The Two Silver Trumpets

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  עֲשֵׂ֣ה (Make) לְךָ֗ (for yourself) שְׁתֵּי֙ (two) חֲצֽוֹצְרֹ֣ת (trumpets) כֶּ֔סֶף (silver). מִקְשָׁ֖ה (Of hammered work) תַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה (you shall make) אֹתָ֑ם (them), וְהָי֤וּ (and you shall make use) לְךָ֙ (of them) לְמִקְרָ֣א (for calling) הָֽעֵדָ֔ה (the congregation), וּלְמַסַּ֖ע (and for pulling up) אֶת־ (-) הַֽמַּחֲנֽוֹת׃ (the camps). 3  וְתָקְע֖וּ (And they shall blow) בָּהֵ֑ן (both of them), וְנֽוֹעֲד֤וּ (and shall gather) אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ (before you) כָּל־ (all) הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה (the congregation) אֶל־ (at) פֶּ֖תַח (the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting). 4  וְאִם־ (But if) בְּאַחַ֖ת (with one) יִתְקָ֑עוּ (they blow), וְנוֹעֲד֤וּ (and shall gather) אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ (to you) הַנְּשִׂיאִ֔ים (the leaders), רָאשֵׁ֖י (the heads) אַלְפֵ֥י (of the divisions) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

5  וּתְקַעְתֶּ֖ם (And you⁺ shall blow) תְּרוּעָ֑ה (a short blast), וְנָֽסְעוּ֙ (and shall set out) הַֽמַּחֲנ֔וֹת (the camps) הַחֹנִ֖ים (that lie) קֵֽדְמָה׃ (on the east side). 6  וּתְקַעְתֶּ֤ם (And you⁺ shall blow) תְּרוּעָה֙ (a short blast) שֵׁנִ֔ית (the second), וְנָֽסְעוּ֙ (and shall set out) הַֽמַּחֲנ֔וֹת (the camps) הַחֹנִ֖ים (that lie) תֵּימָ֑נָה (on the south side). תְּרוּעָ֥ה (A short blast) יִתְקְע֖וּ (they shall blow) לְמַסְעֵיהֶֽם׃ (to set out). 7  וּבְהַקְהִ֖יל (And in the assembling) אֶת־ (-) הַקָּהָ֑ל (of the assembly), תִּתְקְע֖וּ (you⁺ shall blow), וְלֹ֥א (and not) תָרִֽיעוּ׃ (sound a short blast). 8  וּבְנֵ֤י (And the sons) אַהֲרֹן֙ (of Aaron), הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים (the priests), יִתְקְע֖וּ (shall blow) בַּֽחֲצֹצְר֑וֹת (the trumpets); וְהָי֥וּ (and these shall be) לָכֶ֛ם (to you⁺) לְחֻקַּ֥ת (as an ordinance) עוֹלָ֖ם (forever) לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ (throughout your⁺ generations).

9  וְכִֽי־ (And when) תָבֹ֨אוּ (you⁺ go into) מִלְחָמָ֜ה (battle) בְּאַרְצְכֶ֗ם (in your⁺ land) עַל־ (against) הַצַּר֙ (the adversary) הַצֹּרֵ֣ר (who oppresses) אֶתְכֶ֔ם (you⁺), וַהֲרֵעֹתֶ֖ם (and you⁺ shall sound a short blast) בַּחֲצֹצְר֑וֹת (with the trumpets), וֲנִזְכַּרְתֶּ֗ם (and you⁺ will be remembered) לִפְנֵי֙ (before the face of) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ God), וְנוֹשַׁעְתֶּ֖ם (and you⁺ will be saved) מֵאֹיְבֵיכֶֽם׃ (from your⁺ enemies). 10  וּבְי֨וֹם (And in the day) שִׂמְחַתְכֶ֥ם (of your⁺ gladness), וּֽבְמוֹעֲדֵיכֶם֮ (and in your⁺ appointed times), וּבְרָאשֵׁ֣י (and at the beginning) חָדְשֵׁיכֶם֒ (of your⁺ months), וּתְקַעְתֶּ֣ם (and you⁺ shall blow) בַּחֲצֹֽצְרֹ֗ת (the trumpets) עַ֚ל (over) עֹלֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ burnt offerings), וְעַ֖ל (and over) זִבְחֵ֣י (the sacrifices) שַׁלְמֵיכֶ֑ם (of your⁺ peace offerings), וְהָי֨וּ (and they shall be) לָכֶ֤ם (for you⁺) לְזִכָּרוֹן֙ (a memorial) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face of) אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ God). אֲנִ֖י (I am) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃פ (your⁺ God).

From Sinai to Paran

11  וַיְהִ֞י (And it came to pass) בַּשָּׁנָ֧ה (in the year) הַשֵּׁנִ֛ית (second), בַּחֹ֥דֶשׁ (in the month) הַשֵּׁנִ֖י (second), בְּעֶשְׂרִ֣ים (on the twentieth) בַּחֹ֑דֶשׁ (of the month), נַעֲלָה֙ (that was taken up) הֶֽעָנָ֔ן (the cloud) מֵעַ֖ל (from above) מִשְׁכַּ֥ן (the tabernacle) הָעֵדֻֽת׃ (of the Testimony). 12  וַיִּסְע֧וּ (And set out) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל (of Israel) לְמַסְעֵיהֶ֖ם (on their journeys) מִמִּדְבַּ֣ר (from the Wilderness) סִינָ֑י (of Sinai). וַיִּשְׁכֹּ֥ן (And settled down) הֶעָנָ֖ן (the cloud) בְּמִדְבַּ֥ר (in the Wilderness) פָּארָֽן׃ (of Paran). 13  וַיִּסְע֖וּ (And they set out) בָּרִאשֹׁנָ֑ה (at the first) עַל־ (according to) פִּ֥י (the mouth) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) בְּיַד־ (by the hand) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (of Moses).

14  וַיִּסַּ֞ע (And set out) דֶּ֣גֶל (the standard) מַחֲנֵ֧ה (of the camp) בְנֵֽי־ (of the sons) יְהוּדָ֛ה (of Judah) בָּרִאשֹׁנָ֖ה (at the first) לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies), וְעַל־ (and over) צְבָא֔וֹ (their army) נַחְשׁ֖וֹן (was Nahshon) בֶּן־ (son) עַמִּינָדָֽב׃ (of Amminadab). 15  וְעַ֨ל־ (And over) צְבָ֔א (the army) מַטֵּ֖ה (of the tribe) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשָׂשכָ֑ר (of Issachar) נְתַנְאֵ֖ל (was Nethanel) בֶּן־ (son) צוּעָֽר׃ (of Zuar). 16  וְעַ֨ל־ (And over) צְבָ֔א (the army) מַטֵּ֖ה (of the tribe) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) זְבוּלֻ֑ן (of Zebulun) אֱלִיאָ֖ב (was Eliab), בֶּן־ (son) חֵלֽוֹן׃ (of Helon). 17  וְהוּרַ֖ד (And was taken down) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֑ן (the tabernacle), וְנָסְע֤וּ (and set out) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) גֵרְשׁוֹן֙ (of Gershon) וּבְנֵ֣י (and the sons) מְרָרִ֔י (of Merari), נֹשְׂאֵ֖י (carrying) הַמִּשְׁכָּֽן׃ס (the tabernacle).

18  וְנָסַ֗ע (And set out) דֶּ֛גֶל (the standard) מַחֲנֵ֥ה (of the camp) רְאוּבֵ֖ן (of Reuben), לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies), וְעַל־ (and over) צְבָא֔וֹ (their army) אֱלִיצ֖וּר (was Elizur) בֶּן־ (son) שְׁדֵיאֽוּר׃ (of Shedeur). 19  וְעַ֨ל־ (And over) צְבָ֔א (the army) מַטֵּ֖ה (of the tribe) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) שִׁמְע֑וֹן (of Simeon) שְׁלֻֽמִיאֵ֖ל (was Shelumiel) בֶּן־ (son) צוּרִֽי (of) שַׁדָּֽי׃ (Zurishaddai). 20  וְעַל־ (And over) צְבָ֖א (the army) מַטֵּ֣ה (of the tribe) בְנֵי־ (of the sons) גָ֑ד (of Gad) אֶלְיָסָ֖ף (was Eliasaph) בֶּן־ (son) דְּעוּאֵֽל׃ (of Deuel). 21  וְנָסְעוּ֙ (And set out) הַקְּהָתִ֔ים (the Kohathites) נֹשְׂאֵ֖י (carrying) הַמִּקְדָּ֑שׁ (the holy things); וְהֵקִ֥ימוּ (and was to be prepared) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן (the tabernacle) עַד־ (for) בֹּאָֽם׃ס (their arrival).

22  וְנָסַ֗ע (And set out) דֶּ֛גֶל (the standard) מַחֲנֵ֥ה (of the camp) בְנֵֽי־ (of the sons) אֶפְרַ֖יִם (of Ephraim), לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies), וְעַל־ (and over) צְבָא֔וֹ (their army) אֱלִישָׁמָ֖ע (was Elishama) בֶּן־ (son) עַמִּיהֽוּד׃ (of Ammihud). 23  וְעַ֨ל־ (And over) צְבָ֔א (the army) מַטֵּ֖ה (of the tribe) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה (of Manasseh) גַּמְלִיאֵ֖ל (was Gamaliel) בֶּן־ (son) פְּדָה־ (of Pedah-). צֽוּר׃ (ZUr) 24  וְעַ֨ל־ (and over) צְבָ֔א (the army) מַטֵּ֖ה (of the tribe) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) בִנְיָמִ֑ן (of Benjamin) אֲבִידָ֖ן (was Abidan) בֶּן־ (son) גִּדְעוֹנִֽי׃ס (of Gideoni).

25  וְנָסַ֗ע (And set out) דֶּ֚גֶל (the standard) מַחֲנֵ֣ה (of the camp) בְנֵי־ (of the sons) דָ֔ן (of Dan), מְאַסֵּ֥ף (the rear guard) לְכָל־ (of all) הַֽמַּחֲנֹ֖ת (the camps), לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies), וְעַל־ (and over) צְבָא֔וֹ (their army) אֲחִיעֶ֖זֶר (was Ahiezer) בֶּן־ (son) עַמִּישַׁדָּֽי׃ (of Ammishaddai). 26  וְעַל־ (And over) צְבָ֔א (the army) מַטֵּ֖ה (of the tribe) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) אָשֵׁ֑ר (of Asher) פַּגְעִיאֵ֖ל (was Pagiel) בֶּן־ (son) עָכְרָֽן׃ (of Ocran). 27  וְעַ֨ל־ (And over) צְבָ֔א (the army) מַטֵּ֖ה (of the tribe) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) נַפְתָּלִ֑י (of Naphtali) אֲחִירַ֖ע (was Ahira) בֶּן־ (son) עֵינָֽן׃ (of Enan).

28  אֵ֛לֶּה (These) מַסְעֵ֥י (were the order of march) בְנֵֽי־ (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies), וַיִּסָּֽעוּ׃ס (and they began their journey).

29  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses) לְ֠חֹבָב (to Hobab) בֶּן־ (son) רְעוּאֵ֣ל (of Reuel) הַמִּדְיָנִי֮ (the Midianite), חֹתֵ֣ן (father-in-law) מֹשֶׁה֒ (of Moses), נֹסְעִ֣ים׀ (Are setting out) אֲנַ֗חְנוּ (we) אֶל־ (for) הַמָּקוֹם֙ (the place) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (of which) אָמַ֣ר (said) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) אֹת֖וֹ (-), אֶתֵּ֣ן (I will give it) לָכֶ֑ם (to you⁺). לְכָ֤ה (Come) אִתָּ֙נוּ֙ (with us) וְהֵטַ֣בְנוּ (and we will treat well) לָ֔ךְ (you), כִּֽי־ (for) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) דִּבֶּר־ (has promised) ט֖וֹב (good things) עַל־ (to) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel).

30  וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And he said) אֵלָ֖יו (to him), לֹ֣א (Not) אֵלֵ֑ךְ (I will go). כִּ֧י (But) אִם־ (I) אֶל־ (to) אַרְצִ֛י (my land) וְאֶל־ (and to) מוֹלַדְתִּ֖י (my relatives) אֵלֵֽךְ׃ (will depart).

31  וַיֹּ֕אמֶר (And Moses said), אַל־ (Not) נָ֖א (please) תַּעֲזֹ֣ב (do leave) אֹתָ֑נוּ (us), כִּ֣י׀ (for) עַל־ (upon) כֵּ֣ן (thus) יָדַ֗עְתָּ (you know) חֲנֹתֵ֙נוּ֙ (how we are to camp) בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר (in the wilderness), וְהָיִ֥יתָ (and you can be) לָּ֖נוּ (our) לְעֵינָֽיִם׃ (eyes). 32  וְהָיָ֖ה (And it shall be), כִּי־ (if) תֵלֵ֣ךְ (you go) עִמָּ֑נוּ (with us), וְהָיָ֣ה׀ (and indeed it shall be) הַטּ֣וֹב (good) הַה֗וּא (that) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (whatever) יֵיטִ֧יב (will do) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) עִמָּ֖נוּ (to us), וְהֵטַ֥בְנוּ (and the same we will do) לָֽךְ׃ (to you).

33  וַיִּסְעוּ֙ (And they departed) מֵהַ֣ר (from the mountain) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) דֶּ֖רֶךְ (on a journey) שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת (of three) יָמִ֑ים (days), וַאֲר֨וֹן (and the ark) בְּרִית־ (of the covenant) יְהוָ֜ה (of YHWH) נֹסֵ֣עַ (went) לִפְנֵיהֶ֗ם (before them) דֶּ֚רֶךְ (for the journey) שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת (three) יָמִ֔ים (days) לָת֥וּר (to search out) לָהֶ֖ם (for them) מְנוּחָֽה׃ (a resting place). 34  וַעֲנַ֧ן (And the cloud) יְהוָ֛ה (of YHWH) עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (was above them) יוֹמָ֑ם (by day), בְּנָסְעָ֖ם (when they set out) מִן־ (from) הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃׆ס (the camp)

35  וַיְהִ֛י (and it came to pass) בִּנְסֹ֥עַ (in the journeying) הָאָרֹ֖ן (of the ark), וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (that said) מֹשֶׁ֑ה (Moses),

קוּמָ֣ה׀ (Rise up), יְהוָ֗ה (O YHWH)!

וְיָפֻ֙צוּ֙ (And be scattered) אֹֽיְבֶ֔יךָ (let Your enemies),

וְיָנֻ֥סוּ (and let flee) מְשַׂנְאֶ֖יךָ (those who hate You) מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃ (from your face).

36  וּבְנֻחֹ֖ה (And in its resting) יֹאמַ֑ר (he said),

שׁוּבָ֣ה (Return), יְהוָ֔ה (O YHWH),

רִֽבְב֖וֹת (to the myriads) אַלְפֵ֥י (the thousands) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃׆ס (of Israel)
