Clean and Unclean Animals
(Leviticus 11:1–47; Acts 10:9–16)

1  בָּנִ֣ים (Sons) אַתֶּ֔ם (you⁺ are) לַֽיהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם (your⁺ God); לֹ֣א (not) תִתְגֹּֽדְד֗וּ (you⁺ shall cut yourselves), וְלֹֽא־ (and not) תָשִׂ֧ימוּ (make) קָרְחָ֛ה (a baldness) בֵּ֥ין (between) עֵינֵיכֶ֖ם (your⁺ eyes) לָמֵֽת׃ (on behalf of the dead). 2  כִּ֣י (For) עַ֤ם (a people) קָדוֹשׁ֙ (holy) אַתָּ֔ה (you are) לַיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ (your God), וּבְךָ֞ (and you) בָּחַ֣ר (has chosen) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH) לִֽהְי֥וֹת (to be) לוֹ֙ (His) לְעַ֣ם (people), סְגֻלָּ֔ה (a special treasure) מִכֹּל֙ (above all) הָֽעַמִּ֔ים (the peoples) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (who are) עַל־ (on) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ס (of the earth).

3  לֹ֥א (Not) תֹאכַ֖ל (you shall eat) כָּל־ (any) תּוֹעֵבָֽה׃ (detestable thing). 4  זֹ֥את (This is) הַבְּהֵמָ֖ה (the animal) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) תֹּאכֵ֑לוּ (you⁺ may eat):

שׁ֕וֹר (The ox), שֵׂ֥ה (a lamb) כְשָׂבִ֖ים (of the flock), וְשֵׂ֥ה (and) עִזִּֽים׃ (the goat),

5  אַיָּ֥ל (the deer), וּצְבִ֖י (and the gazelle), וְיַחְמ֑וּר (and the roe deer),

וְאַקּ֥וֹ (and the wild goat), וְדִישֹׁ֖ן (and the ibex), וּתְא֥וֹ (and the antelope),

וָזָֽמֶר׃ (and the mountain sheep).

6  וְכָל־ (And every) בְּהֵמָ֞ה (animal) מַפְרֶ֣סֶת (dividing) פַּרְסָ֗ה (hoof), וְשֹׁסַ֤עַת (and having split) שֶׁ֙סַע֙ (the cleft) שְׁתֵּ֣י (into two) פְרָס֔וֹת (hooves), מַעֲלַ֥ת (bringing up) גֵּרָ֖ה (the cud) בַּבְּהֵמָ֑ה (among the animals), אֹתָ֖הּ (-) תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃ (you⁺ may eat).

7  אַ֣ךְ (Nevertheless) אֶת־ (-) זֶ֞ה (this) לֹ֤א (not) תֹֽאכְלוּ֙ (you⁺ shall eat) מִמַּֽעֲלֵ֣י (of those bringing up) הַגֵּרָ֔ה (the cud), וּמִמַּפְרִיסֵ֥י (and of those dividing) הַפַּרְסָ֖ה (the hoof) הַשְּׁסוּעָ֑ה (cloven) אֶֽת־ (-):

הַ֠גָּמָל (The camel),

וְאֶת־ (and) הָאַרְנֶ֨בֶת (the hare),

וְאֶת־ (and) הַשָּׁפָ֜ן (the rock badger),

כִּֽי־ (for) מַעֲלֵ֧ה (are bringing up) גֵרָ֣ה (the cud) הֵ֗מָּה (they), וּפַרְסָה֙ (and hoof) לֹ֣א (not) הִפְרִ֔יסוּ (have divided); טְמֵאִ֥ים (unclean) הֵ֖ם (they are) לָכֶֽם׃ (for you⁺). 8  וְאֶת־ (And) הַ֠חֲזִיר (the swine), כִּֽי־ (for) מַפְרִ֨יס (is dividing) פַּרְסָ֥ה (the hoof), הוּא֙ (it) וְלֹ֣א (and not) גֵרָ֔ה (bringing up the cud). טָמֵ֥א (Unclean) ה֖וּא (it is) לָכֶ֑ם (for you⁺). מִבְּשָׂרָם֙ (Their flesh) לֹ֣א (not) תֹאכֵ֔לוּ (you⁺ shall eat), וּבְנִבְלָתָ֖ם (and their carcass) לֹ֥א (not) תִגָּֽעוּ׃ס (you⁺ shall touch).

9  אֶת־ (-) זֶה֙ (this) תֹּֽאכְל֔וּ (you⁺ may eat) מִכֹּ֖ל (of all) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that are) בַּמָּ֑יִם (in the waters): כֹּ֧ל (All) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) ל֛וֹ (have) סְנַפִּ֥יר (fins) וְקַשְׂקֶ֖שֶׂת (and scales) תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃ (you⁺ may eat), 10  וְכֹ֨ל (and) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (whatever) אֵֽין־ (not) ל֛וֹ (does have) סְנַפִּ֥יר (fins) וְקַשְׂקֶ֖שֶׂת (and scales) לֹ֣א (not) תֹאכֵ֑לוּ (you⁺ shall eat); טָמֵ֥א (unclean) ה֖וּא (it is) לָכֶֽם׃ס (for you⁺).

11  כָּל־ (All) צִפּ֥וֹר (birds) טְהֹרָ֖ה (clean) תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃ (you⁺ may eat). 12  וְזֶ֕ה (And these are they) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) לֹֽא־ (not) תֹאכְל֖וּ (you⁺ shall eat) מֵהֶ֑ם (of):

הַנֶּ֥שֶׁר (The eagle), וְהַפֶּ֖רֶס (and the vulture), וְהָֽעָזְנִיָּֽה׃ (and the buzzard),

13  וְהָרָאָה֙ (and the red kite), וְאֶת־ (and) הָ֣אַיָּ֔ה (the falcon), וְהַדַּיָּ֖ה (and the kite) לְמִינָֽהּ׃ (after its kind),

14  וְאֵ֥ת (and) כָּל־ (every) עֹרֵ֖ב (raven) לְמִינֽוֹ׃ (after its kind),

15  וְאֵת֙ (and) בַּ֣ת (the daughter) הַֽיַּעֲנָ֔ה (of the ostrich), וְאֶת־ (and) הַתַּחְמָ֖ס (the screech owl), וְאֶת־ (and) הַשָּׁ֑חַף (the gull), וְאֶת־ (and) הַנֵּ֖ץ (the hawk) לְמִינֵֽהוּ׃ (after its kind),

16  אֶת־ (-) הַכּ֥וֹס (the little owl), וְאֶת־ (and) הַיַּנְשׁ֖וּף (the screech owl), וְהַתִּנְשָֽׁמֶת׃ (and the white owl),

17  וְהַקָּאָ֥ת (and the desert owl), וְאֶֽת־ (and) הָרָחָ֖מָה (the osprey), וְאֶת־ (and) הַשָּׁלָֽךְ׃ (the cormorant),

18  וְהַ֣חֲסִידָ֔ה (and the stork), וְהָאֲנָפָ֖ה (and the heron) לְמִינָ֑הּ (after its kind),

וְהַדּוּכִיפַ֖ת (and the hoopoe), וְהָעֲטַלֵּֽף׃ (and the bat).

19  וְכֹל֙ (And every) שֶׁ֣רֶץ (swarming thing) הָע֔וֹף (that flies) טָמֵ֥א (unclean) ה֖וּא (is) לָכֶ֑ם (for you⁺); לֹ֖א (not) יֵאָכֵֽלוּ׃ (they shall be eaten). 20  כָּל־ (All) ע֥וֹף (birds) טָה֖וֹר (clean) תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃ (you⁺ may eat).

21  לֹ֣א (Not) תֹאכְל֣וּ (you⁺ shall eat) כָל־ (of any) נְ֠בֵלָה (carcass); לַגֵּ֨ר (to the sojourner) אֲשֶׁר־ (who is) בִּשְׁעָרֶ֜יךָ (within your gates) תִּתְּנֶ֣נָּה (you may give it) וַאֲכָלָ֗הּ (that he may eat it), א֤וֹ (or) מָכֹר֙ (you may sell it) לְנָכְרִ֔י (to a foreigner). כִּ֣י (For) עַ֤ם (a people) קָדוֹשׁ֙ (holy) אַתָּ֔ה (you are) לַיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ (your God).

לֹֽא־ (Not) תְבַשֵּׁ֥ל (you shall boil) גְּדִ֖י (a young goat) בַּחֲלֵ֥ב (in the milk) אִמּֽוֹ׃פ (of its mother).

Giving Tithes
(Leviticus 27:30–34; Deuteronomy 26:1–15; Nehemiah 13:10–14)

22  עַשֵּׂ֣ר (Tithing) תְּעַשֵּׂ֔ר (You must tithe) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) תְּבוּאַ֣ת (the increase) זַרְעֶ֑ךָ (of your seed) הַיֹּצֵ֥א (that produces) הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה (the field) שָׁנָ֥ה (year) שָׁנָֽה׃ (by year). 23  וְאָכַלְתָּ֞ (And you shall eat) לִפְנֵ֣י׀ (before the face of) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ (your God), בַּמָּק֣וֹם (in the place) אֲשֶׁר־ (where) יִבְחַר֮ (He chooses) לְשַׁכֵּ֣ן (to dwell) שְׁמ֣וֹ (His Name) שָׁם֒ (there), מַעְשַׂ֤ר (the tithe) דְּגָֽנְךָ֙ (of your grain), תִּֽירֹשְׁךָ֣ (and your new wine), וְיִצְהָרֶ֔ךָ (and your oil), וּבְכֹרֹ֥ת (and of the firstborn) בְּקָרְךָ֖ (of your herd) וְצֹאנֶ֑ךָ (and your flock); לְמַ֣עַן (so that) תִּלְמַ֗ד (you may learn) לְיִרְאָ֛ה (to fear) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God) כָּל־ (all) הַיָּמִֽים׃ (the days).

24  וְכִֽי־ (But if) יִרְבֶּ֨ה (is too long) מִמְּךָ֜ (for you) הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ (the journey), כִּ֣י (so that) לֹ֣א (not) תוּכַ֘ל (you are able) שְׂאֵתוֹ֒ (to carry it), כִּֽי־ (or if) יִרְחַ֤ק (is too far) מִמְּךָ֙ (from you) הַמָּק֔וֹם (the place) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (where) יִבְחַר֙ (chooses) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) לָשׂ֥וּם (to put) שְׁמ֖וֹ (His Name) שָׁ֑ם (there) כִּ֥י (when) יְבָרֶכְךָ֖ (has blessed you) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ (your God). 25  וְנָתַתָּ֖ה (And you shall exchange it) בַּכָּ֑סֶף (for silver), וְצַרְתָּ֤ (and take) הַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ (the silver) בְּיָ֣דְךָ֔ (in your hand), וְהָֽלַכְתָּ֙ (and go) אֶל־ (to) הַמָּק֔וֹם (the place) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) יִבְחַ֛ר (chooses). יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God) בּֽוֹ׃ (in it). 26  וְנָתַתָּ֣ה (And you shall spend) הַכֶּ֡סֶף (the silver) בְּכֹל֩ (for) אֲשֶׁר־ (whatever) תְּאַוֶּ֨ה (desires) נַפְשְׁךָ֜ (your soul), בַּבָּקָ֣ר (for oxen), וּבַצֹּ֗אן (or for sheep), וּבַיַּ֙יִן֙ (or for wine), וּבַשֵּׁכָ֔ר (or for strong drink), וּבְכֹ֛ל (or for anything) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) תִּֽשְׁאָלְךָ֖ (desires) נַפְשֶׁ֑ךָ (your soul); וְאָכַ֣לְתָּ (and you shall eat) שָּׁ֗ם (there) לִפְנֵי֙ (before the face of) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God), וְשָׂמַחְתָּ֖ (and you shall rejoice)— אַתָּ֥ה (you) וּבֵיתֶֽךָ׃ (and your house). 27  וְהַלֵּוִ֥י (And the Levite) אֲשֶׁר־ (who is) בִּשְׁעָרֶ֖יךָ (within your gates) לֹ֣א (not) תַֽעַזְבֶ֑נּוּ (you shall forsake), כִּ֣י (for) אֵ֥ין (not) ל֛וֹ (is unto him) חֵ֥לֶק (a portion) וְנַחֲלָ֖ה (or inheritance) עִמָּֽךְ׃ס (with you).

28  מִקְצֵ֣ה׀ (At the end) שָׁלֹ֣שׁ (of three) שָׁנִ֗ים (years) תּוֹצִיא֙ (you shall bring out) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) מַעְשַׂר֙ (the tithe) תְּבוּאָ֣תְךָ֔ (of your produce) בַּשָּׁנָ֖ה (of the year) הַהִ֑וא (that) וְהִנַּחְתָּ֖ (and store it up) בִּשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃ (within your gates). 29  וּבָ֣א (And may come) הַלֵּוִ֡י (the Levite), כִּ֣י (for) אֵֽין־ (not) לוֹ֩ (is to him) חֵ֨לֶק (a portion) וְנַחֲלָ֜ה (or inheritance) עִמָּ֗ךְ (with you)— וְ֠הַגֵּר (and the sojourner), וְהַיָּת֤וֹם (and the fatherless), וְהָֽאַלְמָנָה֙ (and the widow) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who is) בִּשְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ (within your gates). וְאָכְל֖וּ (And they shall eat) וְשָׂבֵ֑עוּ (and be satisfied), לְמַ֤עַן (that) יְבָרֶכְךָ֙ (may bless you) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) בְּכָל־ (in all) מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה (the work) יָדְךָ֖ (of your hand) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) תַּעֲשֶֽׂה׃ס (you do).
