ה (Azubah). וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ (And took) ל֤וֹ (as his wife) כָלֵב֙ (Caleb) אֶת־ (-) אֶפְרָ֔ת (Ephrath), וַתֵּ֥לֶד (and she bore) ל֖וֹ (to him) אֶת־ (-) חֽוּר׃ (Hur). 20  וְחוּר֙ (And Hur) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) אוּרִ֔י (Uri), וְאוּרִ֖י (and Uri) הוֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) בְּצַלְאֵֽל׃ס (Bezalel).

21  וְאַחַ֗ר (And afterward) בָּ֤א (went in) חֶצְרוֹן֙ (Hezron) אֶל־ (to) בַּת־ (the daughter) מָכִיר֙ (of Machir) אֲבִ֣י (father) גִלְעָ֔ד (of Gilead), וְה֣וּא (and he) לְקָחָ֔הּ (married her). וְה֖וּא (And he was) בֶּן־ (a son) שִׁשִּׁ֣ים (of sixty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years), וַתֵּ֥לֶד (and she bore) ל֖וֹ (to him) אֶת־ (-) שְׂגֽוּב׃ (Segub). 22  וּשְׂג֖וּב (And Segub) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) יָאִ֑יר (Jair), וַֽיְהִי־ (and he had) ל֗וֹ (unto him) עֶשְׂרִ֤ים (twenty) וְשָׁלוֹשׁ֙ (and three) עָרִ֔ים (cities) בְּאֶ֖רֶץ (in the land) הַגִּלְעָֽד׃ (of Gilead). 23  וַיִּקַּ֣ח (And took) גְּשֽׁוּר־ (Geshur) וַ֠אֲרָם (and Aram) אֶת־ (-) חַוֺּ֨ת (Havvoth-) יָאִ֧יר (jair), מֵאִתָּ֛ם (with) אֶת־ (-) קְנָ֥ת (Kenath) וְאֶת־ (and) בְּנֹתֶ֖יהָ (its daughters)— שִׁשִּׁ֣ים (sixty) עִ֑יר (towns). כָּל־ (All) אֵ֕לֶּה (these were) בְּנֵ֖י (the sons) מָכִ֥יר (of Machir) אֲבִי־ (the father) גִלְעָֽד׃ (of Gilead).

24  וְאַחַ֥ר (And after) מוֹת־ (the death) חֶצְר֖וֹן (of Hezron) בְּכָלֵ֣ב (in Caleb-) אֶפְרָ֑תָה (ephrathah), וְאֵ֤שֶׁת (and the wife) חֶצְרוֹן֙ (of Hezron), אֲבִיָּ֔ה (Abijah), וַתֵּ֣לֶד (and bore) ל֔וֹ (to him) אֶת־ (-) אַשְׁח֖וּר (Ashhur) אֲבִ֥י (father) תְקֽוֹעַ׃ (of Tekoa).

25  וַיִּהְי֧וּ (And) בְנֵי־ (the sons) יְרַחְמְאֵ֛ל (of Jerahmeel) בְּכ֥וֹר (the firstborn) חֶצְר֖וֹן (of Hezron):

הַבְּכ֣וֹר׀ (The firstborn) רָ֑ם (Ram), וּבוּנָ֥ה (and Bunah), וָאֹ֛רֶן (and Oren), וָאֹ֖צֶם (and Ozem), אֲחִיָּֽה׃ (and Ahijah). 26  וַתְּהִ֨י (And was) אִשָּׁ֥ה (wife) אַחֶ֛רֶת (another) לִֽירַחְמְאֵ֖ל (to Jerahmeel), וּשְׁמָ֣הּ (and her name) עֲטָרָ֑ה (was Atarah). הִ֖יא (She was) אֵ֥ם (the mother) אוֹנָֽם׃ס (of Onam).

27  וַיִּהְי֥וּ (And were) בְנֵי־ (the sons) רָ֖ם (of Ram) בְּכ֣וֹר (the firstborn) יְרַחְמְאֵ֑ל (of Jerahmeel):

מַ֥עַץ (Maaz), וְיָמִ֖ין (and Jamin), וָעֵֽקֶר׃ (and Eker).

28  וַיִּהְי֥וּ (And were) בְנֵי־ (the sons) אוֹנָ֖ם (of Onam):

שַׁמַּ֣י (Shammai) וְיָדָ֑ע (and Jada).

וּבְנֵ֣י (And the sons) שַׁמַּ֔י (of Shammai):

נָדָ֖ב (Nadab), וַאֲבִישֽׁוּר׃ (and Abishur). 29  וְשֵׁ֛ם (And the name) אֵ֥שֶׁת (of the wife) אֲבִישׁ֖וּר (of Abishur) אֲבִיהָ֑יִל (was Abihail), וַתֵּ֣לֶד (and she bore) ל֔וֹ (to him) אֶת־ (-) אַחְבָּ֖ן (Ahban) וְאֶת־ (and) מוֹלִֽיד׃ (Molid).

30  וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) נָדָ֖ב (of Nadab):

סֶ֣לֶד (Seled) וְאַפָּ֑יִם (and Appaim). וַיָּ֥מָת (And died) סֶ֖לֶד (Seled) לֹ֥א (without) בָנִֽים׃ס (sons).

31  וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) אַפַּ֖יִם (of Appaim):

יִשְׁעִ֑י (Ishi).

וּבְנֵ֤י (And the sons) יִשְׁעִי֙ (of Ishi):

שֵׁשָׁ֔ן (Sheshan).

וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) שֵׁשָׁ֖ן (of Sheshan);

אַחְלָֽי׃ (was Ahlai).

32  וּבְנֵ֤י (And the sons) יָדָע֙ (of Jada) אֲחִ֣י (the brother) שַׁמַּ֔י (of Shammai):

יֶ֖תֶר (Jether) וְיוֹנָתָ֑ן (and Jonathan). וַיָּ֥מָת (And died) יֶ֖תֶר (Jether) לֹ֥א (without) בָנִֽים׃ס (sons).

33  וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) יוֹנָתָ֖ן (of Jonathan):

פֶּ֣לֶת (Peleth) וְזָזָ֑א (and Zaza).

אֵ֥לֶּה (These) הָי֖וּ (were) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יְרַחְמְאֵֽל׃ (of Jerahmeel).

34  וְלֹֽא־ (And not) הָיָ֧ה (there were) לְשֵׁשָׁ֛ן (unto Sheshan) בָּנִ֖ים (sons), כִּ֣י (but) אִם־ (only) בָּנ֑וֹת (daughters). וּלְשֵׁשָׁ֛ן (And unto Sheshan) עֶ֥בֶד (was a servant), מִצְרִ֖י (an Egyptian), וּשְׁמ֥וֹ (and his name) יַרְחָֽע׃ (was Jarha). 35  וַיִּתֵּ֨ן (And gave) שֵׁשָׁ֧ן (Sheshan) אֶת־ (-) בִּתּ֛וֹ (his daughter) לְיַרְחָ֥ע (to Jarha) עַבְדּ֖וֹ (his servant) לְאִשָּׁ֑ה (for a wife), וַתֵּ֥לֶד (and she bore) ל֖וֹ (to him) אֶת־ (-) עַתָּֽי׃ (Attai).

36  וְעַתַּי֙ (And Attai) הֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) נָתָ֔ן (Nathan), וְנָתָ֖ן (and Nathan) הוֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) זָבָֽד׃ (Zabad), 37  וְזָבָד֙ (and Zabad) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) אֶפְלָ֔ל (Ephlal), וְאֶפְלָ֖ל (and Ephlal) הוֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) עוֹבֵֽד׃ (Obed), 38  וְעוֹבֵד֙ (and Obed) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) יֵה֔וּא (Jehu), וְיֵה֖וּא (and Jehu) הוֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) עֲזַרְיָֽה׃ (Azariah), 39  וַעֲזַרְיָה֙ (and Azariah) הֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) חָ֔לֶץ (Helez), וְחֶ֖לֶץ (and Helez) הֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) אֶלְעָשָֽׂה׃ (Eleasah), 40  וְאֶלְעָשָׂה֙ (and Eleasah) הֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) סִֽסְמָ֔י (Sismai), וְסִסְמַ֖י (and Sismai) הֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) שַׁלּֽוּם׃ (Shallum), 41  וְשַׁלּוּם֙ (and Shallum) הוֹלִ֣יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) יְקַמְיָ֔ה (Jekamiah), וִֽיקַמְיָ֖ה (and Jekamiah) הֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) אֱלִישָׁמָֽע׃ (Elishama).

42  וּבְנֵ֤י (And the sons) כָלֵב֙ (of Caleb) אֲחִ֣י (the brother) יְרַחְמְאֵ֔ל (of Jerahmeel):

מֵישָׁ֥ע (Mesha) בְּכֹר֖וֹ (his firstborn) ה֣וּא (he was) אֲבִי־ (the father) זִ֑יף (of Ziph)) וּבְנֵ֥י (and the sons) מָרֵשָׁ֖ה (of Mareshah) אֲבִ֥י (the father) חֶבְרֽוֹן׃ (of Hebron).

43  וּבְנֵ֖י (And the sons) חֶבְר֑וֹן (of Hebron):

קֹ֥רַח (Korah), וְתַפֻּ֖חַ (and Tappuah), וְרֶ֥קֶם (and Rekem), וָשָֽׁמַע׃ (and Shema). 44  וְשֶׁ֣מַע (And Shema) הוֹלִ֔יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) רַ֖חַם (Raham) אֲבִ֣י (the father) יָרְקֳעָ֑ם (of Jorkoam), וְרֶ֖קֶם (and Rekem) הוֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) שַׁמָּֽי׃ (Shammai). 45  וּבֶן־ (And son) שַׁמַּ֖י (of Shammai) מָע֑וֹן (was Maon), וּמָע֖וֹן (and Maon) אֲבִ֥י (was the father) בֵֽית־ (of Beth-) צֽוּר׃ (zur).

46  וְעֵיפָה֙ (And Ephah), פִּילֶ֣גֶשׁ (concubine) כָּלֵ֔ב (of Caleb), יָֽלְדָ֛ה (bore) אֶת־ (-) חָרָ֥ן (Haran), וְאֶת־ (and) מוֹצָ֖א (Moza), וְאֶת־ (and) גָּזֵ֑ז (Gazez). וְחָרָ֖ן (And Haran) הֹלִ֥יד (begat) אֶת־ (-) גָּזֵֽז׃ס (Gaze z).

47  וּבְנֵ֖י (And the sons) יָהְדָּ֑י (of Jahdai):

רֶ֧גֶם (Regem), וְיוֹתָ֛ם (and Jotham), וְגֵישָׁ֥ן (and Geshan), וָפֶ֖לֶט (and Pelet), וְעֵיפָ֥ה (and Ephah), וָשָֽׁעַף׃ (and Shaaph).

48  פִּלֶ֤גֶשׁ (The concubine) כָּלֵב֙ (of Caleb), מַעֲכָ֔ה (Maacah), יָ֥לַד (bore) שֶׁ֖בֶר (Sheber) וְאֶֽת־ (and) תִּרְחֲנָֽה׃ (Tirhanah). 49  וַתֵּ֗לֶד (And she bore) שַׁ֚עַף (Shaaph) אֲבִ֣י (the father) מַדְמַנָּ֔ה (of Madmannah), אֶת־ (-) שְׁוָ֛א (Sheva) אֲבִ֥י (the father) מַכְבֵּנָ֖ה (of Machbenah), וַאֲבִ֣י (and the father) גִבְעָ֑א (of Gibea). וּבַת־ (And the daughter) כָּלֵ֖ב (of Caleb) עַכְסָֽה׃ס (was Acsah). 50  אֵ֤לֶּה (These) הָיוּ֙ (were) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) כָלֵ֔ב (of Caleb).

בֶּן־ (The son) ח֖וּר (of Hur) בְּכ֣וֹר (the firstborn) אֶפְרָ֑תָה (of Ephrathah):

שׁוֹבָ֕ל (Shobal) אֲבִ֖י (the father) קִרְיַ֥ת (of Kiriath-) יְעָרִֽים׃ (jearim), 51  שַׂלְמָא֙ (Salma) אֲבִ֣י (the father) בֵֽית־ (of Beth-) לָ֔חֶם (lehem), חָרֵ֖ף (and Hareph) אֲבִ֥י (the father) בֵית־ (of Beth-) גָּדֵֽר׃ (gader).

52  וַיִּהְי֤וּ (And were) בָנִים֙ (the sons) לְשׁוֹבָ֔ל (Shobal) אֲבִ֖י (the father) קִרְיַ֣ת (of Kiriath-) יְעָרִ֑ים (jearim):

הָרֹאֶ֖ה (Haroeh), חֲצִ֥י (half) הַמְּנֻחֽוֹת׃ (the Manahathites), 53  וּמִשְׁפְּחוֹת֙ (and the clans) קִרְיַ֣ת (of Kiriath-) יְעָרִ֔ים (jearim)— הַיִּתְרִי֙ (the Ithrite), וְהַפּוּתִ֔י (and the Puthite), וְהַשֻּׁמָתִ֖י (and the Shumathite), וְהַמִּשְׁרָעִ֑י (and the Mishraite). מֵאֵ֗לֶּה (From these) יָצְאוּ֙ (came) הַצָּ֣רְעָתִ֔י (the Zorathite) וְהָאֶשְׁתָּ֖אֻֽלִֽי׃ס (and the Eshtaolite).

54  בְּנֵ֣י (The sons) שַׂלְמָ֗א (of Salma):

בֵּ֥ית (Of Beth-) לֶ֙חֶם֙ (lehem), וּנְט֣וֹפָתִ֔י (and the Netophathite), עַטְר֖וֹת (Atroth-) בֵּ֣ית (beth-) יוֹאָ֑ב (joab), וַחֲצִ֥י (and half) הַמָּנַחְתִּ֖י (the Manahathite), הַצָּרְעִֽי׃ (the Zorite), 55  וּמִשְׁפְּח֤וֹת (and the clans) סֹפְרִים֙ (of the scribes) יֹשְׁבוּ (who dwelt) יַעְבֵּ֔ץ (at Jabez)— תִּרְעָתִ֥ים (the Tirathites), שִׁמְעָתִ֖ים (the Shimeathites), שׂוּכָתִ֑ים (and the Suchathites). הֵ֚מָּה (These are) הַקִּינִ֣ים (the Kenites) הַבָּאִ֔ים (who came) מֵחַמַּ֖ת (from Hammath), אֲבִ֥י (the father) בֵית־ (of the house) רֵכָֽב׃ס (of Rechab).
