| 2There was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. | 2Now a man named Zacchaeus was there; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. |
| 3He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was not able because of the crowd, since he was a short man. | 3He was trying to get a look at Jesus, but being a short man he could not see over the crowd. |
| 4So running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree to see Jesus, since He was about to pass that way. | 4So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, because Jesus was going to pass that way. |
| 5When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down because today I must stay at your house." | 5And when Jesus came to that place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down quickly, because I must stay at your house today." |

| 12Therefore He said: "A nobleman traveled to a far country to receive for himself authority to be king and then return. | 12Therefore he said, "A nobleman went to a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return. |
| 13He called 10 of his slaves, gave them 10 minas, and told them, Engage in business until I come back.' | 13And he summoned ten of his slaves, gave them ten minas, and said to them, 'Do business with these until I come back.' |
| 14"But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, We don't want this man to rule over us!' | 14But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We do not want this man to be king over us!' |
| 15"At his return, having received the authority to be king, he summoned those slaves he had given the money to, so he could find out how much they had made in business. | 15When he returned after receiving the kingdom, he summoned these slaves to whom he had given the money. He wanted to know how much they had earned by trading. |
| 16The first came forward and said, Master, your mina has earned 10 more minas.' | 16So the first one came before him and said, 'Sir, your mina has made ten minas more.' |
| 17"Well done, good slave!' he told him. Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, have authority over 10 towns.' | 17And the king said to him, 'Well done, good slave! Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, you will have authority over ten cities.' |
| 18"The second came and said, Master, your mina has made five minas.' | 18Then the second one came and said, 'Sir, your mina has made five minas.' |
| 19"So he said to him, You will be over five towns.' | 19So the king said to him, 'And you are to be over five cities.' |
| 20"And another came and said, Master, here is your mina. I have kept it hidden away in a cloth | 20Then another slave came and said, 'Sir, here is your mina that I put away for safekeeping in a piece of cloth. |
| 21because I was afraid of you, for you're a tough man: you collect what you didn't deposit and reap what you didn't sow.' | 21For I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man. You withdraw what you did not deposit and reap what you did not sow.' |
| 22"He told him, I will judge you by what you have said, you evil slave! If you knew I was a tough man, collecting what I didn't deposit and reaping what I didn't sow, | 22The king said to him, 'I will judge you by your own words, you wicked slave! So you knew, did you, that I was a severe man, withdrawing what I didn't deposit and reaping what I didn't sow? |
| 23why didn't you put my money in the bank? And when I returned, I would have collected it with interest!' | 23Why then didn't you put my money in the bank, so that when I returned I could have collected it with interest?' |
| 24So he said to those standing there, Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has 10 minas.' | 24And he said to his attendants, 'Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has ten.' |
| 25"But they said to him, Master, he has 10 minas.' | 25But they said to him, 'Sir, he has ten minas already!' |
| 26"I tell you, that to everyone who has, more will be given; and from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away. | 26I tell you that everyone who has will be given more, but from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. |
| 27But bring here these enemies of mine, who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter them in my presence.'" | 27But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be their king, bring them here and slaughter them in front of me!'" |
| 28When He had said these things, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. | 28After Jesus had said this, he continued on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. |

| 39Some of the Pharisees from the crowd told Him, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples." | 39But some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples." |
| 40He answered, "I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out!" | 40He answered, "I tell you, if they keep silent, the very stones will cry out!" |
| 41As He approached and saw the city, He wept over it, | 41Now when Jesus approached and saw the city, he wept over it, |

| 45He went into the temple complex and began to throw out those who were selling, | 45Then Jesus entered the temple courts and began to drive out those who were selling things there, |

| 47Every day He was teaching in the temple complex. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were looking for a way to destroy Him, | 47Jesus was teaching daily in the temple courts. The chief priests and the experts in the law and the prominent leaders among the people were seeking to assassinate him, |
| 48but they could not find a way to do it, because all the people were captivated by what they heard. | 48but they could not find a way to do it, for all the people hung on his words. |
