New Stone Tablets
(Exodus 34:1–9)

1  בָּעֵ֨ת (At the time) הַהִ֜וא (that), אָמַ֧ר (said) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֵלַ֗י (to me), פְּסָל־ (Hew) לְךָ֞ (for yourself) שְׁנֵֽי־ (two) לֻוחֹ֤ת (tablets) אֲבָנִים֙ (of stone) כָּרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים (like the first), וַעֲלֵ֥ה (and come up) אֵלַ֖י (to Me) הָהָ֑רָה (on the mountain), וְעָשִׂ֥יתָ (and make) לְּךָ֖ (yourself) אֲר֥וֹן (an ark) עֵֽץ׃ (of wood). 2  וְאֶכְתֹּב֙ (And I will write) עַל־ (on) הַלֻּחֹ֔ת (the tablets) אֶת־ (-) הַדְּבָרִ֔ים (the words) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) הָי֛וּ (were) עַל־ (on) הַלֻּחֹ֥ת (the tablets) הָרִאשֹׁנִ֖ים (first) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) שִׁבַּ֑רְתָּ (you broke), וְשַׂמְתָּ֖ם (and you shall put them) בָּאָרֽוֹן׃ (in the ark).

3  וָאַ֤עַשׂ (And I made) אֲרוֹן֙ (an ark) עֲצֵ֣י (of wood) שִׁטִּ֔ים (acacia), וָאֶפְסֹ֛ל (and hewed) שְׁנֵי־ (two) לֻחֹ֥ת (tablets) אֲבָנִ֖ים (of stone) כָּרִאשֹׁנִ֑ים (like the first), וָאַ֣עַל (and went up) הָהָ֔רָה (the mountain), וּשְׁנֵ֥י (and the two) הַלֻּחֹ֖ת (tablets) בְּיָדִֽי׃ (were in my hand). 4  וַיִּכְתֹּ֨ב (And He wrote) עַֽל־ (on) הַלֻּחֹ֜ת (the tablets), כַּמִּכְתָּ֣ב (according to the writing) הָרִאשׁ֗וֹן (first), אֵ֚ת (-) עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת (the Ten) הַדְּבָרִ֔ים (Words) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) דִּבֶּר֩ (had spoken) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) אֲלֵיכֶ֥ם (to you⁺) בָּהָ֛ר (in the mountain) מִתּ֥וֹךְ (out of the midst) הָאֵ֖שׁ (of the fire) בְּי֣וֹם (in the day) הַקָּהָ֑ל (of the assembly). וַיִּתְּנֵ֥ם (And gave them) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֵלָֽי׃ (to me). 5  וָאֵ֗פֶן (And I turned) וָֽאֵרֵד֙ (and came down) מִן־ (from) הָהָ֔ר (the mountain), וָֽאָשִׂם֙ (and put) אֶת־ (-) הַלֻּחֹ֔ת (the tablets) בָּאָר֖וֹן (in the ark) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) עָשִׂ֑יתִי (I had made). וַיִּ֣הְיוּ (And they are) שָׁ֔ם (there), כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) צִוַּ֖נִי (commanded me) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

6  וּבְנֵ֣י (And the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel) נָֽסְע֛וּ (journeyed) מִבְּאֵרֹ֥ת (from Beeroth) בְּנֵי־ (Bene-) יַעֲקָ֖ן (jaakan) מוֹסֵרָ֑ה (to Moserah), שָׁ֣ם (where) מֵ֤ת (died) אַהֲרֹן֙ (Aaron), וַיִּקָּבֵ֣ר (and he was buried) שָׁ֔ם (there). וַיְכַהֵ֛ן (And acted as priest) אֶלְעָזָ֥ר (Eleazar) בְּנ֖וֹ (his son) תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ (in his stead). 7  מִשָּׁ֥ם (From there) נָסְע֖וּ (they journeyed) הַגֻּדְגֹּ֑דָה (to Gudgodah), וּמִן־ (and from) הַגֻּדְגֹּ֣דָה (Gudgodah) יָטְבָ֔תָה (to Jotbathah), אֶ֖רֶץ (a land) נַ֥חֲלֵי (of rivers) מָֽיִם׃ (of water).

8  בָּעֵ֣ת (At the time) הַהִ֗וא (that) הִבְדִּ֤יל (separated) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) שֵׁ֣בֶט (the tribe) הַלֵּוִ֔י (of Levi) לָשֵׂ֖את (to bear) אֶת־ (-) אֲר֣וֹן (the ark) בְּרִית־ (of the covenant) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), לַעֲמֹד֩ (to stand) לִפְנֵ֨י (before the face of) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) לְשָֽׁרְתוֹ֙ (to minister to Him), וּלְבָרֵ֣ךְ (and to bless) בִּשְׁמ֔וֹ (in His name), עַ֖ד (to) הַיּ֥וֹם (the day) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this). 9  עַל־ (Upon) כֵּ֞ן (thus) לֹֽא־ (not) הָיָ֧ה (has) לְלֵוִ֛י (Levi) חֵ֥לֶק (portion) וְנַחֲלָ֖ה (and not inheritance) עִם־ (with) אֶחָ֑יו (his brothers); יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) ה֣וּא (is) נַחֲלָת֔וֹ (his inheritance), כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) דִּבֶּ֛ר (spoke) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God) לֽוֹ׃ (to him).

10  וְאָנֹכִ֞י (And I) עָמַ֣דְתִּי (stayed) בָהָ֗ר (in the mountain), כַּיָּמִים֙ (as days) הָרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים (first), אַרְבָּעִ֣ים (forty) י֔וֹם (days) וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים (and forty) לָ֑יְלָה (nights). וַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע (And heard) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֵלַ֗י (to me) גַּ֚ם (also) בַּפַּ֣עַם (at the time) הַהִ֔וא (that); לֹא־ (not) אָבָ֥ה (chose) יְהוָ֖ה (and YHWH) הַשְׁחִיתֶֽךָ׃ (to destroy you).

11  וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֵלַ֔י (to me) ק֛וּם (Arise), לֵ֥ךְ (begin) לְמַסַּ֖ע (in journey) לִפְנֵ֣י (before) הָעָ֑ם (the people), וְיָבֹ֙אוּ֙ (that they may go in) וְיִֽרְשׁ֣וּ (and possess) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתִּי (I swore) לַאֲבֹתָ֖ם (to their fathers) לָתֵ֥ת (to give) לָהֶֽם׃פ (to them).

A Call to Obedience
(Joshua 24:14–28)

12  וְעַתָּה֙ (And now), יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (O Israel), מָ֚ה (what) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) שֹׁאֵ֖ל (does require) מֵעִמָּ֑ךְ (of you) כִּ֣י (except) אִם־ (but) לְ֠יִרְאָה (to fear) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ (your God), לָלֶ֤כֶת (to walk) בְּכָל־ (in all) דְּרָכָיו֙ (His ways), וּלְאַהֲבָ֣ה (and to love) אֹת֔וֹ (Him) וְלַֽעֲבֹד֙ (and to serve) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) בְּכָל־ (with all) לְבָבְךָ֖ (your heart) וּבְכָל־ (and with all) נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ (your soul), 13  לִשְׁמֹ֞ר (and to keep) אֶת־ (-) מִצְוֺ֤ת (the commandments) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH), וְאֶת־ (and) חֻקֹּתָ֔יו (His statutes) אֲשֶׁ֛ר (that) אָנֹכִ֥י (I) מְצַוְּךָ֖ (command you) הַיּ֑וֹם (today) לְט֖וֹב (for good) לָֽךְ׃ (to you)?

14  הֵ֚ן (Behold), לַיהוָ֣ה (unto YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (are the heavens) וּשְׁמֵ֣י (and the heavens) הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם (of the heavens), הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth) וְכָל־ (and all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) בָּֽהּ׃ (is in it). 15  רַ֧ק (Yet) בַּאֲבֹתֶ֛יךָ (in your fathers) חָשַׁ֥ק (delighted) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) לְאַהֲבָ֣ה (to love) אוֹתָ֑ם (them), וַיִּבְחַ֞ר (and He chose) בְּזַרְעָ֣ם (their seed) אַחֲרֵיהֶ֗ם (after them) בָּכֶ֛ם (you⁺) מִכָּל־ (above all) הָעַמִּ֖ים (peoples), כַּיּ֥וֹם (as it is the day) הַזֶּה׃ (this).

16  וּמַלְתֶּ֕ם (And you⁺ shall circumcise) אֵ֖ת (-) עָרְלַ֣ת (the foreskin) לְבַבְכֶ֑ם (of your⁺ heart), וְעָ֨רְפְּכֶ֔ם (and) לֹ֥א (not) תַקְשׁ֖וּ (be stiff-necked) עֽוֹד׃ (anymore). 17  כִּ֚י (For) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ God) ה֚וּא (is) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (the God) הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים (of gods) וַאֲדֹנֵ֖י (and the Lord) הָאֲדֹנִ֑ים (of lords), הָאֵ֨ל (the God) הַגָּדֹ֤ל (great), הַגִּבֹּר֙ (mighty), וְהַנּוֹרָ֔א (and awesome), אֲשֶׁר֙ (who) לֹא־ (not) יִשָּׂ֣א (regards) פָנִ֔ים (persons) וְלֹ֥א (and not) יִקַּ֖ח (takes) שֹֽׁחַד׃ (a bribe). 18  עֹשֶׂ֛ה (He administers) מִשְׁפַּ֥ט (justice for) יָת֖וֹם (the fatherless) וְאַלְמָנָ֑ה (and the widow), וְאֹהֵ֣ב (and He loves) גֵּ֔ר (the sojourner), לָ֥תֶת (giving) ל֖וֹ (to him) לֶ֥חֶם (food) וְשִׂמְלָֽה׃ (and clothing). 19  וַאֲהַבְתֶּ֖ם (And you⁺ shall love) אֶת־ (-) הַגֵּ֑ר (the sojourner), כִּֽי־ (for) גֵרִ֥ים (sojourners) הֱיִיתֶ֖ם (you⁺ were) בְּאֶ֥רֶץ (in the land) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ (of Egypt).

20  אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֧ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ (your God) תִּירָ֖א (you shall fear); אֹת֣וֹ (Him) תַעֲבֹ֑ד (you shall serve), וּב֣וֹ (and to Him) תִדְבָּ֔ק (you shall hold fast), וּבִשְׁמ֖וֹ (and by His name) תִּשָּׁבֵֽעַ׃ (you shall swear). 21  ה֥וּא (He is) תְהִלָּתְךָ֖ (your praise) וְה֣וּא (and He is) אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ (your God), אֲשֶׁר־ (who) עָשָׂ֣ה (has done) אִתְּךָ֗ (for you) אֶת־ (-) הַגְּדֹלֹ֤ת (the great) וְאֶת־ (and) הַנּֽוֹרָאֹת֙ (awesome things) הָאֵ֔לֶּה (these), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) רָא֖וּ (have seen) עֵינֶֽיךָ׃ (your eyes). 22  בְּשִׁבְעִ֣ים (With seventy) נֶ֔פֶשׁ (persons) יָרְד֥וּ (went down) אֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ (Your fathers) מִצְרָ֑יְמָהּ (to Egypt), וְעַתָּ֗ה (and now) שָֽׂמְךָ֙ (has made you) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) כְּכוֹכְבֵ֥י (like the stars) הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (of the heavens) לָרֹֽב׃ (in multitude).
