1Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And sons were born to them after the flood.1These are the family records of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They also had sons after the flood.
2The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.2Japheth's sons: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.3Gomer's sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.4And Javan's sons: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5From these the coastland peoples of the Gentiles were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.5The coastland peoples spread out into their lands. These are Japheth's sons by their clans, in their nations. Each group had its own language.
6The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.6Ham's sons: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.
7The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabtechah; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.7Cush's sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And Raamah's sons: Sheba and Dedan.
8Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth.8Cush fathered Nimrod, who was the first powerful man on earth.
9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.”9He was a powerful hunter in the sight of the LORD. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a powerful hunter in the sight of the LORD."
10And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.10His kingdom started with Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
11From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,11From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah,
12and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (that is the principal city).12and Resen, between Nineveh and the great city Calah.
13Mizraim begot Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,13Mizraim fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,
14Pathrusim, and Casluhim (from whom came the Philistines and Caphtorim).14Pathrusim, Casluhim (the Philistines came from them), and Caphtorim.
15Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth;15Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn, then Heth,
16the Jebusite, the Amorite, and the Girgashite;16the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
17the Hivite, the Arkite, and the Sinite;17the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
18the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were dispersed.18the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the Canaanite clans scattered.
19And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.19The Canaanite border went from Sidon going toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and going toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim as far as Lasha.
20These were the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands and in their nations.20These are Ham's sons, by their clans, according to their languages, in their own lands and their nations.
21And children were born also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder.21And Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had sons. Shem was the father of all the sons of Eber.
22The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.22Shem's sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.
23The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.23Aram's sons: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24Arphaxad begot Salah, and Salah begot Eber.24Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.
25To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.25Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg, for during his days the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.
26Joktan begot Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,26And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's sons.
30And their dwelling place was from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.30Their settlements extended from Mesha to Sephar, the eastern hill country.
31These were the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands, according to their nations.31These are Shem's sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations.
32These were the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations, in their nations; and from these the nations were divided on the earth after the flood.32These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their family records, in their nations. The nations on earth spread out from these after the flood.
