He was sole governor of the area.
Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and rejoicing.20The people of Judah and Israel were as innumerable as the sand on the seashore; they had plenty to eat and drink and were happy.
So Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.21Solomon ruled all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms paid tribute as Solomon's subjects throughout his lifetime.
Now Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty kors of fine flour, sixty kors of meal,22Each day Solomon's royal court consumed thirty cors of finely milled flour, sixty cors of cereal,
ten fatted oxen, twenty oxen from the pastures, and one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fatted fowl.23ten calves fattened in the stall, twenty calves from the pasture, and a hundred sheep, not to mention rams, gazelles, deer, and well-fed birds.
For he had dominion over all the region on this side of the River from Tiphsah even to Gaza, namely over all the kings on this side of the River; and he had peace on every side all around him.24His royal court was so large because he ruled over all the kingdoms west of the Euphrates River from Tiphsah to Gaza; he was at peace with all his neighbors.
And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, each man under his vine and his fig tree, from Dan as far as Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.25All the people of Judah and Israel had security; everyone from Dan to Beer Sheba enjoyed the produce of their vines and fig trees throughout Solomon's lifetime.
Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.26Solomon had 4,000 stalls for his chariot horses and 12,000 horses.
And these governors, each man in his month, provided food for King Solomon and for all who came to King Solomon’s table. There was no lack in their supply.27The district governors acquired supplies for King Solomon and all who ate in his royal palace. Each was responsible for one month in the year; they made sure nothing was lacking.
They also brought barley and straw to the proper place, for the horses and steeds, each man according to his charge.28Each one also brought to the assigned location his quota of barley and straw for the various horses.
And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore.29God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment; the breadth of his understanding was as infinite as the sand on the seashore.
Thus Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt.30Solomon was wiser than all the men of the east and all the sages of Egypt.
For he was wiser than all men—than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all the surrounding nations.31He was wiser than any man, including Ethan the Ezrahite or Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol. He was famous in all the neighboring nations.
He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were one thousand and five.32He composed 3,000 proverbs and 1,005 songs.
Also he spoke of trees, from the cedar tree of Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall; he spoke also of animals, of birds, of creeping things, and of fish.33He produced manuals on botany, describing every kind of plant, from the cedars of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows on walls. He also produced manuals on biology, describing animals, birds, insects, and fish.
And men of all nations, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to hear the wisdom of Solomon.34People from all nations came to hear Solomon's display of wisdom; they came from all the kings of the earth who heard about his wisdom.
