Laws for Sin Offerings
(Leviticus 5:1–13; Leviticus 6:24–30)

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  דַּבֵּ֞ר (Speak) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֘ל (of Israel), לֵאמֹר֒ (saying): נֶ֗פֶשׁ (A soul) כִּֽי־ (when) תֶחֱטָ֤א (sins) בִשְׁגָגָה֙ (in error) מִכֹּל֙ (from any) מִצְוֺ֣ת (of the commandments) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which) לֹ֣א (not) תֵעָשֶׂ֑ינָה (are to be done), וְעָשָׂ֕ה (and he does) מֵאַחַ֖ת (from one) מֵהֵֽנָּה׃ (of them).

3  אִ֣ם (If) הַכֹּהֵ֧ן (the priest) הַמָּשִׁ֛יחַ (the anointed) יֶחֱטָ֖א (sins), לְאַשְׁמַ֣ת (bringing guilt on) הָעָ֑ם (the people), וְהִקְרִ֡יב (then he shall bring near) עַ֣ל (for) חַטָּאתוֹ֩ (his sin) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) חָטָ֜א (he has sinned) פַּ֣ר (a young bull) בֶּן־ (a son) בָּקָ֥ר (of the herd) תָּמִ֛ים (unblemished), לַיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) לְחַטָּֽאת׃ (for a sin offering). 4  וְהֵבִ֣יא (And he shall bring) אֶת־ (-) הַפָּ֗ר (the bull) אֶל־ (to) פֶּ֛תַח (the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵ֖ד (of Meeting) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH) וְסָמַ֤ךְ (and he shall lay) אֶת־ (-) יָדוֹ֙ (his hand) עַל־ (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (head), הַפָּ֔ר (of the bull) וְשָׁחַ֥ט (and he shall slaughter) אֶת־ (-) הַפָּ֖ר (the bull) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 5  וְלָקַ֛ח (And shall take) הַכֹּהֵ֥ן (the priest) הַמָּשִׁ֖יחַ (the anointed) מִדַּ֣ם (from the blood) הַפָּ֑ר (of the bull) וְהֵבִ֥יא (and he shall bring) אֹת֖וֹ (it) אֶל־ (to) אֹ֥הֶל (the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting), 6  וְטָבַ֧ל (and shall dip) הַכֹּהֵ֛ן (the priest) אֶת־ (-) אֶצְבָּע֖וֹ (his finger) בַּדָּ֑ם (in the blood) וְהִזָּ֨ה (and he shall sprinkle) מִן־ (from) הַדָּ֜ם (the blood) שֶׁ֤בַע (seven) פְּעָמִים֙ (times) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), אֶת־ (-) פְּנֵ֖י (the face) פָּרֹ֥כֶת (of the veil) הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ (of the Holy Place). 7  וְנָתַן֩ (And shall put) הַכֹּהֵ֨ן (the priest) מִן־ (from) הַדָּ֜ם (the blood) עַל־ (on) קַ֠רְנוֹת (the horns) מִזְבַּ֨ח (of the altar) קְטֹ֤רֶת (of incense) הַסַּמִּים֙ (of the spices) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which is) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting). וְאֵ֣ת׀ (And) כָּל־ (all) דַּ֣ם (the blood) הַפָּ֗ר (of the bull) יִשְׁפֹּךְ֙ (he shall pour) אֶל־ (at) יְסוֹד֙ (the base) מִזְבַּ֣ח (of the altar) הָעֹלָ֔ה (of the burnt offering), אֲשֶׁר־ (which is) פֶּ֖תַח (at the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting). 8  וְאֶת־ (And) כָּל־ (all) חֵ֛לֶב (the fat) פַּ֥ר (of the bull) הַֽחַטָּ֖את (of the sin offering), יָרִ֣ים (he shall lift up) מִמֶּ֑נּוּ (from it) אֶת־ (-) הַחֵ֙לֶב֙ (the fat) הַֽמְכַסֶּ֣ה (that is covering) עַל־ (over) הַקֶּ֔רֶב (the entrails), וְאֵת֙ (and) כָּל־ (all) הַחֵ֔לֶב (the fat) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (that is) עַל־ (on) הַקֶּֽרֶב׃ (the entrails), 9  וְאֵת֙ (and) שְׁתֵּ֣י (two) הַכְּלָיֹ֔ת (the kidneys) וְאֶת־ (and) הַחֵ֙לֶב֙ (the fat) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that is) עֲלֵיהֶ֔ן (on them) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (that is) עַל־ (on) הַכְּסָלִ֑ים (the flanks), וְאֶת־ (and) הַיֹּתֶ֙רֶת֙ (the lobe) עַל־ (of) הַכָּבֵ֔ד (the liver) עַל־ (above) הַכְּלָי֖וֹת (the kidneys) יְסִירֶֽנָּה׃ (he shall remove), 10  כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר (as) יוּרַ֔ם (it is lifted up) מִשּׁ֖וֹר (from the bull) זֶ֣בַח (of the sacrifice) הַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים (of the peace offerings). וְהִקְטִירָם֙ (And shall burn them) הַכֹּהֵ֔ן (the priest) עַ֖ל (on) מִזְבַּ֥ח (the altar) הָעֹלָֽה׃ (of the burnt offering). 11  וְאֶת־ (And) ע֤וֹר (the skin) הַפָּר֙ (of the bull) וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) בְּשָׂר֔וֹ (its flesh), עַל־ (with) רֹאשׁ֖וֹ (its head), וְעַל־ (and) כְּרָעָ֑יו (its legs), וְקִרְבּ֖וֹ (and its entrails), וּפִרְשֽׁוֹ׃ (and its dung)— 12  וְהוֹצִ֣יא (and he shall carry) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַ֠פָּר (of the bull) אֶל־ (-) מִח֨וּץ (outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֜ה (of the camp) אֶל־ (to) מָק֤וֹם (a place) טָהוֹר֙ (clean), אֶל־ (to) שֶׁ֣פֶךְ (the place of the pouring out) הַדֶּ֔שֶׁן (of the ashes), וְשָׂרַ֥ף (and he shall burn) אֹת֛וֹ (it) עַל־ (on) עֵצִ֖ים (wood) בָּאֵ֑שׁ (with the fire). עַל־ (On) שֶׁ֥פֶךְ (the place of the pouring out) הַדֶּ֖שֶׁן (of the ashes) יִשָּׂרֵֽף׃פ (it shall be burned).

13  וְאִ֨ם (Now if) כָּל־ (the whole) עֲדַ֤ת (congregation) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) יִשְׁגּ֔וּ (errs), וְנֶעְלַ֣ם (and is hidden) דָּבָ֔ר (the matter) מֵעֵינֵ֖י (from the eyes) הַקָּהָ֑ל (of the assembly), וְ֠עָשׂוּ (and they do) אַחַ֨ת (one) מִכָּל־ (from all) מִצְוֺ֧ת (the commandments) יְהוָ֛ה (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) לֹא־ (are not) תֵעָשֶׂ֖ינָה (to be done), וְאָשֵֽׁמוּ׃ (and they are guilty), 14  וְנֽוֹדְעָה֙ (and becomes known) הַֽחַטָּ֔את (the sin) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) חָטְא֖וּ (they have sinned) עָלֶ֑יהָ (against it), וְהִקְרִ֨יבוּ (shall bring near) הַקָּהָ֜ל (then the assembly) פַּ֤ר (a young bull) בֶּן־ (a son) בָּקָר֙ (of the herd) לְחַטָּ֔את (for a sin offering), וְהֵבִ֣יאוּ (and they shall bring) אֹת֔וֹ (it) לִפְנֵ֖י (before the face) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting). 15  וְ֠סָמְכוּ (And shall lay) זִקְנֵ֨י (the elders) הָעֵדָ֧ה (of the congregation) אֶת־ (-) יְדֵיהֶ֛ם (their hands) עַל־ (on) רֹ֥אשׁ (the head) הַפָּ֖ר (of the bull) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), וְשָׁחַ֥ט (and shall be slaughtered) אֶת־ (-) הַפָּ֖ר (the bull) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 16  וְהֵבִ֛יא (And shall bring) הַכֹּהֵ֥ן (the priest) הַמָּשִׁ֖יחַ (the anointed) מִדַּ֣ם (from the blood) הַפָּ֑ר (of the bull) אֶל־ (to) אֹ֖הֶל (the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting). 17  וְטָבַ֧ל (And shall dip) הַכֹּהֵ֛ן (the priest) אֶצְבָּע֖וֹ (his finger) מִן־ (in) הַדָּ֑ם (the blood) וְהִזָּ֞ה (and he shall sprinkle it) שֶׁ֤בַע (seven) פְּעָמִים֙ (times) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) אֵ֖ת (-) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) הַפָּרֹֽכֶת׃ (of the veil). 18  וּמִן־ (And from) הַדָּ֞ם (the blood) יִתֵּ֣ן׀ (he shall put) עַל־ (on) קַרְנֹ֣ת (the horns) הַמִּזְבֵּ֗חַ (of the altar) אֲשֶׁר֙ (that is) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which is) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting), וְאֵ֣ת (and) כָּל־ (all) הַדָּ֗ם (the blood) יִשְׁפֹּךְ֙ (he shall pour out) אֶל־ (at) יְסוֹד֙ (the base) מִזְבַּ֣ח (of the altar) הָעֹלָ֔ה (of the burnt offering), אֲשֶׁר־ (that is) פֶּ֖תַח (at the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting). 19  וְאֵ֥ת (And) כָּל־ (all) חֶלְבּ֖וֹ (the fat) יָרִ֣ים (he shall take) מִמֶּ֑נּוּ (from it) וְהִקְטִ֖יר (and he shall burn it) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחָה׃ (on the altar). 20  וְעָשָׂ֣ה (And he shall do) לַפָּ֔ר (to the bull) כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר (as) עָשָׂה֙ (he did) לְפַ֣ר (to the bull) הַֽחַטָּ֔את (of the sin offering); כֵּ֖ן (thus) יַעֲשֶׂה־ (shall he do) לּ֑וֹ (to it). וְכִפֶּ֧ר (And shall make atonement) עֲלֵהֶ֛ם (upon them) הַכֹּהֵ֖ן (the priest), וְנִסְלַ֥ח (and it shall be forgiven) לָהֶֽם׃ (for them). 21  וְהוֹצִ֣יא (And he shall carry) אֶת־ (-) הַפָּ֗ר (the bull) אֶל־ (to) מִחוּץ֙ (the outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה (of the camp), וְשָׂרַ֣ף (and he shall burn) אֹת֔וֹ (it) כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר (as) שָׂרַ֔ף (he burned) אֵ֖ת (-) הַפָּ֣ר (the bull) הָרִאשׁ֑וֹן (first); חַטַּ֥את (a sin offering) הַקָּהָ֖ל (of the assembly) הֽוּא׃פ (it is).

22  אֲשֶׁ֥ר (When) נָשִׂ֖יא (a ruler) יֶֽחֱטָ֑א (sins), וְעָשָׂ֡ה (and does) אַחַ֣ת (one) מִכָּל־ (from all) מִצְוֺת֩ (the commandments) יְהוָ֨ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהָ֜יו (his God) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that) לֹא־ (are not) תֵעָשֶׂ֛ינָה (to be done) בִּשְׁגָגָ֖ה (in error), וְאָשֵֽׁם׃ (and is guilty), 23  אֽוֹ־ (or) הוֹדַ֤ע (is made known) אֵלָיו֙ (to him) חַטָּאת֔וֹ (his sin) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) חָטָ֖א (he sinned) בָּ֑הּ (in it), וְהֵבִ֧יא (then he shall bring) אֶת־ (-) קָרְבָּנ֛וֹ (his offering) שְׂעִ֥יר (a kid) עִזִּ֖ים (of the goats), זָכָ֥ר (a male) תָּמִֽים׃ (unblemished). 24  וְסָמַ֤ךְ (And he shall lay) יָדוֹ֙ (his hand) עַל־ (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (the head) הַשָּׂעִ֔יר (of the goat) וְשָׁחַ֣ט (and he shall slaughter) אֹת֔וֹ (it) בִּמְק֛וֹם (in the place) אֲשֶׁר־ (where) יִשְׁחַ֥ט (he slaughters) אֶת־ (-) הָעֹלָ֖ה (the burnt offering) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH); חַטָּ֖את (a sin offering) הֽוּא׃ (it is). 25  וְלָקַ֨ח (And shall take) הַכֹּהֵ֜ן (the priest) מִדַּ֤ם (from the blood) הַֽחַטָּאת֙ (of the sin offering) בְּאֶצְבָּע֔וֹ (with his finger), וְנָתַ֕ן (and he shall put it) עַל־ (on) קַרְנֹ֖ת (the horns) מִזְבַּ֣ח (of the altar) הָעֹלָ֑ה (of the burnt offering), וְאֶת־ (and) דָּמ֣וֹ (its blood) יִשְׁפֹּ֔ךְ (he shall pour) אֶל־ (at) יְס֖וֹד (the base) מִזְבַּ֥ח (of the altar) הָעֹלָֽה׃ (of the burnt offering). 26  וְאֶת־ (And) כָּל־ (all) חֶלְבּוֹ֙ (its fat) יַקְטִ֣יר (he shall burn) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה (on the altar), כְּחֵ֖לֶב (like the fat) זֶ֣בַח (of the sacrifice) הַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים (of the peace offerings); וְכִפֶּ֨ר (and shall make atonement) עָלָ֧יו (upon him) הַכֹּהֵ֛ן (the priest) מֵחַטָּאת֖וֹ (from his sin), וְנִסְלַ֥ח (and it shall be forgiven) לֽוֹ׃פ (for him).

27  וְאִם־ (And if) נֶ֧פֶשׁ (soul) אַחַ֛ת (one) תֶּחֱטָ֥א (sins) בִשְׁגָגָ֖ה (in error) מֵעַ֣ם (from the people) הָאָ֑רֶץ (of the land) בַּ֠עֲשֹׂתָהּ (in doing) אַחַ֨ת (one) מִמִּצְוֺ֧ת (of the commandments) יְהוָ֛ה (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) לֹא־ (are not) תֵעָשֶׂ֖ינָה (to be done), וְאָשֵֽׁם׃ (and is guilty), 28  א֚וֹ (or) הוֹדַ֣ע (is made known) אֵלָ֔יו (to him) חַטָּאת֖וֹ (his sin) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which) חָטָ֑א (he has sinned), וְהֵבִ֨יא (and he shall bring) קָרְבָּנ֜וֹ (as his offering) שְׂעִירַ֤ת (a female kid) עִזִּים֙ (of the goats) תְּמִימָ֣ה (unblemished), נְקֵבָ֔ה (a female), עַל־ (for) חַטָּאת֖וֹ (his sin) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) חָטָֽא׃ (he has sinned). 29  וְסָמַךְ֙ (And he shall lay) אֶת־ (-) יָד֔וֹ (his hand) עַ֖ל (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (the head) הַֽחַטָּ֑את (of the sin offering), וְשָׁחַט֙ (and he shall slaughter) אֶת־ (-) הַ֣חַטָּ֔את (the sin offering) בִּמְק֖וֹם (in the place) הָעֹלָֽה׃ (of the burnt offering). 30  וְלָקַ֨ח (And shall take) הַכֹּהֵ֤ן (the priest) מִדָּמָהּ֙ (from its blood) בְּאֶצְבָּע֔וֹ (with his finger), וְנָתַ֕ן (and he shall put it) עַל־ (on) קַרְנֹ֖ת (the horns) מִזְבַּ֣ח (of the altar) הָעֹלָ֑ה (of the burnt offering), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) דָּמָ֣הּ (the blood) יִשְׁפֹּ֔ךְ (he shall pour) אֶל־ (at) יְס֖וֹד (the base) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (of the altar). 31  וְאֶת־ (And) כָּל־ (all) חֶלְבָּ֣הּ (its fat) יָסִ֗יר (he shall remove) כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (as) הוּסַ֣ר (is removed) חֵלֶב֮ (the fat) מֵעַ֣ל (from) זֶ֣בַח (the sacrifice) הַשְּׁלָמִים֒ (of the peace offerings); וְהִקְטִ֤יר (and shall burn it) הַכֹּהֵן֙ (the priest) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה (on the altar) לְרֵ֥יחַ (for an aroma) נִיחֹ֖חַ (pleasing) לַיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH). וְכִפֶּ֥ר (And shall make atonement) עָלָ֛יו (upon him) הַכֹּהֵ֖ן (the priest), וְנִסְלַ֥ח (and it shall be forgiven) לֽוֹ׃פ (for him).

32  וְאִם־ (And if) כֶּ֛בֶשׂ (a lamb) יָבִ֥יא (he brings) קָרְבָּנ֖וֹ (for his offering) לְחַטָּ֑את (for a sin offering), נְקֵבָ֥ה (a female) תְמִימָ֖ה (unblemished) יְבִיאֶֽנָּה׃ (he shall bring). 33  וְסָמַךְ֙ (And he shall lay) אֶת־ (-) יָד֔וֹ (his hand) עַ֖ל (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (the head) הַֽחַטָּ֑את (of the sin offering) וְשָׁחַ֤ט (and he shall slaughter) אֹתָהּ֙ (it) לְחַטָּ֔את (for a sin offering) בִּמְק֕וֹם (in the place) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (where) יִשְׁחַ֖ט (he slaughters) אֶת־ (-) הָעֹלָֽה׃ (the burnt offering). 34  וְלָקַ֨ח (And shall take) הַכֹּהֵ֜ן (the priest) מִדַּ֤ם (from the blood) הַֽחַטָּאת֙ (of the sin offering) בְּאֶצְבָּע֔וֹ (with his finger) וְנָתַ֕ן (and he shall put it) עַל־ (on) קַרְנֹ֖ת (the horns) מִזְבַּ֣ח (of the altar) הָעֹלָ֑ה (of the burnt offering), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) דָּמָ֣הּ (its blood) יִשְׁפֹּ֔ךְ (he shall pour) אֶל־ (at) יְס֖וֹד (the base) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (of the altar). 35  וְאֶת־ (And) כָּל־ (all) חֶלְבָּ֣ה (its fat) יָסִ֗יר (he shall remove) כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (as) יוּסַ֥ר (is removed) חֵֽלֶב־ (the fat) הַכֶּשֶׂב֮ (of the lamb) מִזֶּ֣בַח (from the sacrifice) הַשְּׁלָמִים֒ (of the peace offerings); וְהִקְטִ֨יר (and shall burn) הַכֹּהֵ֤ן (the priest) אֹתָם֙ (them) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה (on the altar), עַ֖ל (on) אִשֵּׁ֣י (the fire offerings) יְהוָ֑ה (to YHWH). וְכִפֶּ֨ר (And shall make atonement) עָלָ֧יו (upon him) הַכֹּהֵ֛ן (the priest) עַל־ (upon) חַטָּאת֥וֹ (his sin) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) חָטָ֖א (he has sinned), וְנִסְלַ֥ח (and it shall be forgiven) לֽוֹ׃פ (for him).
