The Duties of the Kohathites
(Numbers 3:27–32; 1 Chronicles 23:12–20)

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses) וְאֶֽל־ (and) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (Aaron), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  נָשֹׂ֗א (Take) אֶת־ (-) רֹאשׁ֙ (a census) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) קְהָ֔ת (of Kohath) מִתּ֖וֹךְ (from the midst) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) לֵוִ֑י (of Levi) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם (by their clans), לְבֵ֥ית (by the house) אֲבֹתָֽם׃ (of their fathers), 3  מִבֶּ֨ן (from a son) שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים (of thirty) שָׁנָה֙ (years) וָמַ֔עְלָה (and above), וְעַ֖ד (and to) בֶּן־ (a son) חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (of fifty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years), כָּל־ (all) בָּא֙ (who enter) לַצָּבָ֔א (the service), לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת (to do) מְלָאכָ֖ה (the work) בְּאֹ֥הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting).

4  זֹ֛את (This) עֲבֹדַ֥ת (is the service) בְּנֵי־ (of the sons) קְהָ֖ת (of Kohath) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting): קֹ֖דֶשׁ (The holy) הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים׃ (of holies); 5  וּבָ֨א (and shall come) אַהֲרֹ֤ן (Aaron) וּבָנָיו֙ (and his sons), בִּנְסֹ֣עַ (in the setting forth) הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה (of the camp), וְהוֹרִ֕דוּ (and they shall take down) אֵ֖ת (-) פָּרֹ֣כֶת (veil), הַמָּסָ֑ךְ (of the screen), וְכִ֨סּוּ־ (and cover) בָ֔הּ (with it) אֵ֖ת (-) אֲרֹ֥ן (the ark) הָעֵדֻֽת׃ (of the Testimony). 6  וְנָתְנ֣וּ (And they shall put) עָלָ֗יו (on it) כְּסוּי֙ (a covering) ע֣וֹר (of skins) תַּ֔חַשׁ (badger), וּפָרְשׂ֧וּ (and spread) בֶֽגֶד־ (a cloth) כְּלִ֛יל (entirely) תְּכֵ֖לֶת (of blue) מִלְמָ֑עְלָה (over it), וְשָׂמ֖וּ (and they shall insert) בַּדָּֽיו׃ (its poles).

7  וְעַ֣ל׀ (And on) שֻׁלְחַ֣ן (the table) הַפָּנִ֗ים (of the Presence) יִפְרְשׂוּ֮ (they shall spread) בֶּ֣גֶד (a cloth) תְּכֵלֶת֒ (blue), וְנָתְנ֣וּ (and put) עָ֠לָיו (on it) אֶת־ (-) הַקְּעָרֹ֤ת (the dishes), וְאֶת־ (and) הַכַּפֹּת֙ (the pans), וְאֶת־ (and) הַמְּנַקִּיֹּ֔ת (the bowls), וְאֵ֖ת (and) קְשׂ֣וֹת (the pitchers) הַנָּ֑סֶךְ (for the drink offering), וְלֶ֥חֶם (and the bread) הַתָּמִ֖יד (continually) עָלָ֥יו (on it) יִהְיֶֽה׃ (shall be). 8  וּפָרְשׂ֣וּ (And they shall spread) עֲלֵיהֶ֗ם (over them) בֶּ֚גֶד (a cloth) תּוֹלַ֣עַת (of yarn) שָׁנִ֔י (scarlet), וְכִסּ֣וּ (and cover) אֹת֔וֹ (the same) בְּמִכְסֵ֖ה (with a covering) ע֣וֹר (of skins) תָּ֑חַשׁ (badger), וְשָׂמ֖וּ (and they shall insert) אֶת־ (-) בַּדָּֽיו׃ (its poles).

9  וְלָקְח֣וּ׀ (And they shall take) בֶּ֣גֶד (a cloth) תְּכֵ֗לֶת (blue), וְכִסּ֞וּ (and cover) אֶת־ (-) מְנֹרַ֤ת (the lampstand) הַמָּאוֹר֙ (of the light), וְאֶת־ (and) נֵ֣רֹתֶ֔יהָ (its lamps), וְאֶת־ (and) מַלְקָחֶ֖יהָ (its wick trimmers), וְאֶת־ (and) מַחְתֹּתֶ֑יהָ (its firepans), וְאֵת֙ (and) כָּל־ (all) כְּלֵ֣י (vessels) שַׁמְנָ֔הּ (its oil) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (with which) יְשָׁרְתוּ־ (they minister) לָ֖הּ (to). בָּהֶֽם׃ (It) 10  וְנָתְנ֤וּ (and they shall put) אֹתָהּ֙ (it) וְאֶת־ (and with) כָּל־ (all) כֵּלֶ֔יהָ (its vessels) אֶל־ (in) מִכְסֵ֖ה (a covering) ע֣וֹר (of skins) תָּ֑חַשׁ (badger), וְנָתְנ֖וּ (and put it) עַל־ (on) הַמּֽוֹט׃ (the carrying pole).

11  וְעַ֣ל׀ (And over) מִזְבַּ֣ח (altar) הַזָּהָ֗ב (the golden) יִפְרְשׂוּ֙ (they shall spread) בֶּ֣גֶד (a cloth) תְּכֵ֔לֶת (blue), וְכִסּ֣וּ (and cover) אֹת֔וֹ (it) בְּמִכְסֵ֖ה (with a covering) ע֣וֹר (of skins) תָּ֑חַשׁ (badger), וְשָׂמ֖וּ (and they shall insert) אֶת־ (-) בַּדָּֽיו׃ (its poles). 12  וְלָקְחוּ֩ (And they shall take) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) כְּלֵ֨י (the vessels) הַשָּׁרֵ֜ת (of service), אֲשֶׁ֧ר (which) יְשָֽׁרְתוּ־ (they minister) בָ֣ם (in) בַּקֹּ֗דֶשׁ (the sanctuary), וְנָֽתְנוּ֙ (and put them) אֶל־ (in) בֶּ֣גֶד (a cloth) תְּכֵ֔לֶת (blue), וְכִסּ֣וּ (and cover) אוֹתָ֔ם (them) בְּמִכְסֵ֖ה (with a covering) ע֣וֹר (of skins), תָּ֑חַשׁ (badger) וְנָתְנ֖וּ (and put them) עַל־ (on) הַמּֽוֹט׃ (a carrying beam).

13  וְדִשְּׁנ֖וּ (And they shall take away the ashes) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (from the altar), וּפָרְשׂ֣וּ (and spread) עָלָ֔יו (over it) בֶּ֖גֶד (a cloth) אַרְגָּמָֽן׃ (purple). 14  וְנָתְנ֣וּ (And they shall put) עָ֠לָיו (on it) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) כֵּלָ֞יו (its implements) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) יְֽשָׁרְת֧וּ (they minister) עָלָ֣יו (there) בָּהֶ֗ם (with) אֶת־ (-) הַמַּחְתֹּ֤ת (the firepans), אֶת־ (-) הַמִּזְלָגֹת֙ (the forks), וְאֶת־ (and) הַיָּעִ֣ים (the shovels), וְאֶת־ (and) הַמִּזְרָקֹ֔ת (the basins), כֹּ֖ל (and all) כְּלֵ֣י (the vessels) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (of the altar); וּפָרְשׂ֣וּ (and they shall spread) עָלָ֗יו (on it) כְּס֛וּי (a covering) ע֥וֹר (of skins) תַּ֖חַשׁ (badger), וְשָׂמ֥וּ (and insert) בַדָּֽיו׃ (its poles).

15  וְכִלָּ֣ה (And have finished) אַֽהֲרֹן־ (Aaron) וּ֠בָנָיו (and his sons) לְכַסֹּ֨ת (covering) אֶת־ (-) הַקֹּ֜דֶשׁ (the sanctuary), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) כְּלֵ֣י (the furnishings) הַקֹּדֶשׁ֮ (of the sanctuary), בִּנְסֹ֣עַ (when is set to go) הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֒ (the camp), וְאַחֲרֵי־ (after) כֵ֗ן (that) יָבֹ֤אוּ (shall come) בְנֵי־ (the sons) קְהָת֙ (of Kohath) לָשֵׂ֔את (to carry them); וְלֹֽא־ (not) יִגְּע֥וּ (they shall touch) אֶל־ (unto) הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ (any holy thing), וָמֵ֑תוּ (lest they die). אֵ֛לֶּה (These are) מַשָּׂ֥א (the things that are to carry) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) קְהָ֖ת (of Kohath) בְּאֹ֥הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting).

16  וּפְקֻדַּ֞ת (And the appointed duty) אֶלְעָזָ֣ר׀ (of Eleazar) בֶּן־ (son) אַהֲרֹ֣ן (of Aaron) הַכֹּהֵ֗ן (the priest), שֶׁ֤מֶן (is the oil for) הַמָּאוֹר֙ (the light), וּקְטֹ֣רֶת (and incense) הַסַּמִּ֔ים (of the spices), וּמִנְחַ֥ת (and grain offering) הַתָּמִ֖יד (the daily), וְשֶׁ֣מֶן (and oil), הַמִּשְׁחָ֑ה (the anointing) פְּקֻדַּ֗ת (the oversight) כָּל־ (of all) הַמִּשְׁכָּן֙ (the tabernacle), וְכָל־ (and of all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that is) בּ֔וֹ (in it) בְּקֹ֖דֶשׁ (with the sanctuary), וּבְכֵלָֽיו׃ס (and its furnishings).

17  וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses) וְאֶֽל־ (and) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (Aaron), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 18  אַל־ (Not) תַּכְרִ֕יתוּ (do cut off) אֶת־ (-) שֵׁ֖בֶט (the tribe) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֣ת (of the clans) הַקְּהָתִ֑י (of the Kohathite) מִתּ֖וֹךְ (from the midst) הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ (of the Levites). 19  וְזֹ֣את׀ (And this) עֲשׂ֣וּ (do) לָהֶ֗ם (in regard to them) וְחָיוּ֙ (that they may live), וְלֹ֣א (and not) יָמֻ֔תוּ (die), בְּגִשְׁתָּ֖ם (when they approach) אֶת־ (-) קֹ֣דֶשׁ (the holy) הַקֳּדָשִׁ֑ים (of holies); אַהֲרֹ֤ן (Aaron) וּבָנָיו֙ (and his sons) יָבֹ֔אוּ (shall go in), וְשָׂמ֣וּ (and appoint) אוֹתָ֗ם (-) אִ֥ישׁ (every) אִ֛ישׁ (man) עַל־ (to) עֲבֹדָת֖וֹ (his service) וְאֶל־ (and) מַשָּׂאֽוֹ׃ (his task); 20  וְלֹא־ (not) יָבֹ֧אוּ (they shall go in) לִרְא֛וֹת (to watch) כְּבַלַּ֥ע (being covered) אֶת־ (-) הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ (the holy things), וָמֵֽתוּ׃פ (lest they die).

The Duties of the Gershonites
(Numbers 3:21–26; 1 Chronicles 23:7–11)

21  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 22  נָשֹׂ֗א (Take) אֶת־ (-) רֹ֛אשׁ (a census) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) גֵרְשׁ֖וֹן (of Gershon), גַּם־ (even) הֵ֑ם (them) לְבֵ֥ית (by the house) אֲבֹתָ֖ם (of their fathers), לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם׃ (by their clans). 23  מִבֶּן֩ (From a son) שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים (of thirty) שָׁנָ֜ה (years) וָמַ֗עְלָה (and above) עַ֛ד (even to) בֶּן־ (a son) חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים (of fifty) שָׁנָ֖ה (years) תִּפְקֹ֣ד (you shall number) אוֹתָ֑ם (them), כָּל־ (all) הַבָּא֙ (who enter) לִצְבֹ֣א (to perform) צָבָ֔א (the service) לַעֲבֹ֥ד (to do) עֲבֹדָ֖ה (the work), בְּאֹ֥הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting).

24  זֹ֣את (This) עֲבֹדַ֔ת (is the service) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֖ת (of the clans) הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּ֑י (of the Gershonite), לַעֲבֹ֖ד (in serving), וּלְמַשָּֽׂא׃ (and carrying): 25  וְנָ֨שְׂא֜וּ (And they shall carry) אֶת־ (-) יְרִיעֹ֤ת (the curtains) הַמִּשְׁכָּן֙ (of the tabernacle), וְאֶת־ (and) אֹ֣הֶל (the Tent) מוֹעֵ֔ד (of Meeting), מִכְסֵ֕הוּ (with its covering), וּמִכְסֵ֛ה (and the covering) הַתַּ֥חַשׁ (of badger skins) אֲשֶׁר־ (that is) עָלָ֖יו (on it) מִלְמָ֑עְלָה (-), וְאֶ֨ת־ (and) מָסַ֔ךְ (the screen) פֶּ֖תַח (of the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting), 26  וְאֵת֩ (and) קַלְעֵ֨י (the hangings) הֶֽחָצֵ֜ר (of the court), וְאֶת־ (and) מָסַ֣ךְ׀ (the screen) פֶּ֣תַח׀ (of the door) שַׁ֣עַר (of the gate) הֶחָצֵ֗ר (of the court), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that is) עַל־ (around) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֤ן (the tabernacle) וְעַל־ (and) הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (the altar) סָבִ֔יב (all around), וְאֵת֙ (and) מֵֽיתְרֵיהֶ֔ם (their cords), וְאֶֽת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) כְּלֵ֖י (the furnishings for) עֲבֹדָתָ֑ם (their service), וְאֵ֨ת (and) כָּל־ (all) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that) יֵעָשֶׂ֛ה (is made) לָהֶ֖ם (for these things) וְעָבָֽדוּ׃ (and they shall serve).

27  עַל־ (Upon) פִּי֩ (the appointment) אַהֲרֹ֨ן (of Aaron) וּבָנָ֜יו (and his sons) תִּהְיֶ֗ה (shall be) כָּל־ (all) עֲבֹדַת֙ (the service) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּ֔י (of the Gershonite), לְכָל־ (all) מַשָּׂאָ֔ם (their tasks), וּלְכֹ֖ל (and all) עֲבֹדָתָ֑ם (their service), וּפְקַדְתֶּ֤ם (and you⁺ shall appoint) עֲלֵהֶם֙ (to them) בְּמִשְׁמֶ֔רֶת (as their duty) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) מַשָּׂאָֽם׃ (their tasks). 28  זֹ֣את (This) עֲבֹדַ֗ת (is the service) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֛ת (of the clans) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּ֖י (of the Gershonite) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting), וּמִ֨שְׁמַרְתָּ֔ם (and their duties are) בְּיַד֙ (by the hand) אִֽיתָמָ֔ר (of Ithamar), בֶּֽן־ (son) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (of Aaron) הַכֹּהֵֽן׃פ (the priest).

The Duties of the Merarites
(Numbers 3:33–37; 1 Chronicles 23:21–23)

29  בְּנֵ֖י (As for the sons) מְרָרִ֑י (of Merari), לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֥ם (by their clans), לְבֵית־ (and by the house) אֲבֹתָ֖ם (of their fathers), תִּפְקֹ֥ד (you shall number) אֹתָֽם׃ (them), 30  מִבֶּן֩ (from a son) שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים (of thirty) שָׁנָ֜ה (years) וָמַ֗עְלָה (and above), וְעַ֛ד (and to) בֶּן־ (a son) חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים (of fifty) שָׁנָ֖ה (years), תִּפְקְדֵ֑ם (you shall number them), כָּל־ (everyone) הַבָּא֙ (who enters) לַצָּבָ֔א (the service), לַעֲבֹ֕ד (to do) אֶת־ (-) עֲבֹדַ֖ת (the work) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting).

31  וְזֹאת֙ (And this is) מִשְׁמֶ֣רֶת (what they must) מַשָּׂאָ֔ם (carry), לְכָל־ (as all) עֲבֹדָתָ֖ם (their service) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (for the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting); קַרְשֵׁי֙ (the boards) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֔ן (of the tabernacle), וּבְרִיחָ֖יו (and its bars), וְעַמּוּדָ֥יו (and its pillars), וַאֲדָנָֽיו׃ (and its bases). 32  וְעַמּוּדֵי֩ (And the pillars) הֶחָצֵ֨ר (the court) סָבִ֜יב (around), וְאַדְנֵיהֶ֗ם (and their bases), וִֽיתֵדֹתָם֙ (and pegs), וּמֵ֣יתְרֵיהֶ֔ם (and cords), לְכָל־ (with all) כְּלֵיהֶ֔ם (their furnishings), וּלְכֹ֖ל (and all) עֲבֹדָתָ֑ם (their service); וּבְשֵׁמֹ֣ת (and by name) תִּפְקְד֔וּ (you⁺ shall assign) אֶת־ (-) כְּלֵ֖י (the items) מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת (of the charge) מַשָּׂאָֽם׃ (of their burden).

33  זֹ֣את (This) עֲבֹדַ֗ת (is the service) מִשְׁפְּחֹת֙ (of the clans) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) מְרָרִ֔י (of Merari), לְכָל־ (as all) עֲבֹדָתָ֖ם (their service), בְּאֹ֣הֶל (for the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting), בְּיַד֙ (by the hand) אִֽיתָמָ֔ר (of Ithamar) בֶּֽן־ (son) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (of Aaron) הַכֹּהֵֽן׃ (the priest).

The Numbering of the Levite Clans

34  וַיִּפְקֹ֨ד (And numbered) מֹשֶׁ֧ה (Moses) וְאַהֲרֹ֛ן (and Aaron) וּנְשִׂיאֵ֥י (and the leaders) הָעֵדָ֖ה (of the congregation) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) הַקְּהָתִ֑י (of the Kohathite) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם (by their clans), וּלְבֵ֥ית (and by the house) אֲבֹתָֽם׃ (of their fathers), 35  מִבֶּ֨ן (from a son) שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים (of thirty) שָׁנָה֙ (years) וָמַ֔עְלָה (and above) וְעַ֖ד (and to) בֶּן־ (a son) חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (of fifty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years), כָּל־ (everyone) הַבָּא֙ (who entered) לַצָּבָ֔א (the service), לַעֲבֹדָ֖ה (for work) בְּאֹ֥הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting). 36  וַיִּהְי֥וּ (And were) פְקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם (those numbered) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם (by their clans) אַלְפַּ֕יִם (two thousand) שְׁבַ֥ע (seven) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) וַחֲמִשִּֽׁים׃ (and fifty). 37  אֵ֤לֶּה (These were) פְקוּדֵי֙ (the ones who were numbered) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֣ת (of the clans) הַקְּהָתִ֔י (of the Kohathite), כָּל־ (all) הָעֹבֵ֖ד (who might serve) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (whom) פָּקַ֤ד (numbered) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) וְאַהֲרֹ֔ן (and Aaron), עַל־ (according to) פִּ֥י (the commandment) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) בְּיַד־ (by the hand) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ס (of Moses).

38  וּפְקוּדֵ֖י (And those numbered) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) גֵרְשׁ֑וֹן (of Gershon), לְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתָ֖ם (by their clans), וּלְבֵ֥ית (and by the house) אֲבֹתָֽם׃ (of their fathers), 39  מִבֶּ֨ן (from a son) שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים (of thirty) שָׁנָה֙ (years) וָמַ֔עְלָה (and above) וְעַ֖ד (and to) בֶּן־ (a son) חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (of fifty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years), כָּל־ (everyone) הַבָּא֙ (who entered) לַצָּבָ֔א (the service), לַעֲבֹדָ֖ה (for work) בְּאֹ֥הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting), 40  וַיִּֽהְיוּ֙ (and were) פְּקֻ֣דֵיהֶ֔ם (those numbered) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם (by their clans), לְבֵ֣ית (by the house) אֲבֹתָ֑ם (of their fathers), אַלְפַּ֕יִם (two thousand) וְשֵׁ֥שׁ (and six) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) וּשְׁלֹשִֽׁים׃ (and thirty). 41  אֵ֣לֶּה (These are) פְקוּדֵ֗י (those numbered) מִשְׁפְּחֹת֙ (of the clans) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) גֵרְשׁ֔וֹן (of Gershon), כָּל־ (of all) הָעֹבֵ֖ד (who might serve) בְּאֹ֣הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (whom) פָּקַ֥ד (numbered) מֹשֶׁ֛ה (Moses) וְאַהֲרֹ֖ן (and Aaron), עַל־ (according to) פִּ֥י (the commandment) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

42  וּפְקוּדֵ֕י (And those numbered) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֖ת (of the clans) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) מְרָרִ֑י (of Merari), לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם (by their clans), לְבֵ֥ית (by the house) אֲבֹתָֽם׃ (of their fathers), 43  מִבֶּ֨ן (from a son) שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים (of thirty) שָׁנָה֙ (years) וָמַ֔עְלָה (and above) וְעַ֖ד (and to) בֶּן־ (a son) חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (of fifty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years), כָּל־ (everyone) הַבָּא֙ (who entered) לַצָּבָ֔א (the service), לַעֲבֹדָ֖ה (for work) בְּאֹ֥הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting), 44  וַיִּהְי֥וּ (and were) פְקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם (those numbered) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם (by their clans), שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת (three) אֲלָפִ֖ים (thousand) וּמָאתָֽיִם׃ (and two hundred). 45  אֵ֣לֶּה (These are) פְקוּדֵ֔י (those numbered) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֖ת (of the clans) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) מְרָרִ֑י (of Merari), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (whom) פָּקַ֤ד (numbered) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) וְאַהֲרֹ֔ן (and Aaron), עַל־ (according to) פִּ֥י (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH), בְּיַד־ (by the hand) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (of Moses).

46  כָּֽל־ (All) הַפְּקֻדִ֡ים (who were numbered), אֲשֶׁר֩ (whom) פָּקַ֨ד (numbered) מֹשֶׁ֧ה (Moses) וְאַהֲרֹ֛ן (and Aaron) וּנְשִׂיאֵ֥י (and the leaders) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) אֶת־ (-) הַלְוִיִּ֑ם (of the Levites), לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם (by their clans), וּלְבֵ֥ית (and by the houses) אֲבֹתָֽם׃ (of their fathers), 47  מִבֶּ֨ן (from a son) שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים (of thirty) שָׁנָה֙ (years) וָמַ֔עְלָה (and above) וְעַ֖ד (and to) בֶּן־ (a son) חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (of fifty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years), כָּל־ (everyone) הַבָּ֗א (who came) לַעֲבֹ֨ד (to do) עֲבֹדַ֧ת (the work) עֲבֹדָ֛ה (of service), וַעֲבֹדַ֥ת (and the work) מַשָּׂ֖א (of bearing burdens) בְּאֹ֥הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting), 48  וַיִּהְי֖וּ (even were) פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (those numbered) שְׁמֹנַ֣ת (eight) אֲלָפִ֔ים (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) וּשְׁמֹנִֽים׃ (and eighty). 49  עַל־ (According to) פִּ֨י (the commandment) יְהוָ֜ה (of YHWH) פָּקַ֤ד (they were numbered) אוֹתָם֙ (-) בְּיַד־ (by the hand) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (of Moses), אִ֥ישׁ (man) אִ֛ישׁ (by man) עַל־ (according to) עֲבֹדָת֖וֹ (his service), וְעַל־ (and according to) מַשָּׂא֑וֹ (his task); וּפְקֻדָ֕יו (and they were numbered by him) אֲשֶׁר־ (as) צִוָּ֥ה (commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ (Moses).
