Judgment on Jerusalem

1  ה֥וֹי (Woe to) מֹרְאָ֖ה (her who is rebellious) וְנִגְאָלָ֑ה (and defiled),

הָעִ֖יר (the city)! הַיּוֹנָֽה׃ (Oppressing).

2  לֹ֤א (Not) שָֽׁמְעָה֙ (has she listened) בְּק֔וֹל (to His voice);

לֹ֥א (not) לָקְחָ֖ה (she has received) מוּסָ֑ר (discipline);

בַּֽיהוָה֙ (in YHWH); לֹ֣א (not) בָטָ֔חָה (does she trust)

אֶל־ (to) אֱלֹהֶ֖יהָ (her God) לֹ֥א (not) קָרֵֽבָה׃ (does she draw near).

3  שָׂרֶ֣יהָ (Her princes) בְקִרְבָּ֔הּ (within her) אֲרָי֖וֹת (are lions); שֹֽׁאֲגִ֑ים (roaring)

שֹׁפְטֶ֙יהָ֙ (her judges) זְאֵ֣בֵי (are wolves); עֶ֔רֶב (of the evening)

לֹ֥א (nothing) גָרְמ֖וּ (leaving) לַבֹּֽקֶר׃ (for the morning).

4  נְבִיאֶ֙יהָ֙ (Her prophets are) פֹּֽחֲזִ֔ים (reckless)

אַנְשֵׁ֖י (men) בֹּֽגְד֑וֹת (of treacheries)

כֹּהֲנֶ֙יהָ֙ (her priests) חִלְּלוּ־ (have profaned) קֹ֔דֶשׁ (the sanctuary),

חָמְס֖וּ (they do violence to) תּוֹרָֽה׃ (the law).

5  יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH is) צַדִּיק֙ (righteous) בְּקִרְבָּ֔הּ (within her)

לֹ֥א (not) יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה (will He do) עַוְלָ֑ה (injustice);

בַּבֹּ֨קֶר (morning) בַּבֹּ֜קֶר (by morning) מִשְׁפָּט֨וֹ (His justice) יִתֵּ֤ן (He gives)

לָאוֹר֙ (at the light), לֹ֣א (not); נֶעְדָּ֔ר (is He lacking)

וְלֹֽא־ (not) יוֹדֵ֥עַ (is knowning) עַוָּ֖ל (the unjust one) בֹּֽשֶׁת׃ (shame).

Purification of the Nations

6  הִכְרַ֣תִּי (I have cut off) גוֹיִ֗ם (nations);

נָשַׁ֙מּוּ֙ (and are devastated); פִּנּוֹתָ֔ם (their fortresses)

הֶחֱרַ֥בְתִּי (I have made desolate) חֽוּצוֹתָ֖ם (their streets)

מִבְּלִ֣י (without) עוֹבֵ֑ר (one passing through);

נִצְדּ֧וּ (are destroyed), עָרֵיהֶ֛ם (their cities)

מִבְּלִי־ (without) אִ֖ישׁ (a man), מֵאֵ֥ין (with no one) יוֹשֵֽׁב׃ (dwelling).

7  אָמַ֜רְתִּי (I said), אַךְ־ (Surely) תִּירְאִ֤י (you will fear) אוֹתִי֙ (Me)

תִּקְחִ֣י (you will receive) מוּסָ֔ר (discipline);

וְלֹֽא־ (then not) יִכָּרֵ֣ת (would be cut off), מְעוֹנָ֔הּ (her dwelling)

כֹּ֥ל (by all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) פָּקַ֖דְתִּי (I have visited) עָלֶ֑יהָ (upon her)

אָכֵן֙ (Nevertheless) הִשְׁכִּ֣ימוּ (they rose early),

הִשְׁחִ֔יתוּ (to corrupt) כֹּ֖ל (all) עֲלִילוֹתָֽם׃ (their deeds).

8  לָכֵ֤ן (Therefore) חַכּוּ־ (wait) לִי֙ (for Me)

נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH),

לְי֖וֹם (Until the day)

קוּמִ֣י (of My arising) לְעַ֑ד (to seize the prey);

כִּ֣י (For) מִשְׁפָּטִי֩ (My judgment is) לֶאֱסֹ֨ף (to gather) גּוֹיִ֜ם (the nations),

לְקָבְצִ֣י (to assemble unto Me) מַמְלָכ֗וֹת (the kingdoms),

לִשְׁפֹּ֨ךְ (to pour out) עֲלֵיהֶ֤ם (on them) זַעְמִי֙ (My indignation),

כֹּ֚ל (all) חֲר֣וֹן (the burning) אַפִּ֔י (of my nose);

כִּ֚י (Indeed) בְּאֵ֣שׁ (with the fire) קִנְאָתִ֔י (of My jealousy).

תֵּאָכֵ֖ל (Will be consumed) כָּל־ (all) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).

A Faithful Remnant

9  כִּֽי־ (For) אָ֛ז (then) אֶהְפֹּ֥ךְ (I will turn over) אֶל־ (to) עַמִּ֖ים (the peoples)

שָׂפָ֣ה (a lip), בְרוּרָ֑ה (made pure) לִקְרֹ֤א (to call)

כֻלָּם֙ (for all of them) בְּשֵׁ֣ם (on the name) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH),

לְעָבְד֖וֹ (to serve Him) שְׁכֶ֥ם (with a shoulder) אֶחָֽד׃ (one).

10  מֵעֵ֖בֶר (From beyond) לְנַֽהֲרֵי־ (the rivers) כ֑וּשׁ (of Cush)

עֲתָרַי֙ (My worshipers), בַּת־ (the daughter) פוּצַ֔י (of My dispersed ones),

יוֹבִל֖וּן (will bring along) מִנְחָתִֽי׃ (My offering).

11  בַּיּ֣וֹם (On the day) הַה֗וּא (that) לֹ֤א (not) תֵב֙וֹשִׁי֙ (will you feel shame)

מִכֹּ֣ל (from any) עֲלִילֹתַ֔יִךְ (of your deeds),

אֲשֶׁ֥ר (with which) פָּשַׁ֖עַתְּ (you have transgressed) בִּ֑י (against Me)

כִּי־ (for) אָ֣ז׀ (then) אָסִ֣יר (I will turn away) מִקִּרְבֵּ֗ךְ (from your midst)

עַלִּיזֵי֙ (the jubilant ones) גַּאֲוָתֵ֔ךְ (of your pride),

וְלֹֽא־ (and not) תוֹסִ֧פִי (will you continue) לְגָבְהָ֛ה (to be haughty) ע֖וֹד (any longer)

בְּהַ֥ר (on the mountain) קָדְשִֽׁי׃ (of My holiness).

12  וְהִשְׁאַרְתִּ֣י (And I will leave) בְקִרְבֵּ֔ךְ (in your midst) עַ֥ם (a people), עָנִ֖י (humble) וָדָ֑ל (and poor)

וְחָס֖וּ (and they will take refuge) בְּשֵׁ֥ם (in the name) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

13  שְׁאֵרִ֨ית (The remnant) יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל (of Israel) לֹֽא־ (not) יַעֲשׂ֤וּ (will do) עַוְלָה֙ (injustice),

וְלֹא־ (and not) יְדַבְּר֣וּ (will they speak) כָזָ֔ב (lies);

וְלֹֽא־ (and not) יִמָּצֵ֥א (will be found) בְּפִיהֶ֖ם (in their mouth);

לְשׁ֣וֹן (a tongue) תַּרְמִ֑ית (of deceit)

כִּֽי־ (For) הֵ֛מָּה (they) יִרְע֥וּ (will feed the flocks) וְרָבְצ֖וּ (and will lie down),

וְאֵ֥ין (and there will not be) מַחֲרִֽיד׃ס (one frightening them).

Israel’s Restoration

14  רָנִּי֙ (Sing out), בַּת־ (O daughter) צִיּ֔וֹן (of Zion);

הָרִ֖יעוּ (shout), יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (O Israel);

שִׂמְחִ֤י (be glad) וְעָלְזִי֙ (and rejoice) בְּכָל־ (with all) לֵ֔ב (the heart),

בַּ֖ת (O daughter) יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (of Jerusalem).

15  הֵסִ֤יר (Has turned aside) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) מִשְׁפָּטַ֔יִךְ (your judgments),

פִּנָּ֖ה (He has turned back) אֹֽיְבֵ֑ךְ (your enemy);

מֶ֣לֶךְ (the King) יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל׀ (of Israel), יְהוָה֙ (YHWH), בְּקִרְבֵּ֔ךְ (is among you)

לֹא־ (and not) תִֽירְאִ֥י (will you fear) רָ֖ע (evil) עֽוֹד׃ (anymore).

16  בַּיּ֣וֹם (On the day) הַה֔וּא (that) יֵאָמֵ֥ר (it will be said) לִירֽוּשָׁלִַ֖ם (to Jerusalem),

אַל־ (Do not); תִּירָ֑אִי (fear) צִיּ֖וֹן (O Zion),

אַל־ (not) יִרְפּ֥וּ (let be slack) יָדָֽיִךְ׃ (your hands).

17  יְהוָ֧ה (For YHWH) אֱלֹהַ֛יִךְ (your God) בְּקִרְבֵּ֖ך (is among you)

גִּבּ֣וֹר (the Mighty One); יוֹשִׁ֑יעַ (who saves),

יָשִׂ֨ישׂ (He will rejoice) עָלַ֜יִךְ (over you) בְּשִׂמְחָ֗ה (with gladness);

יַחֲרִישׁ֙ (He will quiet you) בְּאַ֣הֲבָת֔וֹ (with His love),

יָגִ֥יל (He will be joyous) עָלַ֖יִךְ (over you) בְּרִנָּֽה׃ (with singing).

18  נוּגֵ֧י (Those sorrowing) מִמּוֹעֵ֛ד (from the appointed time), אָסַ֖פְתִּי (I will gather up)

מִמֵּ֣ךְ (put away from you),

הָי֑וּ (they will be) מַשְׂאֵ֥ת (a lifting away) עָלֶ֖יהָ (and along with it) חֶרְפָּֽה׃ (reproach).

19  הִנְנִ֥י (Behold, I) עֹשֶׂ֛ה (will be dealing) אֶת־ (with) כָּל־ (all) מְעַנַּ֖יִךְ (who afflict you)

בָּעֵ֣ת (at the time) הַהִ֑יא (that)

וְהוֹשַׁעְתִּ֣י (and I will save) אֶת־ (-) הַצֹּלֵעָ֗ה (the lame),

וְהַנִּדָּחָה֙ (and those driven out); אֲקַבֵּ֔ץ (I will gather)

וְשַׂמְתִּים֙ (and I will set them) לִתְהִלָּ֣ה (for praise) וּלְשֵׁ֔ם (and for renown)

בְּכָל־ (in every) הָאָ֖רֶץ (land) בָּשְׁתָּֽם׃ (of their shame).

20  בָּעֵ֤ת (At the time) הַהִיא֙ (that) אָבִ֣יא (I will bring in) אֶתְכֶ֔ם (you⁺)

וּבָעֵ֖ת (and at the time) קַבְּצִ֣י (I gather) אֶתְכֶ֑ם (you⁺)

כִּֽי־ (for) אֶתֵּ֨ן (I will give) אֶתְכֶ֜ם (to you⁺) לְשֵׁ֣ם (renown) וְלִתְהִלָּ֗ה (and praise)

בְּכֹל֙ (among all) עַמֵּ֣י (the peoples) הָאָ֔רֶץ (of the earth),

בְּשׁוּבִ֧י (in my returning) אֶת־ (-) שְׁבוּתֵיכֶ֛ם (your⁺ captives)

לְעֵינֵיכֶ֖ם (before your⁺ eyes),

אָמַ֥ר (says) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).
