Vengeance on Midian

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  נְקֹ֗ם (Avenge) נִקְמַת֙ (the vengeance) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) מֵאֵ֖ת (against) הַמִּדְיָנִ֑ים (the Midianite); אַחַ֖ר (afterward) תֵּאָסֵ֥ף (you shall be gathered) אֶל־ (to) עַמֶּֽיךָ׃ (your people).

3  וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר (And spoke) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) אֶל־ (to) הָעָ֣ם (the people), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), הֵחָלְצ֧וּ (Arm) מֵאִתְּכֶ֛ם (some) אֲנָשִׁ֖ים (of your men) לַצָּבָ֑א (for war), וְיִהְיוּ֙ (that they may go) עַל־ (against) מִדְיָ֔ן (the Midianite), לָתֵ֥ת (to put) נִקְמַת־ (the vengeance) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) בְּמִדְיָֽן׃ (on Midian). 4  אֶ֚לֶף (A thousand) לַמַּטֶּ֔ה (from a tribe), אֶ֖לֶף (a thousand) לַמַּטֶּ֑ה (from a tribe) לְכֹל֙ (to all) מַטּ֣וֹת (the tribes) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) תִּשְׁלְח֖וּ (you⁺ shall send) לַצָּבָֽא׃ (to the war).

5  וַיִּמָּֽסְרוּ֙ (And there were given) מֵאַלְפֵ֣י (out of the thousands) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), אֶ֖לֶף (a thousand) לַמַּטֶּ֑ה (from a tribe), שְׁנֵים־ (two) עָשָׂ֥ר (and ten) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) חֲלוּצֵ֥י (armed) צָבָֽא׃ (for war). 6  וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח (And sent) אֹתָ֥ם (them) מֹשֶׁ֛ה (Moses) אֶ֥לֶף (a thousand) לַמַּטֶּ֖ה (from a tribe) לַצָּבָ֑א (to the war), אֹ֠תָם (he sent them) וְאֶת־ (and along with) פִּ֨ינְחָ֜ס (Phinehas) בֶּן־ (son) אֶלְעָזָ֤ר (of Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵן֙ (the priest), לַצָּבָ֔א (to the war), וּכְלֵ֥י (and vessels) הַקֹּ֛דֶשׁ (the holy) וַחֲצֹצְר֥וֹת (and the trumpets) הַתְּרוּעָ֖ה (the signal) בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ (in his hand).

7  וַֽיִּצְבְּאוּ֙ (And they warred) עַל־ (against) מִדְיָ֔ן (the Midianite), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶׁ֑ה (Moses); וַיַּֽהַרְג֖וּ (and they killed) כָּל־ (all) זָכָֽר׃ (the males). 8  וְאֶת־ (And) מַלְכֵ֨י (the kings) מִדְיָ֜ן (of Midian) הָרְג֣וּ (they killed) עַל־ (with) חַלְלֵיהֶ֗ם (their pierced ones)— אֶת־ (-) אֱוִ֤י (Evi), וְאֶת־ (and) רֶ֙קֶם֙ (Rekem), וְאֶת־ (and) צ֤וּר (Zur), וְאֶת־ (and) חוּר֙ (Hur), וְאֶת־ (and) רֶ֔בַע (Reba)— חֲמֵ֖שֶׁת (five) מַלְכֵ֣י (kings) מִדְיָ֑ן (of Midian); וְאֵת֙ (and) בִּלְעָ֣ם (Balaam) בֶּן־ (son) בְּע֔וֹר (of Beor) הָרְג֖וּ (they also killed) בֶּחָֽרֶב׃ (with the sword).

9  וַיִּשְׁבּ֧וּ (And took captive) בְנֵי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל (of Israel) אֶת־ (-) נְשֵׁ֥י (the women) מִדְיָ֖ן (of Midian), וְאֶת־ (and with) טַפָּ֑ם (their little ones), וְאֵ֨ת (and) כָּל־ (all) בְּהֶמְתָּ֧ם (their cattle), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) מִקְנֵהֶ֛ם (their flocks), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) חֵילָ֖ם (their goods) בָּזָֽזוּ׃ (they plundered). 10  וְאֵ֤ת (And also) כָּל־ (all) עָרֵיהֶם֙ (the cities) בְּמ֣וֹשְׁבֹתָ֔ם (where they dwelt), וְאֵ֖ת (and) כָּל־ (all) טִֽירֹתָ֑ם (their forts), שָׂרְפ֖וּ (they burned) בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ (with the fire). 11  וַיִּקְחוּ֙ (And they took) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַשָּׁלָ֔ל (the spoil), וְאֵ֖ת (and) כָּל־ (all) הַמַּלְק֑וֹחַ (the plunder) בָּאָדָ֖ם (of the man) וּבַבְּהֵמָֽה׃ (and the beast).

12  וַיָּבִ֡אוּ (And they brought) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁה֩ (Moses) וְאֶל־ (and to) אֶלְעָזָ֨ר (Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֜ן (the priest) וְאֶל־ (and to) עֲדַ֣ת (the congregation) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel) אֶת־ (-) הַשְּׁבִ֧י (the captives), וְאֶת־ (and) הַמַּלְק֛וֹחַ (the plunder), וְאֶת־ (and) הַשָּׁלָ֖ל (the spoil)— אֶל־ (to) הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה (the camp) אֶל־ (in) עַֽרְבֹ֣ת (the plains) מוֹאָ֔ב (of Moab), אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which) עַל־ (are by) יַרְדֵּ֥ן (the Jordan) יְרֵחֽוֹ׃ס (near Jericho). 13  וַיֵּ֨צְא֜וּ (And went) מֹשֶׁ֨ה (Moses) וְאֶלְעָזָ֧ר (and Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֛ן (the priest) וְכָל־ (and all) נְשִׂיאֵ֥י (the leaders) הָעֵדָ֖ה (of the congregation) לִקְרָאתָ֑ם (to meet them), אֶל־ (toward) מִח֖וּץ (the outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃ (of the camp).

14  וַיִּקְצֹ֣ף (And was angry) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) עַ֖ל (with) פְּקוּדֵ֣י (the officers) הֶחָ֑יִל (of the army), שָׂרֵ֤י (chiefs) הָאֲלָפִים֙ (of the thousands) וְשָׂרֵ֣י (and chiefs) הַמֵּא֔וֹת (of the hundreds), הַבָּאִ֖ים (who were coming in) מִצְּבָ֥א (from) הַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ (the battle). 15  וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And said) אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (to them) מֹשֶׁ֑ה (Moses) הַֽחִיִּיתֶ֖ם (Have you⁺ kept alive) כָּל־ (every) נְקֵבָֽה׃ (female)? 16  הֵ֣ן (Behold), הֵ֜נָּה (these women) הָי֨וּ (caused) לִבְנֵ֤י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) בִּדְבַ֣ר (through the counsel) בִּלְעָ֔ם (of Balaam) לִמְסָר־ (to) מַ֥עַל (trespass) בַּיהוָ֖ה (against YHWH) עַל־ (in) דְּבַר־ (the incident) פְּע֑וֹר (of Peor), וַתְּהִ֥י (and there was) הַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה (a plague) בַּעֲדַ֥ת (among the congregation) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 17  וְעַתָּ֕ה (And now) הִרְג֥וּ (kill) כָל־ (every) זָכָ֖ר (male) בַּטָּ֑ף (among the little ones), וְכָל־ (and every) אִשָּׁ֗ה (woman) יֹדַ֥עַת (who has known) אִ֛ישׁ (a man) לְמִשְׁכַּ֥ב (by lying) זָכָ֖ר (with him) הֲרֹֽגוּ׃ (you must kill). 18  וְכֹל֙ (And every) הַטַּ֣ף (child), בַּנָּשִׁ֔ים (among the women) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) לֹא־ (not) יָדְע֖וּ (have known) מִשְׁכַּ֣ב (the bed) זָכָ֑ר (of a man), הַחֲי֖וּ (you shall keep alive) לָכֶֽם׃ (for yourselves).

19  וְאַתֶּ֗ם (And as for you⁺), חֲנ֛וּ (remain) מִח֥וּץ (outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה (of the camp) שִׁבְעַ֣ת (seven) יָמִ֑ים (days); כֹּל֩ (anyone) הֹרֵ֨ג (who kills) נֶ֜פֶשׁ (a soul) וְכֹ֣ל׀ (and anyone) נֹגֵ֣עַ (who touches) בֶּֽחָלָ֗ל (the slain) תִּֽתְחַטְּא֞וּ (you⁺ shall cleanse yourselves from sin) בַּיּ֤וֹם (on the day) הַשְּׁלִישִׁי֙ (third) וּבַיּ֣וֹם (and on the day) הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י (seventh)— אַתֶּ֖ם (you⁺) וּשְׁבִיכֶֽם׃ (and your⁺ captives). 20  וְכָל־ (And every) בֶּ֧גֶד (garment), וְכָל־ (and everything) כְּלִי־ (made) ע֛וֹר (of leather), וְכָל־ (and everything) מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה (woven) עִזִּ֖ים (of goats’ hair), וְכָל־ (and every) כְּלִי־ (vessel) עֵ֑ץ (wood) תִּתְחַטָּֽאוּ׃ס (you⁺ shall cleanse yourselves from sin).

21  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) אֶלְעָזָ֤ר (Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵן֙ (the priest) אֶל־ (to) אַנְשֵׁ֣י (the men) הַצָּבָ֔א (of war) הַבָּאִ֖ים (who had gone) לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה (to the battle), זֹ֚את (This) חֻקַּ֣ת (is the ordinance) הַתּוֹרָ֔ה (of the law) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֥ה (has commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses): 22  אַ֥ךְ (Only) אֶת־ (-) הַזָּהָ֖ב (the gold), וְאֶת־ (and) הַכָּ֑סֶף (the silver), אֶֽת־ (-) הַנְּחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ (the bronze), אֶת־ (-) הַבַּרְזֶ֔ל (the iron), אֶֽת־ (-) הַבְּדִ֖יל (the tin), וְאֶת־ (and) הָעֹפָֽרֶת׃ (the lead)— 23  כָּל־ (every) דָּבָ֞ר (thing) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) יָבֹ֣א (can endure) בָאֵ֗שׁ (the fire)— תַּעֲבִ֤ירוּ (you⁺ shall put) בָאֵשׁ֙ (through the fire), וְטָהֵ֔ר (and it shall be clean). אַ֕ךְ (Nevertheless) בְּמֵ֥י (with the water) נִדָּ֖ה (of purification) יִתְחַטָּ֑א (it shall be cleansed from sin). וְכֹ֨ל (And all) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that) לֹֽא־ (not) יָבֹ֛א (can endure) בָּאֵ֖שׁ (the fire) תַּעֲבִ֥ירוּ (you⁺ shall put) בַמָּֽיִם׃ (through the water). 24  וְכִבַּסְתֶּ֧ם (And you⁺ shall wash) בִּגְדֵיכֶ֛ם (your⁺ clothes) בַּיּ֥וֹם (on the day) הַשְּׁבִיעִ֖י (seventh) וּטְהַרְתֶּ֑ם (and be clean), וְאַחַ֖ר (and afterward) תָּבֹ֥אוּ (you⁺ may come) אֶל־ (into) הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃פ (the camp).

Division of the Spoils

25  וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 26  שָׂ֗א (Count up) אֵ֣ת (-) רֹ֤אשׁ (the sum) מַלְק֙וֹחַ֙ (of the plunder) הַשְּׁבִ֔י (that was taken) בָּאָדָ֖ם (of the man) וּבַבְּהֵמָ֑ה (and the beast), אַתָּה֙ (you) וְאֶלְעָזָ֣ר (and Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֔ן (the priest) וְרָאשֵׁ֖י (and the heads) אֲב֥וֹת (of the fathers) הָעֵדָֽה׃ (of the congregation). 27  וְחָצִ֙יתָ֙ (And divide) אֶת־ (-) הַמַּלְק֔וֹחַ (the plunder) בֵּ֚ין (between) תֹּפְשֵׂ֣י (those handling) הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה (the war) הַיֹּצְאִ֖ים (who went out) לַצָּבָ֑א (to the battle), וּבֵ֖ין (and between) כָּל־ (all) הָעֵדָֽה׃ (the congregation).

28  וַהֲרֵמֹתָ֨ (And raise) מֶ֜כֶס (a tribute) לַֽיהוָ֗ה (for YHWH) מֵאֵ֞ת (from) אַנְשֵׁ֤י (the men) הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ (of war) הַיֹּצְאִ֣ים (who went out) לַצָּבָ֔א (to battle): אֶחָ֣ד (One) נֶ֔פֶשׁ (soul) מֵחֲמֵ֖שׁ (of every five) הַמֵּא֑וֹת (hundred) מִן־ (of) הָאָדָם֙ (the persons), וּמִן־ (and) הַבָּקָ֔ר (the cattle), וּמִן־ (and) הַחֲמֹרִ֖ים (the donkeys), וּמִן־ (and) הַצֹּֽאן׃ (the sheep). 29  מִמַּֽחֲצִיתָ֖ם (From their half) תִּקָּ֑חוּ (you⁺ shall take) וְנָתַתָּ֛ה (and give it) לְאֶלְעָזָ֥ר (to Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֖ן (the priest) תְּרוּמַ֥ת (as a contribution to) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

30  וּמִמַּחֲצִ֨ת (And from half), בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל (of Israel) תִּקַּ֣ח׀ (you shall take) אֶחָ֣ד׀ (one) אָחֻ֣ז (portion) מִן־ (of every) הַחֲמִשִּׁ֗ים (fifty), מִן־ (of) הָאָדָ֧ם (the persons), מִן־ (of) הַבָּקָ֛ר (the cattle), מִן־ (of) הַחֲמֹרִ֥ים (the donkeys), וּמִן־ (and) הַצֹּ֖אן (of the sheep), מִכָּל־ (from all) הַבְּהֵמָ֑ה (the livestock), וְנָתַתָּ֤ה (and give) אֹתָם֙ (them) לַלְוִיִּ֔ם (to the Levites) שֹׁמְרֵ֕י (who keep) מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת (charge) מִשְׁכַּ֥ן (of the tabernacle) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

31  וַיַּ֣עַשׂ (And did) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) וְאֶלְעָזָ֖ר (and Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֑ן (the priest) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses). 32  וַיְהִי֙ (And this was) הַמַּלְק֔וֹחַ (the plunder) יֶ֣תֶר (remaining from) הַבָּ֔ז (the plunder) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) בָּזְז֖וּ (had taken) עַ֣ם (the men) הַצָּבָ֑א (of war):

צֹ֗אן (Sheep) שֵׁשׁ־ (six) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) אֶ֛לֶף (thousand) וְשִׁבְעִ֥ים (and seventy) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וַחֲמֵֽשֶׁת־ (and five) אֲלָפִֽים׃ (thousand),

33  וּבָקָ֕ר (and of the herd) שְׁנַ֥יִם (two) וְשִׁבְעִ֖ים (and seventy) אָֽלֶף׃ (thousand),

34  וַחֲמֹרִ֕ים (and donkeys) אֶחָ֥ד (one) וְשִׁשִּׁ֖ים (and sixty) אָֽלֶף׃ (thousand),

35  וְנֶ֣פֶשׁ (and) אָדָ֔ם (persons) מִן־ (of) הַ֨נָּשִׁ֔ים (the women) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) לֹֽא־ (not) יָדְע֖וּ (had known) מִשְׁכַּ֣ב (by lying with) זָכָ֑ר (a man), כָּל־ (all) נֶ֕פֶשׁ (the persons), שְׁנַ֥יִם (two) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים (and thirty) אָֽלֶף׃ (thousand).

36  וַתְּהִי֙ (And was) הַֽמֶּחֱצָ֔ה (the half) חֵ֕לֶק (the portion for) הַיֹּצְאִ֖ים (those who had gone out)

בַּצָּבָ֑א (to war) מִסְפַּ֣ר (the number): הַצֹּ֗אן (Of the sheep) שְׁלֹשׁ־ (three) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) אֶ֙לֶף֙ (thousand) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים (and thirty) אֶ֔לֶף (thousand) וְשִׁבְעַ֥ת (and seven) אֲלָפִ֖ים (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred), 37  וַיְהִ֛י (and was) הַמֶּ֥כֶס (the tribute) לַֽיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) מִן־ (of) הַצֹּ֑אן (the sheep) שֵׁ֥שׁ (six) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) חָמֵ֥שׁ (five) וְשִׁבְעִֽים׃ (and seventy).

38  וְהַ֨בָּקָ֔ר (And the cattle) שִׁשָּׁ֥ה (six) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים (and thirty) אָ֑לֶף (thousand), וּמִכְסָ֥ם (and their tribute) לַיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) שְׁנַ֥יִם (two) וְשִׁבְעִֽים׃ (and seventy).

39  וַחֲמֹרִ֕ים (And the donkeys were) שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים (thirty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֣שׁ (and five) מֵא֑וֹת (hundred), וּמִכְסָ֥ם (and their tribute) לַֽיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) אֶחָ֥ד (one) וְשִׁשִּֽׁים׃ (and sixty).

40  וְנֶ֣פֶשׁ (And) אָדָ֔ם (the persons were) שִׁשָּׁ֥ה (six) עָשָׂ֖ר (and ten) אָ֑לֶף (thousand), וּמִכְסָם֙ (and their tribute) לַֽיהוָ֔ה (to YHWH) שְׁנַ֥יִם (two) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים (and thirty) נָֽפֶשׁ׃ (persons).

41  וַיִּתֵּ֣ן (And gave) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) מֶ֙כֶס֙ (the tribute)— תְּרוּמַ֣ת (the contribution) יְהוָ֔ה (to YHWH)— לְאֶלְעָזָ֖ר (to Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֑ן (the priest), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

42  וּמִֽמַּחֲצִ֖ית (And from half), בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel) אֲשֶׁר֙ (which) חָצָ֣ה (separated) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) מִן־ (from), הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים (the men) הַצֹּבְאִֽים׃ (who fought), 43  וַתְּהִ֛י (and was) מֶחֱצַ֥ת (the half belonging to) הָעֵדָ֖ה (the congregation):

מִן־ (Of) הַצֹּ֑אן (the flock) שְׁלֹשׁ־ (three) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) אֶ֙לֶף֙ (thousand) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים (and thirty) אֶ֔לֶף (thousand) שִׁבְעַ֥ת (seven) אֲלָפִ֖ים (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred),

44  וּבָקָ֕ר (and of the herd) שִׁשָּׁ֥ה (six) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים (and thirty) אָֽלֶף׃ (thousand),

45  וַחֲמֹרִ֕ים (and donkeys) שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים (thirty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred),

46  וְנֶ֣פֶשׁ (and) אָדָ֔ם (persons) שִׁשָּׁ֥ה (six) עָשָׂ֖ר (and ten) אָֽלֶף׃ (thousand).

47  וַיִּקַּ֨ח (And took) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) מִמַּחֲצִ֣ת (half) בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel) אֶת־ (-) הָֽאָחֻז֙ (the possession) אֶחָ֣ד (one) מִן־ (of every) הַחֲמִשִּׁ֔ים (fifty), מִן־ (from) הָאָדָ֖ם (the man) וּמִן־ (and) הַבְּהֵמָ֑ה (the beast), וַיִּתֵּ֨ן (and he gave) אֹתָ֜ם (them) לַלְוִיִּ֗ם (to the Levites) שֹֽׁמְרֵי֙ (who kept) מִשְׁמֶ֙רֶת֙ (charge) מִשְׁכַּ֣ן (of the tabernacle) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

48  וַֽיִּקְרְבוּ֙ (And came near) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses), הַפְּקֻדִ֕ים (the officers) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (who were) לְאַלְפֵ֣י (over thousands) הַצָּבָ֑א (of the army), שָׂרֵ֥י (captains) הָאֲלָפִ֖ים (of the thousands) וְשָׂרֵ֥י (and captains) הַמֵּאֽוֹת׃ (of the hundreds), 49  וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ (and they said) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses), עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ (Your servants) נָֽשְׂא֗וּ (have taken) אֶת־ (-) רֹ֛אשׁ (a count) אַנְשֵׁ֥י (of the men) הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה (of war) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who are) בְּיָדֵ֑נוּ (under our command), וְלֹא־ (and not) נִפְקַ֥ד (is missing) מִמֶּ֖נּוּ (of us) אִֽישׁ׃ (a man). 50  וַנַּקְרֵ֞ב (And we have brought) אֶת־ (-) קָרְבַּ֣ן (an offering for) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH), אִישׁ֩ (every man) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (from that which) מָצָ֤א (he has found) כְלִֽי־ (of ornaments) זָהָב֙ (of gold), אֶצְעָדָ֣ה (armlets), וְצָמִ֔יד (and bracelets), טַבַּ֖עַת (and signet rings), עָגִ֣יל (and earrings), וְכוּמָ֑ז (and necklaces), לְכַפֵּ֥ר (to make atonement) עַל־ (upon) נַפְשֹׁתֵ֖ינוּ (our souls) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

51  וַיִּקַּ֨ח (And received) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) וְאֶלְעָזָ֧ר (and Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵ֛ן (the priest) אֶת־ (-) הַזָּהָ֖ב (the gold) מֵֽאִתָּ֑ם (from them)— כֹּ֖ל (all) כְּלִ֥י (the ornaments) מַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ (fashioned). 52  וַיְהִ֣י׀ (And was) כָּל־ (all) זְהַ֣ב (the gold) הַתְּרוּמָ֗ה (of the contribution) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) הֵרִ֙ימוּ֙ (they lifted up) לַֽיהוָ֔ה (to YHWH) שִׁשָּׁ֨ה (six) עָשָׂ֥ר (and ten) אֶ֛לֶף (thousand) שְׁבַע־ (seven) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) וַחֲמִשִּׁ֖ים (and fifty) שָׁ֑קֶל (shekels). מֵאֵת֙ (From) שָׂרֵ֣י (captains) הָֽאֲלָפִ֔ים (of the thousands) וּמֵאֵ֖ת (and) שָׂרֵ֥י (captains) הַמֵּאֽוֹת׃ (of the hundreds). 53  אַנְשֵׁי֙ (The men) הַצָּבָ֔א (of war) בָּזְז֖וּ (had taken spoil), אִ֥ישׁ (every man) לֽוֹ׃ (for himself). 54  וַיִּקַּ֨ח (And received) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) וְאֶלְעָזָ֤ר (and Eleazar) הַכֹּהֵן֙ (the priest) אֶת־ (-) הַזָּהָ֔ב (the gold) מֵאֵ֛ת (from) שָׂרֵ֥י (the captains) הָאֲלָפִ֖ים (of the thousands) וְהַמֵּא֑וֹת (and of the hundreds), וַיָּבִ֤אוּ (and brought) אֹתוֹ֙ (it) אֶל־ (into) אֹ֣הֶל (the Tent) מוֹעֵ֔ד (of Meeting) זִכָּר֥וֹן (as a memorial) לִבְנֵֽי־ (for the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָֽה׃פ (YHWH).
