Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, and make his deeds known among the people.1Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; proclaim his deeds among the peoples.
Sing to him! Praise him! Declare all his awesome deeds!2Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell about all his wondrous works!
Exult in his holy name; let all those who seek the LORD rejoice!3Honor his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his face continually.4Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.
Remember his awesome deeds that he has done, his wonders and the judgments he declared.5Remember the wondrous works he has done, his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced,
You descendants of Abraham, his servant, You children of Jacob, his chosen ones.6you offspring of Abraham his servant, Jacob's descendants--his chosen ones.
He is the LORD our God; his judgments extend to the entire earth.7He is the LORD our God; his judgments govern the whole earth.
He remembers his eternal covenant— every promise he made for a thousand generations,8He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he ordained for a thousand generations--
like the covenant he made with Abraham, and his promise to Isaac.9the covenant he made with Abraham, swore to Isaac,
He presented it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant.10and confirmed to Jacob as a decree and to Israel as a permanent covenant:
He said: "I will give Canaan to you as the allotted portion that is your inheritance."11"I will give the land of Canaan to you as your inherited portion."
When the Hebrews were few in number—so very few— and were sojourners in it,12When they were few in number, very few indeed, and resident aliens in Canaan,
they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. 13wandering from nation to nation and from one kingdom to another,
He did not allow anyone to oppress them, or any kings to reprove them.14he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their behalf:
"Don't touch my anointed or hurt my prophets!"15"Do not touch my anointed ones, or harm my prophets."
He declared a famine on the land; destroying the entire food supply. 16He called down famine against the land and destroyed the entire food supply.
He sent a man before them— Joseph, who had been sold as a slave.17He had sent a man ahead of them--Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
They bound his feet with fetters and placed an iron collar on his neck, 18They hurt his feet with shackles; his neck was put in an iron collar.
until the time his prediction came true, as the word of the LORD refined him.19Until the time his prediction came true, the word of the LORD tested him.
He sent a king who released him, a ruler of people who set him free.20The king sent for him and released him; the ruler of peoples set him free.
He made him the master over his household, the manager of all his possessions—21He made him master of his household, ruler over all his possessions--
to discipline his rulers at will and make his elders wise.22binding his officials at will and instructing his elders.
Then Israel came to Egypt; indeed, Jacob lived in the land of Ham. 23Then Israel went to Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham.
He caused his people to multiply greatly; and be more numerous than their enemies.24The LORD made his people very fruitful; he made them more numerous than their foes,
He caused them to hate his people and to deceive his servants.25whose hearts he turned to hate his people and to deal deceptively with his servants.
He sent his servant Moses, along with Aaron, whom he had chosen.26He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen.
They performed his signs among them, his wonders in the land of Ham. 27They performed his miraculous signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.
He sent darkness, and it became dark. Did they not rebel against his words?28He sent darkness, and it became dark--for did they not defy his commands?
He turned their water into blood, so that the fish died.29He turned their water into blood and caused their fish to die.
Their land swarmed with frogs even to the chambers of their kings.30Their land was overrun with frogs, even in their royal chambers.
He spoke, and a swarm of insects invaded their land. 31He spoke, and insects came--gnats throughout their country.
He sent hail instead of rain, and lightning throughout their land.32He gave them hail for rain, and lightning throughout their land.
It destroyed their vines and their figs, breaking trees throughout their country. 33He struck their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their territory.
Then he commanded the locust to come— grasshoppers without number.34He spoke, and locusts came--young locusts without number.
They consumed every green plant in their land, and devoured the fruit of their soil.35They devoured all the vegetation in their land and consumed the produce of their land.
He struck down every firstborn in their land, the first fruits of all their progeny.36He struck all the firstborn in their land, all their first progeny.
Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled.37Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled.
The Egyptians rejoiced when they left, because fear of Israel descended on them.38Egypt was glad when they left, for the dread of Israel had fallen on them.
He spread out a cloud for a cover, and fire for light at night.39He spread a cloud as a covering and gave a fire to light up the night.
Israel asked, and quail came; food from heaven satisfied them.40They asked, and he brought quail and satisfied them with bread from heaven.
He opened a rock, and water gushed out flowing like a river in the desert.41He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a stream in the desert.
Indeed, he remembered his sacred promise to his servant Abraham.42For he remembered his holy promise to Abraham his servant.
He led his people out with gladness, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.43He brought his people out with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.
He gave to them the land of nations; they inherited the labor of other people44He gave them the lands of the nations, and they inherited what other peoples had worked for.
so they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Hallelujah!45All this happened so that they might keep his statutes and obey his instructions. Hallelujah!
