Hebrews 10
BSB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
Berean Study BibleInternational Standard Version
For the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the realities themselves. It can never, by the same sacrifices offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.1For the Law, being only a reflection of the blessings to come and not their substance, can never make perfect those who come near by the same sacrifices repeatedly offered year after year.
If it could, would not the offerings have ceased? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt the guilt of their sins.2Otherwise, would they not have stopped offering them, because the worshipers, cleansed once for all, would no longer be aware of any sins?
Instead, those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins,3Instead, through those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year after year,
because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.4for it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me.5For this reason, the Scriptures say, when the Messiah was about to come into the world: "You did not want sacrifices and offerings, but you prepared a body for me.
In burnt offerings and sin offerings You took no delight.6In burnt offerings and sin offerings you never took delight.
Then I said, ‘Here I am, it is written about Me in the scroll: I have come to do Your will, O God.’ ”7Then I said, 'See, I have come to do your will, O God' In the volume of the scroll this is written about me."
In the passage above He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor did You delight in them” (although they are offered according to the law).8In this passage he says, "You never wanted or took delight in sacrifices, offerings, burnt offerings, and sin offerings," which are offered according to the Law.
Then He adds, “Here I am, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first to establish the second.9Then he says, "See, I have come to do your will." He takes away the first in order to establish the second.
And by that will, we have been sanctified through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.10By God's will we have been sanctified once and for all through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus, the Messiah.
Day after day every priest stands to minister and to offer again and again the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.11Day after day every priest stands and repeatedly offers the same sacrifices that can never take away sins.
But when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God.12But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, "he sat down at the right hand of God."
Since that time, He waits for His enemies to be made a footstool for His feet,13Since that time, he has been waiting for his enemies to be made a footstool for his feet.
because by a single offering He has made perfect for all time those who are being sanctified.14For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First He says:15The Holy Spirit also assures us of this, for he said:
“This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their hearts and inscribe them on their minds.”16"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts and will write them on their minds,
Then He adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”17and I will never again remember their sins and their lawless deeds."
And where these have been forgiven, an offering for sin is no longer needed.18Now where there is forgiveness of these sins, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,19Therefore, my brothers, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus,
by the new and living way opened for us through the curtain of His body,20the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh),
and since we have a great priest over the house of God,21and since we have a great high priest over the household of God,
let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.22let us continue to come near with sincere hearts in the full assurance that faith provides, because our hearts have been sprinkled clean from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.23Let us continue to hold firmly to the hope that we confess without wavering, for the one who made the promise is faithful.
And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds.24And let us continue to consider how to motivate one another to love and good deeds,
Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.25not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another even more as you see the day of the Lord coming nearer.
If we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains,26For if we choose to go on sinning after we have learned the full truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume all adversaries.27but only a terrifying prospect of judgment and a raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.28Anyone who violates the Law of Moses dies without mercy "on the testimony of two or three witnesses."
How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace?29How much more severe a punishment do you think that person deserves who tramples on God's Son, treats as common the blood of the covenant by which it was sanctified, and insults the Spirit of grace?
For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge His people.”30For we know the one who said, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will pay them back," and again, "The Lord will judge his people."
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.31It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God!
Remember the early days that you were in the light. In those days, you endured a great conflict in the face of suffering.32But you must continue to remember those earlier days, how after you were enlightened you endured a hard and painful struggle.
Sometimes you were publicly exposed to ridicule and persecution; at other times you were partners with those who were so treated.33At times you were made a public spectacle by means of insults and persecutions, while at other times you associated with people who were treated this way.
You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and permanent possession.34For you sympathized with the prisoners and cheerfully submitted to the violent seizure of your property, because you know that you have a better and more permanent possession.
So do not throw away your confidence; it holds a great reward.35So don't lose your confidence, since it holds a great reward for you.
You need to persevere, so that after you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.36For you need endurance, so that after you have done God's will you can receive what he has promised.
For, “In just a little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay.37For "in a very little while the one who is coming will return— he will not delay;
But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he shrinks back, I will take no pleasure in him.”38but my righteous one will live by faith, and if he turns back, my soul will take no pleasure in him."
But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.39Now, we do not belong to those who turn back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
