1  Καὶ (And) ἐξῆλθεν (He went out) ἐκεῖθεν (from there), καὶ (and) ἔρχεται (came) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) πατρίδα (hometown) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἀκολουθοῦσιν (follow) αὐτῷ (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him). 2  καὶ (And) γενομένου (on having come) σαββάτου (the Sabbath) ἤρξατο (He began) διδάσκειν (to teach) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) συναγωγῇ (synagogue)· καὶ (and) οἱ (-) πολλοὶ (many) ἀκούοντες (hearing) ἐξεπλήσσοντο (were astonished) λέγοντες (saying)· Πόθεν (From where) τούτῳ (to this man) ταῦτα (are these things), καὶ (and) τίς (what is) ἡ (the) σοφία (wisdom) ἡ (-) δοθεῖσα (having been given) τούτῳ (to Him)? καὶ (and) αἱ (the) δυνάμεις (miracles) τοιαῦται (such as) διὰ (by) τῶν (the) χειρῶν (hands) αὐτοῦ (of Him) γινόμεναι (are done)? 3  οὐχ (Not) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) τέκτων (carpenter), ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) τῆς (-) Μαρίας (of Mary) καὶ (and) ἀδελφὸς (brother) Ἰακώβου (of James) καὶ (and) Ἰωσῆτος (Joses) καὶ (and) Ἰούδα (Judas) καὶ (and) Σίμωνος (Simon)? καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) εἰσὶν (are) αἱ (the) ἀδελφαὶ (sisters) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὧδε (here) πρὸς (with) ἡμᾶς (us)? καὶ (And) ἐσκανδαλίζοντο (they were taking offense) ἐν (at) αὐτῷ (Him).

4  Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὅτι (-) Οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (is) προφήτης (a prophet) ἄτιμος (without honor) εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πατρίδι (hometown) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) ἐν (among) τοῖς (-) συγγενεῦσιν (relatives) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) οἰκίᾳ (house) αὐτοῦ (of him). 5  καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἐδύνατο (He was able) ἐκεῖ (there) ποιῆσαι (to do) οὐδεμίαν (not one) δύναμιν (miracle), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὀλίγοις (on a few) ἀρρώστοις (of the sick) ἐπιθεὶς (having laid) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) ἐθεράπευσεν (He healed them). 6  καὶ (And) ἐθαύμαζεν (He marveled) διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) ἀπιστίαν (unbelief) αὐτῶν (of them).

Καὶ (And) περιῆγεν (He was going) τὰς (the) κώμας (villages) κύκλῳ (around) διδάσκων (teaching).

10  Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ὅπου (Wherever) ἐὰν (if) εἰσέλθητε (you⁺ may enter) εἰς (into) οἰκίαν (a house), ἐκεῖ (there) μένετε (remain) ἕως (until) ἂν (-) ἐξέλθητε (you⁺ may go out) ἐκεῖθεν (from there). 11  καὶ (And) ὃς (whatever) ἂν (-) τόπος (place) μὴ (not) δέξηται (may receive) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) μηδὲ (nor) ἀκούσωσιν (hear) ὑμῶν (you⁺), ἐκπορευόμενοι (going out) ἐκεῖθεν (from there) ἐκτινάξατε (shake off) τὸν (the) χοῦν (dust) τὸν (that is) ὑποκάτω (under) τῶν (the) ποδῶν (feet) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) εἰς (as) μαρτύριον (a testimony against) αὐτοῖς (them).

12  Καὶ (And) ἐξελθόντες (having gone out) ἐκήρυξαν (they preached) ἵνα (that) μετανοῶσιν (they should repent), 13  καὶ (And) δαιμόνια (demons) πολλὰ (many) ἐξέβαλλον (they were casting out), καὶ (and) ἤλειφον (they were anointing) ἐλαίῳ (with oil) πολλοὺς (many) ἀρρώστους (sick) καὶ (and) ἐθεράπευον (healing them).

24  Καὶ (And) ἐξελθοῦσα (having gone out) εἶπεν (she said) τῇ (to the) μητρὶ (mother) αὐτῆς (of her)· Τί (What) αἰτήσωμαι (shall I ask)?

Ἡ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (she said)· Τὴν (The) κεφαλὴν (head) Ἰωάννου (of John) τοῦ (the one) Βαπτίζοντος (baptizing).

25  Καὶ (And) εἰσελθοῦσα (having entered) εὐθὺς (immediately) μετὰ (with) σπουδῆς (haste) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) βασιλέα (king) ᾐτήσατο (she asked) λέγουσα (saying)· Θέλω (I want) ἵνα (that) ἐξαυτῆς (at once) δῷς (you might give) μοι (to me) ἐπὶ (upon) πίνακι (a platter) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) Ἰωάννου (of John) τοῦ (the) Βαπτιστοῦ (Baptist).

26  Καὶ (And) περίλυπος (very sorrowful) γενόμενος (having been made) ὁ (the) βασιλεὺς (king) διὰ (because of) τοὺς (the) ὅρκους (oaths) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) ἀνακειμένους (reclining) οὐκ (not) ἠθέλησεν (wanted) ἀθετῆσαι (to set aside) αὐτήν (her). 27  καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἀποστείλας (having sent) ὁ (the) βασιλεὺς (king) σπεκουλάτορα (an executioner) ἐπέταξεν (commanded) ἐνέγκαι (to be brought) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) αὐτοῦ (of him). καὶ (And) ἀπελθὼν (having gone away) ἀπεκεφάλισεν (he beheaded) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) φυλακῇ (prison), 28  καὶ (and) ἤνεγκεν (brought) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐπὶ (upon) πίνακι (a platter) καὶ (and) ἔδωκεν (gave) αὐτὴν (it) τῷ (to the) κορασίῳ (girl), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) κοράσιον (girl) ἔδωκεν (gave) αὐτὴν (it) τῇ (to the) μητρὶ (mother) αὐτῆς (of her).

29  καὶ (And) ἀκούσαντες (having heard of it) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἦλθον (came) καὶ (and) ἦραν (took up) τὸ (the) πτῶμα (body) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) ἔθηκαν (laid) αὐτὸ (it) ἐν (in) μνημείῳ (a tomb).

The Feeding of the Five Thousand

37  Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Δότε (Give) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) φαγεῖν (to eat).

Καὶ (And) λέγουσιν (they say) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Ἀπελθόντες (Having gone away) ἀγοράσωμεν (shall we buy) δηναρίων (denarii) διακοσίων (two hundred) ἄρτους (of loaves), καὶ (and) δώσομεν (give) αὐτοῖς (them) φαγεῖν (to eat)?

38  Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Πόσους (How many) ἄρτους (loaves) ἔχετε (do you⁺ have)? ὑπάγετε (Go) ἴδετε (see).

Καὶ (And) γνόντες (having known) λέγουσιν (they say)· Πέντε (Five), καὶ (and) δύο (two) ἰχθύας (fish).

39  Καὶ (And) ἐπέταξεν (He commanded) αὐτοῖς (them) ἀνακλῖναι (to make recline) πάντας (all) συμπόσια (groups) συμπόσια (by groups) ἐπὶ (on) τῷ (the) χλωρῷ (green) χόρτῳ (grass). 40  καὶ (And) ἀνέπεσαν (they sat down) πρασιαὶ (groups) πρασιαὶ (by groups) κατὰ (by) ἑκατὸν (hundreds) καὶ (and) κατὰ (by) πεντήκοντα (fifties).

41  Καὶ (And) λαβὼν (having taken) τοὺς (the) πέντε (five) ἄρτους (loaves) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) δύο (two) ἰχθύας (fish) ἀναβλέψας (having looked up) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οὐρανὸν (heaven) εὐλόγησεν (He blessed) καὶ (and) κατέκλασεν (broke) τοὺς (the) ἄρτους (loaves) καὶ (and) ἐδίδου (He was giving them) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἵνα (so that) παρατιθῶσιν (they might set before) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (And) τοὺς (the) δύο (two) ἰχθύας (fish) ἐμέρισεν (He divided) πᾶσιν (among all).

42  Καὶ (And) ἔφαγον (ate) πάντες (all) καὶ (and) ἐχορτάσθησαν (were satisfied)· 43  καὶ (And) ἦραν (they took up) κλάσματα (of fragments) δώδεκα (twelve) κοφίνων (hand-baskets) πληρώματα (full) καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (of) τῶν (the) ἰχθύων (fish). 44  καὶ (And) ἦσαν (were) οἱ (those) φαγόντες (having eaten of) τοὺς (the) ἄρτους (loaves) πεντακισχίλιοι (five thousand) ἄνδρες (men).

ὁ (-) Δὲ (But) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἐλάλησεν (He spoke) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Θαρσεῖτε (Take courage), ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He), μὴ (Not) φοβεῖσθε (be afraid). 51  καὶ (And) ἀνέβη (He went up) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πλοῖον (boat), καὶ (and) ἐκόπασεν (abated) ὁ (the) ἄνεμος (wind)· καὶ (And) λίαν (exceedingly) ἐκ (in) περισσοῦ (abundance) ἐν (in) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves) ἐξίσταντο (they were amazed)· 52  οὐ (not) γὰρ (For) συνῆκαν (they understood) ἐπὶ (about) τοῖς (the) ἄρτοις (loaves), ἀλλ’ (but) ἦν (was) αὐτῶν (of them) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) πεπωρωμένη (hardened).

53  Καὶ (And) διαπεράσαντες (having crossed over) ἐπὶ (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (land) ἦλθον (they came) εἰς (to) Γεννησαρὲτ (Gennesaret) καὶ (and) προσωρμίσθησαν (they drew to shore). 54  καὶ (And) ἐξελθόντων (on the having come) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) πλοίου (boat) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἐπιγνόντες (having recognized) αὐτὸν (Him) 55  περιέδραμον (they ran around) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) χώραν (region) ἐκείνην (that) καὶ (and) ἤρξαντο (they began) ἐπὶ (on) τοῖς (the) κραβάττοις (mats) τοὺς (those) κακῶς (ill) ἔχοντας (being) περιφέρειν (to carry around), ὅπου (to where) ἤκουον (they were hearing) ὅτι (that) ἐστίν (He is). 56  καὶ (And) ὅπου (wherever) ἂν (-) εἰσεπορεύετο (He was entering) εἰς (into) κώμας (villages) ἢ (or) εἰς (into) πόλεις (cities) ἢ (or) εἰς (into) ἀγροὺς (fields), ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀγοραῖς (marketplaces) ἐτίθεσαν (they were laying) τοὺς (the) ἀσθενοῦντας (ailing), καὶ (and) παρεκάλουν (were imploring) αὐτὸν (Him) ἵνα (that) κἂν (only) τοῦ (the) κρασπέδου (fringe) τοῦ (the) ἱματίου (garment) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἅψωνται (they might touch)· καὶ (and) ὅσοι (as many as) ἂν (-) ἥψαντο (touched) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἐσῴζοντο (were saved).
