Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,1Γνωρίζω δὲ ὑμῖν ἀδελφοί τὸ εὐαγγέλιον εὐηγγελισάμην ὑμῖν καὶ παρελάβετε ἐν καὶ ἑστήκατε
by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.2δι’ οὗ καὶ σῴζεσθε τίνι λόγῳ εὐηγγελισάμην ὑμῖν εἰ κατέχετε ἐκτὸς εἰ μὴ εἰκῇ ἐπιστεύσατε
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,3Παρέδωκα γὰρ ὑμῖν ἐν πρώτοις καὶ παρέλαβον ὅτι Χριστὸς ἀπέθανεν ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν κατὰ τὰς γραφάς
and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,4καὶ ὅτι ἐτάφη καὶ ὅτι ἐγήγερται τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ κατὰ τὰς γραφάς
and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.5καὶ ὅτι ὤφθη Κηφᾷ εἶτα τοῖς δώδεκα
After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;6ἔπειτα ὤφθη ἐπάνω πεντακοσίοις ἀδελφοῖς ἐφάπαξ ἐξ ὧν οἱ πλείονες μένουσιν ἕως ἄρτι τινὲς δὲ ἐκοιμήθησαν
then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;7ἔπειτα ὤφθη Ἰακώβῳ εἶτα τοῖς ἀποστόλοις πᾶσιν
and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.8ἔσχατον δὲ πάντων ὡσπερεὶ τῷ ἐκτρώματι ὤφθη κἀμοί
For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.9Ἐγὼ γάρ εἰμι ἐλάχιστος τῶν ἀποστόλων ὃς οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς καλεῖσθαι ἀπόστολος διότι ἐδίωξα τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.10χάριτι δὲ Θεοῦ εἰμι εἰμι καὶ χάρις αὐτοῦ εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ κενὴ ἐγενήθη ἀλλὰ περισσότερον αὐτῶν πάντων ἐκοπίασα οὐκ ἐγὼ δὲ ἀλλὰ χάρις τοῦ Θεοῦ ‹ἡ› σὺν ἐμοί
Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.11εἴτε οὖν ἐγὼ εἴτε ἐκεῖνοι οὕτως κηρύσσομεν καὶ οὕτως ἐπιστεύσατε
Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?12Εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς κηρύσσεται ὅτι ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγήγερται πῶς λέγουσιν ἐν ὑμῖν τινες ὅτι ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν
But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised;13εἰ δὲ ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται
and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.14εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται κενὸν ἄρα [καὶ] τὸ κήρυγμα ἡμῶν κενὴ καὶ πίστις ὑμῶν
Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.15εὑρισκόμεθα δὲ καὶ ψευδομάρτυρες τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅτι ἐμαρτυρήσαμεν κατὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅτι ἤγειρεν τὸν Χριστόν ὃν οὐκ ἤγειρεν εἴπερ ἄρα νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται
For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;16Εἰ γὰρ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται
and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.17εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται ματαία πίστις ὑμῶν (ἐστίν) ἔτι ἐστὲ ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν
Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.18ἄρα καὶ οἱ κοιμηθέντες ἐν Χριστῷ ἀπώλοντο
If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.19εἰ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ταύτῃ ἐν Χριστῷ ἠλπικότες ἐσμὲν μόνον ἐλεεινότεροι πάντων ἀνθρώπων ἐσμέν
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.20Νυνὶ δὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀπαρχὴ τῶν κεκοιμημένων
For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.21ἐπειδὴ γὰρ δι’ ἀνθρώπου θάνατος καὶ δι’ ἀνθρώπου ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.22ὥσπερ γὰρ ἐν τῷ Ἀδὰμ πάντες ἀποθνήσκουσιν οὕτως καὶ ἐν τῷ Χριστῷ πάντες ζωοποιηθήσονται
But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming,23Ἕκαστος δὲ ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ τάγματι ἀπαρχὴ Χριστός ἔπειτα οἱ τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ
then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.24εἶτα τὸ τέλος ὅταν παραδιδῷ* τὴν βασιλείαν τῷ Θεῷ καὶ Πατρί ὅταν καταργήσῃ πᾶσαν ἀρχὴν καὶ πᾶσαν ἐξουσίαν καὶ δύναμιν
For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.25δεῖ γὰρ αὐτὸν βασιλεύειν ἄχρι οὗ θῇ πάντας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ
The last enemy that will be abolished is death.26ἔσχατος ἐχθρὸς καταργεῖται θάνατος
For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.27Πάντα γὰρ Ὑπέταξεν ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ ὅταν δὲ εἴπῃ ὅτι πάντα ὑποτέτακται δῆλον ὅτι ἐκτὸς τοῦ ὑποτάξαντος αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα
When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.28ὅταν δὲ ὑποταγῇ αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα τότε καὶ αὐτὸς Υἱὸς ὑποταγήσεται τῷ ὑποτάξαντι αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα ἵνα Θεὸς [τὰ] πάντα ἐν πᾶσιν
Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?29Ἐπεὶ τί ποιήσουσιν οἱ βαπτιζόμενοι ὑπὲρ τῶν νεκρῶν εἰ ὅλως νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται τί καὶ βαπτίζονται ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν
Why are we also in danger every hour?30τί καὶ ἡμεῖς κινδυνεύομεν πᾶσαν ὥραν
I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.31καθ’ ἡμέραν ἀποθνῄσκω νὴ τὴν ὑμετέραν καύχησιν ἀδελφοί ἣν ἔχω ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ Κυρίῳ ἡμῶν
If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, LET US EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE.32εἰ κατὰ ἄνθρωπον ἐθηριομάχησα ἐν Ἐφέσῳ τί μοι τὸ ὄφελος εἰ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται Φάγωμεν καὶ πίωμεν αὔριον γὰρ ἀποθνήσκομεν
Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."33Μὴ πλανᾶσθε Φθείρουσιν ἤθη χρηστὰ ὁμιλίαι κακαί
Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.34ἐκνήψατε δικαίως καὶ μὴ ἁμαρτάνετε ἀγνωσίαν γὰρ Θεοῦ τινες ἔχουσιν πρὸς ἐντροπὴν ὑμῖν λαλῶ
But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?"35Ἀλλὰ ἐρεῖ τις Πῶς ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροί ποίῳ δὲ σώματι ἔρχονται
You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies;36ἄφρων σὺ σπείρεις οὐ ζωοποιεῖται ἐὰν μὴ ἀποθάνῃ
and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else.37καὶ σπείρεις οὐ τὸ σῶμα τὸ γενησόμενον σπείρεις ἀλλὰ γυμνὸν κόκκον εἰ τύχοι σίτου τινος τῶν λοιπῶν
But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own.38 δὲ Θεὸς δίδωσιν αὐτῷ σῶμα καθὼς ἠθέλησεν καὶ ἑκάστῳ τῶν σπερμάτων ἴδιον σῶμα
All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish.39Οὐ πᾶσα σὰρξ αὐτὴ σάρξ ἀλλὰ ἄλλη μὲν ἀνθρώπων ἄλλη δὲ σὰρξ κτηνῶν ἄλλη δὲ σὰρξ πτηνῶν ἄλλη δὲ ἰχθύων
There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.40καὶ σώματα ἐπουράνια καὶ σώματα ἐπίγεια ἀλλὰ ἑτέρα μὲν τῶν ἐπουρανίων δόξα ἑτέρα δὲ τῶν ἐπιγείων
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.41ἄλλη δόξα ἡλίου καὶ ἄλλη δόξα σελήνης καὶ ἄλλη δόξα ἀστέρων ἀστὴρ γὰρ ἀστέρος διαφέρει ἐν δόξῃ
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body;42Οὕτως καὶ ἀνάστασις τῶν νεκρῶν σπείρεται ἐν φθορᾷ ἐγείρεται ἐν ἀφθαρσίᾳ
it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;43σπείρεται ἐν ἀτιμίᾳ ἐγείρεται ἐν δόξῃ σπείρεται ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ ἐγείρεται ἐν δυνάμει
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.44σπείρεται σῶμα ψυχικόν ἐγείρεται σῶμα πνευματικόν Εἰ ἔστιν σῶμα ψυχικόν ἔστιν καὶ πνευματικόν
So also it is written, "The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.45οὕτως καὶ γέγραπται Ἐγένετο πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος Ἀδὰμ εἰς ψυχὴν ζῶσαν ἔσχατος Ἀδὰμ εἰς πνεῦμα ζωοποιοῦν
However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual.46Ἀλλ’ οὐ πρῶτον τὸ πνευματικὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ ψυχικόν ἔπειτα τὸ πνευματικόν
The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven.47 πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος ἐκ γῆς χοϊκός δεύτερος ἄνθρωπος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ
As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly.48οἷος χοϊκός τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ χοϊκοί καὶ οἷος ἐπουράνιος τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ ἐπουράνιοι
Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.49καὶ καθὼς ἐφορέσαμεν τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ χοϊκοῦ φορέσομεν καὶ τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ ἐπουρανίου
Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.50Τοῦτο δέ φημι ἀδελφοί ὅτι σὰρξ καὶ αἷμα βασιλείαν Θεοῦ κληρονομῆσαι οὐ δύναται οὐδὲ φθορὰ τὴν ἀφθαρσίαν κληρονομεῖ
Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,51Ἰδοὺ μυστήριον ὑμῖν λέγω πάντες οὐ κοιμηθησόμεθα πάντες δὲ ἀλλαγησόμεθα
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.52ἐν ἀτόμῳ ἐν ῥιπῇ ὀφθαλμοῦ ἐν τῇ ἐσχάτῃ σάλπιγγι σαλπίσει γάρ καὶ οἱ νεκροὶ ἐγερθήσονται ἄφθαρτοι καὶ ἡμεῖς ἀλλαγησόμεθα
For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.53δεῖ γὰρ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι ἀφθαρσίαν καὶ τὸ θνητὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι ἀθανασίαν
But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory.54Ὅταν δὲ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσηται (τὴν) ἀφθαρσίαν καὶ τὸ θνητὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσηται ἀθανασίαν τότε γενήσεται λόγος γεγραμμένος Κατεπόθη θάνατος εἰς νῖκος
"O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?"55Ποῦ σου θάνατε τὸ νῖκος ποῦ σου θάνατε τὸ κέντρον
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;56Τὸ δὲ κέντρον τοῦ θανάτου ἁμαρτία δὲ δύναμις τῆς ἁμαρτίας νόμος
but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.57τῷ δὲ Θεῷ χάρις τῷ διδόντι ἡμῖν τὸ νῖκος διὰ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.58Ὥστε ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί ἑδραῖοι γίνεσθε ἀμετακίνητοι περισσεύοντες ἐν τῷ ἔργῳ τοῦ Κυρίου πάντοτε εἰδότες ὅτι κόπος ὑμῶν οὐκ ἔστιν κενὸς ἐν Κυρίῳ
