1Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And sons were born to them after the flood.1These are the records of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, to whom descendants were born after the flood.
2The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.2Japheth's descendants included Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.3Gomer's descendants included Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.4Javan's descendants included Elisha, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim,
5From these the coastland peoples of the Gentiles were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.5from whom the coastal peoples spread into their own lands and nations, each with their own language and family groups.
6The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.6Ham's descendants included Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.
7The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabtechah; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.7Cush's descendants included Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. Raamah's descendants included Sheba and Dedan.
8Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth.8Cush fathered Nimrod, who became the first fearless leader throughout the land.
9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.”9He became a fearless hunter in defiance of the LORD. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a fearless hunter in defiance of the LORD."
10And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.10His kingdom began in the region of Shinar with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh.
11From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,11From there he went north to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, and Calah,
12and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (that is the principal city).12along with Resen, which was located between Nineveh and the great city of Calah.
13Mizraim begot Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,13Egypt fathered the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites,
14Pathrusim, and Casluhim (from whom came the Philistines and Caphtorim).14the Pathrusites, the Casluhites (from which came the Philistines), and the Caphtorites.
15Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth;15Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn, along with the Hittites,
16the Jebusite, the Amorite, and the Girgashite;16the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
17the Hivite, the Arkite, and the Sinite;17the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
18the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were dispersed.18the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Later, the Canaanite families were widely scattered.
19And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.19The Canaanite border extended south from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and east toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
20These were the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands and in their nations.20These are Ham's descendants, listed by their families, each with their own lands, language, and family groups.
21And children were born also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder.21Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had descendants. Shem was the father of the descendants of Eber.
22The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.22Shem's sons included Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.
23The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.23Aram's descendants included Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24Arphaxad begot Salah, and Salah begot Eber.24Arpachshad fathered Cainan, Cainan fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.
25To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.25To Eber were born two sons. One was named Peleg, because the earth was divided during his lifetime. His brother was named Joktan.
26Joktan begot Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,26Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's descendants.
30And their dwelling place was from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.30Their settlements extended from Mesha towards Sephar, the eastern hill country.
31These were the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands, according to their nations.31These are Shem's descendants, listed by their families, each with their own lands, language, and family groups.
32These were the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations, in their nations; and from these the nations were divided on the earth after the flood.32These are the families of Noah's sons, according to their records, by their nations. From these people, the nations on the earth spread out after the flood.
