A Tent for the Ark
(2 Samuel 6:17–19)

1 וַיָּבִ֙יאוּ֙ (And they brought) אֶת־ (-) אֲר֣וֹן (the ark) הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים (of God) וַיַּצִּ֣יגוּ (and set) אֹת֔וֹ (it) בְּת֣וֹךְ (in the midst) הָאֹ֔הֶל (of the tabernacle) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) נָֽטָה־ (had erected) ל֖וֹ (for it) דָּוִ֑יד (David), וַיַּקְרִ֛יבוּ (and they offered) עֹל֥וֹת (burnt offerings) וּשְׁלָמִ֖ים (and peace offerings) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ (God). 2 וַיְכַ֣ל (And had finished) דָּוִ֔יד (David) מֵהַעֲל֥וֹת (offering) הָעֹלָ֖ה (the burnt offerings) וְהַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים (and the peace offerings), וַיְבָ֥רֶךְ (and he blessed) אֶת־ (-) הָעָ֖ם (the people) בְּשֵׁ֥ם (in the name) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 3 וַיְחַלֵּק֙ (And he distributed) לְכָל־ (to) אִ֣ישׁ (each man) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), מֵאִ֖ישׁ (from man) וְעַד־ (and to) אִשָּׁ֑ה (woman), לְאִישׁ֙ (to everyone) כִּכַּר־ (a cake) לֶ֔חֶם (of bread), וְאֶשְׁפָּ֖ר (and a date cake), וַאֲשִׁישָֽׁה׃ (and a raisin cake).

4 וַיִּתֵּ֞ן (And he put) לִפְנֵ֨י (before the face of) אֲר֧וֹן (the ark) יְהוָ֛ה (of YHWH) מִן־ (some) הַלְוִיִּ֖ם (of the Levites) מְשָׁרְתִ֑ים (to minister), וּלְהַזְכִּיר֙ (and to commemorate), וּלְהוֹד֣וֹת (and to thank), וּלְהַלֵּ֔ל (and to praise) לַיהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֥י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃פ (of Israel): 5 אָסָ֥ף (Asaph was) הָרֹ֖אשׁ (the chief), וּמִשְׁנֵ֣הוּ (and next to him) זְכַרְיָ֑ה (Zechariah), יְעִיאֵ֡ל (Jeiel), וּשְׁמִֽירָמ֡וֹת (and Shemiramoth), וִֽיחִיאֵ֡ל (and Jehiel), וּמַתִּתְיָ֡ה (and Mattithiah), וֶאֱלִיאָ֡ב (and Eliab), וּבְנָיָהוּ֩ (and Benaiah), וְעֹבֵ֨ד (and Obed-) אֱדֹ֜ם (edom), וִֽיעִיאֵ֗ל (and Jeiel), בִּכְלֵ֤י (with) נְבָלִים֙ (stringed instruments) וּבְכִנֹּר֔וֹת (and harps); וְאָסָ֖ף (and Asaph) בַּֽמְצִלְתַּ֥יִם (with cymbals) מַשְׁמִֽיעַ׃ (sounded). 6 וּבְנָיָ֥הוּ (And Benaiah) וְיַחֲזִיאֵ֖ל (and Jahaziel) הַכֹּהֲנִ֑ים (the priests) בַּחֲצֹצְר֣וֹת (the trumpets) תָּמִ֔יד (regularly blew) לִפְנֵ֖י (before the face of) אֲר֥וֹן (the ark) בְּרִית־ (of the covenant) הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ (of God).

David’s Psalm of Thanksgiving
(Psalm 105:1–15)

7 בַּיּ֣וֹם (On day) הַה֗וּא (that) אָ֣ז (then) נָתַ֤ן (delivered) דָּוִיד֙ (David) בָּרֹ֔אשׁ (at the beginning) לְהֹד֖וֹת (to give thanks) לַיהוָ֑ה (YHWH) בְּיַד־ (by the hand) אָסָ֖ף (of Asaph) וְאֶחָֽיו׃פ (and his brothers):

8 הוֹד֤וּ (Give thanks) לַֽיהוָה֙ (to YHWH), קִרְא֣וּ (Call) בִשְׁמ֔וֹ (upon His name),

הוֹדִ֥יעוּ (make known) בָעַמִּ֖ים (among the peoples) עֲלִילֹתָֽיו׃ (His deeds).

9 שִׁ֤ירוּ (Sing) לוֹ֙ (to Him), זַמְּרוּ־ (sing praises) ל֔וֹ (to Him)

שִׂ֖יחוּ (tell) בְּכָל־ (of all) נִפְלְאֹתָֽיו׃ (His wonders).

10 הִֽתְהַֽלְלוּ֙ (Glory) בְּשֵׁ֣ם (in name) קָדְשׁ֔וֹ (His holy);

יִשְׂמַ֕ח (let rejoice) לֵ֖ב (the hearts) מְבַקְשֵׁ֥י (of those seeking) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

11 דִּרְשׁ֤וּ (Seek) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) וְעֻזּ֔וֹ (and His strength),

בַּקְּשׁ֥וּ (Seek) פָנָ֖יו (His face) תָּמִֽיד׃ (continually).

12 זִכְר֗וּ (Remember) נִפְלְאֹתָיו֙ (His wonders) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) עָשָׂ֔ה (He has done),

מֹפְתָ֖יו (His wonders) וּמִשְׁפְּטֵי־ (and the ordinances) פִֽיהוּ׃ (of His mouth),

13 זֶ֚רַע (O seed) יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל (of Israel) עַבְדּ֔וֹ (His servant),

בְּנֵ֥י (O sons) יַעֲקֹ֖ב (of Jacob), בְּחִירָֽיו׃ (His chosen ones).

14 ה֚וּא (He is) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ (our God);

בְּכָל־ (in all) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth) מִשְׁפָּטָֽיו׃ (are His judgments).

15 זִכְר֤וּ (Remember) לְעוֹלָם֙ (forever) בְּרִית֔וֹ (His covenant),

דָּבָ֥ר (the word) צִוָּ֖ה (He commanded) לְאֶ֥לֶף (to a thousand) דּֽוֹר׃ (generations)—

16 אֲשֶׁ֤ר (which) כָּרַת֙ (He made) אֶת־ (with) אַבְרָהָ֔ם (Abraham),

וּשְׁבוּעָת֖וֹ (and His oath) לְיִצְחָֽק׃ (to Isaac).

17 וַיַּעֲמִידֶ֤הָ (And He confirmed it) לְיַעֲקֹב֙ (to Jacob) לְחֹ֔ק (for a statute),

לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (to Israel) בְּרִ֥ית (a covenant) עוֹלָֽם׃ (everlasting),

18 לֵאמֹ֗ר (saying), לְךָ֙ (To you) אֶתֵּ֣ן (I will give) אֶֽרֶץ־ (the land) כְּנָ֔עַן (of Canaan)

חֶ֖בֶל (as the portion) נַחֲלַתְכֶֽם׃ (of your⁺ inheritance).

19 בִּֽהְיֽוֹתְכֶם֙ (When you⁺ were) מְתֵ֣י (few) מִסְפָּ֔ר (in number)

כִּמְעַ֖ט (indeed few), וְגָרִ֥ים (and sojourners) בָּֽהּ׃ (in it).

20 וַיִּֽתְהַלְּכוּ֙ (Then they wandered) מִגּ֣וֹי (from nation) אֶל־ (to) גּ֔וֹי (nation),

וּמִמַּמְלָכָ֖ה (and from a kingdom) אֶל־ (to) עַ֥ם (people) אַחֵֽר׃ (another).

21 לֹא־ (No) הִנִּ֤יחַ (He permitted) לְאִישׁ֙ (man) לְעָשְׁקָ֔ם (to oppress them),

וַיּ֥וֹכַח (and He rebuked) עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (on their behalf) מְלָכִֽים׃ (kings):

22 אַֽל־ (Not) תִּגְּעוּ֙ (do touch) בִּמְשִׁיחָ֔י (My anointed ones),

וּבִנְבִיאַ֖י (and My prophets) אַל־ (not) תָּרֵֽעוּ׃פ (do harm).

Sing to Yahweh, All the Earth
(Psalm 96:1–13)

23 שִׁ֤ירוּ (Sing) לַֽיהוָה֙ (to YHWH), כָּל־ (all) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth).

בַּשְּׂר֥וּ (Proclaim) מִיּֽוֹם־ (day) אֶל־ (after) י֖וֹם (day) יְשׁוּעָתֽוֹ׃ (His salvation).

24 סַפְּר֤וּ (Declare) בַגּוֹיִם֙ (among the nations) אֶת־ (-) כְּבוֹד֔וֹ (His glory),

בְּכָל־ (among all) הָעַמִּ֖ים (the peoples) נִפְלְאֹתָֽיו׃ (His wonders).

25 כִּי֩ (For) גָד֨וֹל (great) יְהוָ֤ה (is YHWH), וּמְהֻלָּל֙ (and to be praised) מְאֹ֔ד (greatly);

וְנוֹרָ֥א (and to be feared) ה֖וּא (He is) עַל־ (above) כָּל־ (all) אֱלֹהִֽים׃ (gods).

26 כִּ֠י (For) כָּל־ (all) אֱלֹהֵ֤י (the gods) הָעַמִּים֙ (of the peoples) אֱלִילִ֔ים (are nothing),

וַיהוָ֖ה (and YHWH) שָׁמַ֥יִם (the heavens) עָשָֽׂה׃ (made).

27 ה֤וֹד (Honor) וְהָדָר֙ (and majesty are) לְפָנָ֔יו (before Him),

עֹ֥ז (strength) וְחֶדְוָ֖ה (and joy) בִּמְקֹמֽוֹ׃ (in His place).

28 הָב֤וּ (Give) לַֽיהוָה֙ (to YHWH), מִשְׁפְּח֣וֹת (O families) עַמִּ֔ים (of peoples).

הָב֥וּ (Ascribe) לַיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) כָּב֥וֹד (glory) וָעֹֽז׃ (and strength).

29 הָב֥וּ (Ascribe) לַיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) כְּב֣וֹד (the honor) שְׁמ֑וֹ (of His name);

שְׂא֤וּ (bring) מִנְחָה֙ (an offering) וּבֹ֣אוּ (and come) לְפָנָ֔יו (before His face).

הִשְׁתַּחֲו֥וּ (Worship) לַיהוָ֖ה (YHWH) בְּהַדְרַת־ (in the beauty) קֹֽדֶשׁ׃ (of holiness);

30 חִ֤ילוּ (tremble) מִלְּפָנָיו֙ (before Him) כָּל־ (all) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth).

אַף־ (Indeed) תִּכּ֥וֹן (is firmly established) תֵּבֵ֖ל (the world);

בַּל־ (not) תִּמּֽוֹט׃ (it shall be moved).

31 יִשְׂמְח֤וּ (Let rejoice) הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ (the heavens)

וְתָגֵ֣ל (and let be glad) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth),

וְיֹאמְר֥וּ (and let them say) בַגּוֹיִ֖ם (among the nations),

יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) מָלָֽךְ׃ (reigns).

32 יִרְעַ֤ם (Let roar) הַיָּם֙ (the sea)

וּמְלוֹא֔וֹ (and all its fullness);

יַעֲלֹ֥ץ (let rejoice) הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה (the field)

וְכָל־ (and all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that is) בּֽוֹ׃ (in it).

33 אָ֥ז (Then) יְרַנְּנ֖וּ (shall rejoice) עֲצֵ֣י (the trees) הַיָּ֑עַר (of the forest) מִלִּפְנֵ֣י (before) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH),

כִּי־ (for) בָ֖א (He is coming) לִשְׁפּ֥וֹט (to judge) אֶת־ (-) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).

34 הוֹד֤וּ (Give thanks) לַיהוָה֙ (to YHWH), כִּ֣י (for) ט֔וֹב (He is good);

כִּ֥י (even to) לְעוֹלָ֖ם (forever) חַסְדּֽוֹ׃ (is His loving devotion).

35 וְאִמְר֕וּ (And say), הוֹשִׁיעֵ֙נוּ֙ (Save us), אֱלֹהֵ֣י (O God) יִשְׁעֵ֔נוּ (of our salvation),

וְקַבְּצֵ֥נוּ (and Gather us together), וְהַצִּילֵ֖נוּ (and snatch us up) מִן־ (from) הַגּוֹיִ֑ם (the Gentiles),

לְהֹדוֹת֙ (to give thanks) לְשֵׁ֣ם (to name) קָדְשֶׁ֔ךָ (Your holy),

לְהִשְׁתַּבֵּ֖חַ (to glory) בִּתְהִלָּתֶֽךָ׃ (in Your praise).

36 בָּר֤וּךְ (Blessed be) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel)

מִן־ (from) הָעוֹלָ֖ם (everlasting) וְעַ֣ד (and to) הָעֹלָ֑ם (everlasting).

וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ (And said) כָל־ (all) הָעָם֙ (the people), אָמֵ֔ן (Amen), וְהַלֵּ֖ל (and praised) לַֽיהוָֽה׃פ (YHWH).

Worship before the Ark

37 וַיַּֽעֲזָב־ (And he left) שָׁ֗ם (there) לִפְנֵי֙ (before the face of) אֲר֣וֹן (the ark) בְּרִית־ (of the covenant) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) לְאָסָ֖ף (Asaph) וּלְאֶחָ֑יו (and his brothers), לְשָׁרֵ֞ת (to minister) לִפְנֵ֧י (before the face of) הָאָר֛וֹן (the ark) תָּמִ֖יד (regularly), לִדְבַר־ (according to the matter) י֥וֹם (of a day) בְּיוֹמֽוֹ׃ (in its day), 38 וְעֹבֵ֥ד (and Obed-) אֱדֹ֛ם (edom) וַאֲחֵיהֶ֖ם (and their brothers), שִׁשִּׁ֣ים (sixty) וּשְׁמוֹנָ֑ה (and eight), וְעֹבֵ֨ד (and Obed-) אֱדֹ֧ם (edom) בֶּן־ (son) יְדִית֛וּן (of Jeduthun) וְחֹסָ֖ה (and Hosah) לְשֹׁעֲרִֽים׃ (to be gatekeepers), 39 וְאֵ֣ת׀ (and) צָד֣וֹק (Zadok) הַכֹּהֵ֗ן (the priest) וְאֶחָיו֙ (and his brothers) הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים (the priests) לִפְנֵ֖י (before) מִשְׁכַּ֣ן (the tabernacle) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH) בַּבָּמָ֖ה (at the high place) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that was) בְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃ (in Gibeon), 40 לְֽהַעֲלוֹת֩ (to offer) עֹל֨וֹת (burnt offerings) לַיהוָ֜ה (to YHWH) עַל־ (on) מִזְבַּ֧ח (the altar) הָעֹלָ֛ה (of the burnt offering) תָּמִ֖יד (regularly) לַבֹּ֣קֶר (the morning) וְלָעָ֑רֶב (and the evening), וּלְכָל־ (and for all) הַכָּתוּב֙ (that is written) בְּתוֹרַ֣ת (in the Law) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) צִוָּ֖ה (He commanded) עַל־ (upon) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel), 41 וְעִמָּהֶם֙ (and with them) הֵימָ֣ן (Heman) וִֽידוּת֔וּן (and Jeduthun) וּשְׁאָר֙ (and the rest) הַבְּרוּרִ֔ים (of those chosen) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) נִקְּב֖וּ (were designated) בְּשֵׁמ֑וֹת (by name) לְהֹדוֹת֙ (to give thanks) לַֽיהוָ֔ה (to YHWH), כִּ֥י (because) לְעוֹלָ֖ם (Forever) חַסְדּֽוֹ׃ (is His loving devotion).

42 וְעִמָּהֶם֩ (And with them were) הֵימָ֨ן (Heman) וִֽידוּת֜וּן (and Jeduthun) חֲצֹצְר֤וֹת (with trumpets) וּמְצִלְתַּ֙יִם֙ (and cymbals) לְמַשְׁמִיעִ֔ים (to sound aloud), וּכְלֵ֖י (and the instruments) שִׁ֣יר (of the song) הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים (of God). וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) יְדוּת֖וּן (of Jeduthun) לַשָּֽׁעַר׃ (were the gatekeepers).

43 וַיֵּלְכ֥וּ (And departed) כָל־ (all) הָעָ֖ם (the people), אִ֣ישׁ (every man) לְבֵית֑וֹ (to his house), וַיִּסֹּ֥ב (and returned) דָּוִ֖יד (David) לְבָרֵ֥ךְ (to bless) אֶת־ (-) בֵּיתֽוֹ׃פ (his house).
