Psalm 89
NET Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
A well-written song by Ethan the Ezrachite. I will sing continually about the LORD's faithful deeds; to future generations I will proclaim your faithfulness. 1I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
For I say, "Loyal love is permanently established; in the skies you set up your faithfulness." 2For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.”
The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant: 3You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant:
I will give you an eternal dynasty and establish your throne throughout future generations.'" (Selah) 4‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Selah
O LORD, the heavens praise your amazing deeds, as well as your faithfulness in the angelic assembly. 5Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones!
For who in the skies can compare to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings, 6For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD,
a God who is honored in the great angelic assembly, and more awesome than all who surround him? 7a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him?
O LORD, sovereign God! Who is strong like you, O LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you. 8O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you?
You rule over the proud sea. When its waves surge, you calm them. 9You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.
You crushed the Proud One and killed it; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. 10You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
The heavens belong to you, as does the earth. You made the world and all it contains. 11The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.
You created the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name. 12The north and the south, you have created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.
Your arm is powerful, your hand strong, your right hand victorious. 13You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand.
Equity and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loyal love and faithfulness characterize your rule. 14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
How blessed are the people who worship you! O LORD, they experience your favor. 15Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face,
They rejoice in your name all day long, and are vindicated by your justice. 16who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted.
For you give them splendor and strength. By your favor we are victorious. 17For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.
For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. 18For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Then you spoke through a vision to your faithful followers and said: "I have energized a warrior; I have raised up a young man from the people. 19Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said: “I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.
I have discovered David, my servant. With my holy oil I have anointed him as king. 20I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him,
My hand will support him, and my arm will strengthen him. 21so that my hand shall be established with him; my arm also shall strengthen him.
No enemy will be able to exact tribute from him; a violent oppressor will not be able to humiliate him. 22The enemy shall not outwit him; the wicked shall not humble him.
I will crush his enemies before him; I will strike down those who hate him. 23I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him.
He will experience my faithfulness and loyal love, and by my name he will win victories. 24My faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
I will place his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers. 25I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers.
He will call out to me, 'You are my father, my God, and the protector who delivers me.' 26He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’
I will appoint him to be my firstborn son, the most exalted of the earth's kings. 27And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
I will always extend my loyal love to him, and my covenant with him is secure. 28My steadfast love I will keep for him forever, and my covenant will stand firm for him.
I will give him an eternal dynasty, and make his throne as enduring as the skies above. 29I will establish his offspring forever and his throne as the days of the heavens.
If his sons reject my law and disobey my regulations, 30If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules,
if they break my rules and do not keep my commandments, 31if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments,
I will punish their rebellion by beating them with a club, their sin by inflicting them with bruises. 32then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes,
But I will not remove my loyal love from him, nor be unfaithful to my promise. 33but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness.
I will not break my covenant or go back on what I promised. 34I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness, I will never deceive David. 35Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David.
His dynasty will last forever. His throne will endure before me, like the sun, 36His offspring shall endure forever, his throne as long as the sun before me.
it will remain stable, like the moon, his throne will endure like the skies." (Selah) 37Like the moon it shall be established forever, a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah
But you have spurned and rejected him; you are angry with your chosen king. 38But now you have cast off and rejected; you are full of wrath against your anointed.
You have repudiated your covenant with your servant; you have thrown his crown to the ground. 39You have renounced the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown in the dust.
You have broken down all his walls; you have made his strongholds a heap of ruins. 40You have breached all his walls; you have laid his strongholds in ruins.
All who pass by have robbed him; he has become an object of disdain to his neighbors. 41All who pass by plunder him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.
You have allowed his adversaries to be victorious, and all his enemies to rejoice. 42You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.
You turn back his sword from the adversary, and have not sustained him in battle. 43You have also turned back the edge of his sword, and you have not made him stand in battle.
You have brought to an end his splendor, and have knocked his throne to the ground. 44You have made his splendor to cease and cast his throne to the ground.
You have cut short his youth, and have covered him with shame. (Selah) 45You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah
How long, O LORD, will this last? Will you remain hidden forever? Will your anger continue to burn like fire? 46How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?
Take note of my brief lifespan! Why do you make all people so mortal? 47Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man!
No man can live on without experiencing death, or deliver his life from the power of Sheol. (Selah) 48What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah
Where are your earlier faithful deeds, O Lord, the ones performed in accordance with your reliable oath to David? 49Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, which by your faithfulness you swore to David?
Take note, O Lord, of the way your servants are taunted, and of how I must bear so many insults from people! 50Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked, and how I bear in my heart the insults of all the many nations,
Your enemies, O LORD, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps. 51with which your enemies mock, O LORD, with which they mock the footsteps of your anointed.
The LORD deserves praise forevermore! We agree! We agree! 52Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
