New King James VersionNew Living Translation
Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!1Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.
Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works!2Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.
Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!3Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD.
Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore!4Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.
Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,5Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given,
O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!6you children of his servant Abraham, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones.
He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.7He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land.
He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,8He always stands by his covenant— the commitment he made to a thousand generations.
The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac,9This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac.
And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant,10He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant:
Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan As the allotment of your inheritance,”11“I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.”
When they were few in number, Indeed very few, and strangers in it.12He said this when they were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan.
When they went from one nation to another, From one kingdom to another people,13They wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.
He permitted no one to do them wrong; Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,14Yet he did not let anyone oppress them. He warned kings on their behalf:
Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.”15“Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.”
Moreover He called for a famine in the land; He destroyed all the provision of bread.16He called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply.
He sent a man before them— Joseph—who was sold as a slave.17Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them— Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons.18They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar.
Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the LORD tested him.19Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph’s character.
The king sent and released him, The ruler of the people let him go free.20Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door.
He made him lord of his house, And ruler of all his possessions,21Joseph was put in charge of all the king’s household; he became ruler over all the king’s possessions.
To bind his princes at his pleasure, And teach his elders wisdom.22He could instruct the king’s aides as he pleased and teach the king’s advisers.
Israel also came into Egypt, And Jacob dwelt in the land of Ham.23Then Israel arrived in Egypt; Jacob lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham.
He increased His people greatly, And made them stronger than their enemies.24And the LORD multiplied the people of Israel until they became too mighty for their enemies.
He turned their heart to hate His people, To deal craftily with His servants.25Then he turned the Egyptians against the Israelites, and they plotted against the LORD’s servants.
He sent Moses His servant, And Aaron whom He had chosen.26But the LORD sent his servant Moses, along with Aaron, whom he had chosen.
They performed His signs among them, And wonders in the land of Ham.27They performed miraculous signs among the Egyptians, and wonders in the land of Ham.
He sent darkness, and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His word.28The LORD blanketed Egypt in darkness, for they had defied his commands to let his people go.
He turned their waters into blood, And killed their fish.29He turned their water into blood, poisoning all the fish.
Their land abounded with frogs, Even in the chambers of their kings.30Then frogs overran the land and even invaded the king’s bedrooms.
He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, And lice in all their territory.31When the LORD spoke, flies descended on the Egyptians, and gnats swarmed across Egypt.
He gave them hail for rain, And flaming fire in their land.32He sent them hail instead of rain, and lightning flashed over the land.
He struck their vines also, and their fig trees, And splintered the trees of their territory.33He ruined their grapevines and fig trees and shattered all the trees.
He spoke, and locusts came, Young locusts without number,34He spoke, and hordes of locusts came— young locusts beyond number.
And ate up all the vegetation in their land, And devoured the fruit of their ground.35They ate up everything green in the land, destroying all the crops in their fields.
He also destroyed all the firstborn in their land, The first of all their strength.36Then he killed the oldest son in each Egyptian home, the pride and joy of each family.
He also brought them out with silver and gold, And there was none feeble among His tribes.37The LORD brought his people out of Egypt, loaded with silver and gold; and not one among the tribes of Israel even stumbled.
Egypt was glad when they departed, For the fear of them had fallen upon them.38Egypt was glad when they were gone, for they feared them greatly.
He spread a cloud for a covering, And fire to give light in the night.39The LORD spread a cloud above them as a covering and gave them a great fire to light the darkness.
The people asked, and He brought quail, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven.40They asked for meat, and he sent them quail; he satisfied their hunger with manna—bread from heaven.
He opened the rock, and water gushed out; It ran in the dry places like a river.41He split open a rock, and water gushed out to form a river through the dry wasteland.
For He remembered His holy promise, And Abraham His servant.42For he remembered his sacred promise to his servant Abraham.
He brought out His people with joy, His chosen ones with gladness.43So he brought his people out of Egypt with joy, his chosen ones with rejoicing.
He gave them the lands of the Gentiles, And they inherited the labor of the nations,44He gave his people the lands of pagan nations, and they harvested crops that others had planted.
That they might observe His statutes And keep His laws. Praise the LORD!45All this happened so they would follow his decrees and obey his instructions. Praise the LORD!
