Mark 3

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
(Matthew 12:9–14; Luke 6:6–11)

1  Καὶ (And) εἰσῆλθεν (He entered) πάλιν (again) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) συναγωγήν (synagogue), καὶ (and) ἦν (there was) ἐκεῖ (there) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἐξηραμμένην (withered) ἔχων (having) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand)· 2  καὶ (and) παρετήρουν (they were watching) αὐτὸν (Him) εἰ (whether) τοῖς (on the) σάββασιν (Sabbaths) θεραπεύσει (He will heal) αὐτόν (him), ἵνα (so that) κατηγορήσωσιν (they might accuse) αὐτοῦ (Him).

3  Καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) τῷ (to the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man) τῷ (-) τὴν (the) ξηράν (withered) χεῖρα (hand) ἔχοντι (having)· Ἔγειρε (Arise) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) μέσον (midst). 4  καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἔξεστιν (Is it lawful) τοῖς (on the) σάββασιν (Sabbaths) ἀγαθὸν¦ποιῆσαι (to do good) (or) κακοποιῆσαι (to do evil), ψυχὴν (Life) σῶσαι (to save) (or) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill)?

5  Καὶ (And) περιβλεψάμενος (having looked around at) αὐτοὺς (them) μετ’ (with) ὀργῆς (anger), συλλυπούμενος (being grieved) ἐπὶ (at) τῇ (the) πωρώσει (hardness) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) αὐτῶν (of them), λέγει (He says) τῷ (to the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man)· Ἔκτεινον (Stretch out) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) σου (of you). καὶ (And) ἐξέτεινεν (he stretched it out), καὶ (and) ἀπεκατεστάθη (was restored) (the) χεὶρ (hand) αὐτοῦ (of him).

6  Καὶ (And) ἐξελθόντες (having gone out) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) εὐθὺς (immediately) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) Ἡρῳδιανῶν (Herodians) συμβούλιον (counsel) ἐδίδουν (were taking) κατ’ (against) αὐτοῦ (Him), ὅπως (how) αὐτὸν (Him) ἀπολέσωσιν (they might destroy).

7  Καὶ (And) (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀνεχώρησεν (withdrew) πρὸς (to) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea)· καὶ (and) πολὺ (great) πλῆθος (a multitude) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) ἠκολούθησεν (followed)· καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) Ἰουδαίας (Judea) 8  καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) Ἱεροσολύμων (Jerusalem) καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) Ἰδουμαίας (Idumea) καὶ (and) πέραν (beyond) τοῦ (the) Ἰορδάνου (Jordan) καὶ (and) περὶ (around) Τύρον (Tyre) καὶ (and) Σιδῶνα (Sidon), πλῆθος (A multitude) πολύ (great), ἀκούοντες (having heard) ὅσα (how much) ἐποίει (He was doing), ἦλθον (came) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him).

9  Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He spoke) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἵνα (so that) πλοιάριον (a boat) προσκαρτερῇ (may wait on) αὐτῷ (Him) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) θλίβωσιν (they might press upon) αὐτόν (Him)· 10  πολλοὺς (Many) γὰρ (for) ἐθεράπευσεν (He healed), ὥστε (so as for) ἐπιπίπτειν (to fall upon) αὐτῷ (Him) ἵνα (so that) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἅψωνται (they might touch) ὅσοι (as many as) εἶχον (had) μάστιγας (afflictions). 11  καὶ (And) τὰ (the) πνεύματα (spirits) τὰ (-) ἀκάθαρτα (unclean), ὅταν (when) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐθεώρουν (they were seeing), προσέπιπτον (were falling down before) αὐτῷ (Him) καὶ (and) ἔκραζον (crying out) λέγοντα (saying) ὅτι (-) Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). 12  καὶ (And) πολλὰ (much) ἐπετίμα (He was warning) αὐτοῖς (them) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) αὐτὸν (Him) φανερὸν (known) ποιήσωσιν (they should make).

16  Καὶ (And) ἐποίησεν (He appointed) τοὺς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve), καὶ (And) ἐπέθηκεν (He added) ὄνομα (the name) τῷ (to) Σίμωνι (Simon) Πέτρον (Peter)· 17  καὶ (and) Ἰάκωβον (James) τὸν (the son) τοῦ (of) Ζεβεδαίου (Zebedee) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννην (John) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) τοῦ (-) Ἰακώβου (of James), καὶ (and) ἐπέθηκεν (He added) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὀνόματα (the name) Βοανηργές (Boanerges), (which) ἐστιν (is) Υἱοὶ (Sons) Βροντῆς (of Thunder)· 18  καὶ (and) Ἀνδρέαν (Andrew) καὶ (and) Φίλιππον (Philip) καὶ (and) Βαρθολομαῖον (Bartholomew) καὶ (and) Μαθθαῖον (Matthew) καὶ (and) Θωμᾶν (Thomas) καὶ (and) Ἰάκωβον (James) τὸν (the son) τοῦ (-) Ἁλφαίου (of Alphaeus) καὶ (and) Θαδδαῖον (Thaddaeus) καὶ (and) Σίμωνα (Simon) τὸν (the) Καναναῖον (Cananean) 19  καὶ (and) Ἰούδαν (Judas) Ἰσκαριώθ (Iscariot), ὃς (who) καὶ (also) παρέδωκεν (betrayed) αὐτόν (Him).

A House Divided

20  Καὶ (And) ἔρχεται (He comes) εἰς (to) οἶκον (a house)· καὶ (and) συνέρχεται (comes together) πάλιν (again) (a) ὄχλος (crowd), ὥστε (so that) μὴ (not) δύνασθαι (are they able) αὐτοὺς (them) μηδὲ (even) ἄρτον (bread) φαγεῖν (to eat). 21  καὶ (And) ἀκούσαντες (having heard) οἱ (those) παρ’ (belonging to) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἐξῆλθον (went out) κρατῆσαι (to seize) αὐτόν (Him)· ἔλεγον (they were saying) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) Ἐξέστη (He was out of His mind).

22  Καὶ (And) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) οἱ (those) ἀπὸ (from) Ἱεροσολύμων (Jerusalem) καταβάντες (having come down) ἔλεγον (were saying) ὅτι (-) Βεελζεβοὺλ (Beelzebul) ἔχει (He has), καὶ (and) ὅτι (-) Ἐν (By) τῷ (the) ἄρχοντι (ruler) τῶν (of the) δαιμονίων (demons) ἐκβάλλει (He casts out) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons).

23  Καὶ (And) προσκαλεσάμενος (having summoned) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Πῶς (How) δύναται (is able) Σατανᾶς (Satan) Σατανᾶν (Satan) ἐκβάλλειν (to cast out)? 24  καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) βασιλεία (a kingdom) ἐφ’ (against) ἑαυτὴν (itself) μερισθῇ (may be divided), οὐ (not) δύναται (is able) σταθῆναι (to stand) (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἐκείνη (that)· 25  καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) οἰκία (a house) ἐφ’ (against) ἑαυτὴν (itself) μερισθῇ (may be divided), οὐ (not) δυνήσεται (will be able) (the) οἰκία (house) ἐκείνη (that) σταθῆναι (to stand). 26  καὶ (And) εἰ (if) (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan) ἀνέστη (rose up) ἐφ’ (against) ἑαυτὸν (himself) καὶ (and) ἐμερίσθη (was divided), οὐ (not) δύναται (he is able) στῆναι (to stand) ἀλλὰ (but) τέλος (an end) ἔχει (he has). 27  ἀλλ’ (But) οὐ (not) δύναται (is able) οὐδεὶς (no one) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) τοῦ (of the) ἰσχυροῦ (strong man) εἰσελθὼν (having entered) τὰ (the) σκεύη (goods) αὐτοῦ (of him) διαρπάσαι (to plunder), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) πρῶτον (first) τὸν (the) ἰσχυρὸν (strong man) δήσῃ (he should bind), καὶ (And) τότε (then) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) αὐτοῦ (of him) διαρπάσει (he will plunder).

The Unpardonable Sin

28  Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) ὅτι (that) πάντα (all) ἀφεθήσεται (will be forgiven) τοῖς (the) υἱοῖς (sons) τῶν (the) ἀνθρώπων (of men), τὰ (the) ἁμαρτήματα (sins) καὶ (and) αἱ (the) βλασφημίαι (blasphemies), ὅσα (as many as) ἐὰν (if) βλασφημήσωσιν (they may blaspheme)· 29  ὃς (Whoever) δ’ (however) ἂν (-) βλασφημήσῃ (may blaspheme) εἰς (in regard to) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy), οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), ἀλλὰ (but) ἔνοχός (guilty) ἐστιν (is) αἰωνίου (of eternal) ἁμαρτήματος (sin).

30  Ὅτι (For) ἔλεγον (they were saying)· Πνεῦμα (A spirit) ἀκάθαρτον (unclean) ἔχει (He has).

31  Καὶ (And) ἔρχονται (come) (the) μήτηρ (mother) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἔξω (outside) στήκοντες (standing) ἀπέστειλαν (they sent) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) καλοῦντες (calling) αὐτόν (Him). 32  καὶ (And) ἐκάθητο (was sitting) περὶ (around) αὐτὸν (Him) ὄχλος (a crowd), καὶ (And) λέγουσιν (they say) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Ἰδοὺ (Behold) (the) μήτηρ (mother) σου (of You) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοί (brothers) σου (of You) ἔξω (outside) ζητοῦσίν (seek) σε (You).

33  Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) αὐτοῖς (them) λέγει (He says)· Τίς (Who) ἐστιν (are) (the) μήτηρ (mother) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of Me)? 34  καὶ (And) περιβλεψάμενος (having looked around at) τοὺς (those) περὶ (around) αὐτὸν (Him) κύκλῳ (in a circle) καθημένους (sitting) λέγει (He says)· Ἴδε (Behold) (the) μήτηρ (mother) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of Me). 35  ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἂν (-) ποιήσῃ (shall do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), οὗτος (this) ἀδελφός (brother) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) ἀδελφὴ (sister) καὶ (and) μήτηρ (mother) ἐστίν (is).
