Jesus Heals a Paralytic
(Mark 2:1-12; Luke 5:17-26)

1Καὶ (And) ἐμβὰς (having entered) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (a boat), διεπέρασεν (He passed over) καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (came) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) ἰδίαν (own) πόλιν (city). 2Καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), προσέφερον (they were bringing) αὐτῷ (to Him) παραλυτικὸν (a paralytic) ἐπὶ (on) κλίνης (a bed) βεβλημένον (lying). καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) αὐτῶν (of them), εἶπεν (He said) τῷ (to the) παραλυτικῷ (paralytic), “Θάρσει (Take courage), τέκνον (son); ἀφίενταί (have been forgiven) σου (of you) αἱ (the) ἁμαρτίαι (sins).”

3Καὶ (And) ἰδού (behold), τινες (some) τῶν (of the) γραμματέων (scribes) εἶπαν (said) ἐν (to) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves), “Οὗτος (This man) βλασφημεῖ (blasphemes)!”

4Καὶ (And) εἰδὼς (having known) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τὰς (the) ἐνθυμήσεις (thoughts) αὐτῶν (of them), εἶπεν (He said), “Ἵνα‿ (So that) τί (why) ἐνθυμεῖσθε (think you) πονηρὰ (evil) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you)? 5τί (Which) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) εὐκοπώτερον (easier), εἰπεῖν (to say), ‘Ἀφίενταί (Are forgiven) σου (of you) αἱ (the) ἁμαρτίαι (sins),’ ἢ (or) εἰπεῖν (to say). ‘Ἔγειρε (Arise) καὶ (and) περιπάτει (walk)?’ 6ἵνα (So that) δὲ (however) εἰδῆτε (you may know) ὅτι (that) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔχει (has) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) ἀφιέναι (to forgive) ἁμαρτίας (sins)...” τότε (Then) λέγει (He says) τῷ (to the) παραλυτικῷ (paralytic), “Ἐγερθεὶς* (Having arisen), ἆρόν (take up) σου (your) τὴν (-) κλίνην (mat), καὶ (and) ὕπαγε (go) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκόν (house) σου (of you).” 7καὶ (And) ἐγερθεὶς (having arisen), ἀπῆλθεν (he went away) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) αὐτοῦ (of him).

8Ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (now), οἱ (the) ὄχλοι (crowds) ἐφοβήθησαν (marveled) καὶ (and) ἐδόξασαν (glorified) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), τὸν (the One) δόντα (having given) ἐξουσίαν (authority) τοιαύτην (such) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (to men).

The Calling of Matthew
(Mark 2:13-17; Luke 5:27-32)

9Καὶ (And) παράγων (passing on) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐκεῖθεν (from there), εἶδεν (He saw) ἄνθρωπον (a man) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐπὶ (at) τὸ (the) τελώνιον (tax booth), Μαθθαῖον (Matthew) λεγόμενον (named). καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἀκολούθει (Follow) μοι (Me).” καὶ (And) ἀναστὰς (having arisen), ἠκολούθησεν (he followed) αὐτῷ (Him).

10Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀνακειμένου (reclining) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) οἰκίᾳ (house), καὶ (that) ἰδοὺ (behold), πολλοὶ (many) τελῶναι (tax collectors) καὶ (and) ἁμαρτωλοὶ (sinners), ἐλθόντες (having come), συνανέκειντο (were reclining with) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him). 11καὶ (And) ἰδόντες (having seen it), οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) ἔλεγον (said) τοῖς (to) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) τελωνῶν (tax collectors) καὶ (and) ἁμαρτωλῶν (sinners) ἐσθίει (eats) ὁ (the) διδάσκαλος (Teacher) ὑμῶν (of you)?”

12Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀκούσας (having heard), εἶπεν (He said), “Οὐ (Not) χρείαν (need) ἔχουσιν (have) οἱ (those) ἰσχύοντες (being strong) ἰατροῦ (of a physician), ἀλλ’ (but) οἱ (those) κακῶς (sick) ἔχοντες (being). 13πορευθέντες (Having gone) δὲ (however), μάθετε (learn) τί (what) ἐστιν (is), ‘Ἔλεος (Mercy) θέλω (I desire), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θυσίαν (sacrifice).’a οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἦλθον (I came) καλέσαι (to call) δικαίους (the righteous), ἀλλὰ (but) ἁμαρτωλούς (sinners).”

14Τότε (Then) προσέρχονται (come) αὐτῷ (to Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) Ἰωάννου (of John), λέγοντες (saying), “Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) ἡμεῖς (we) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) νηστεύομεν (do fast) ‹πολλά› (many times); οἱ (the) δὲ (however) μαθηταί (disciples) σου (of You) οὐ (not) νηστεύουσιν (fast)?”

15Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μὴ (Not) δύνανται (can) οἱ (the) υἱοὶ (sons) τοῦ (of the) νυμφῶνος (bridechamber) πενθεῖν (mourn) ἐφ’ (as) ὅσον (long as) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom)? ἐλεύσονται (Will come) δὲ (however) ἡμέραι (days) ὅταν (when) ἀπαρθῇ (shall have been taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom), καὶ (and) τότε (then) νηστεύσουσιν (they will fast).

The Patches and the Wineskins
(Mark 2:21-22; Luke 5:36-39)

16Οὐδεὶς (No one) δὲ (however) ἐπιβάλλει (puts) ἐπίβλημα (a patch) ῥάκους (of cloth) ἀγνάφου (unshrunk) ἐπὶ (on) ἱματίῳ (clothing) παλαιῷ (old); αἴρει (tears away) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) πλήρωμα (patch) αὐτοῦ (of it) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) ἱματίου (garment), καὶ (and) χεῖρον (a worse) σχίσμα (tear) γίνεται (emerges).

17Οὐδὲ (Nor) βάλλουσιν (pour they) οἶνον (wine) νέον (new) εἰς (into) ἀσκοὺς (wineskins) παλαιούς (old); εἰ (if) δὲ (now) μή¦γε (lest) ῥήγνυνται (are burst) οἱ (the) ἀσκοί (wineskins), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) οἶνος (wine) ἐκχεῖται (is poured out), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀσκοὶ (wineskins) ἀπόλλυνται (are destroyed). ἀλλὰ (But) βάλλουσιν (they pour) οἶνον (wine) νέον (new) εἰς (into) ἀσκοὺς (wineskins) καινούς (new), καὶ (and) ἀμφότεροι (both) συντηροῦνται (are preserved).”

The Healing Touch of Jesus
(Mark 5:21-43; Luke 8:40-56)

18Ταῦτα (These things) αὐτοῦ (of Him) λαλοῦντος (speaking) αὐτοῖς (to them), ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄρχων (a ruler) εἷς (certain) ἐλθὼν* (having come), προσεκύνει (was kneeling down) αὐτῷ (to Him), λέγων (saying) ὅτι (-), “Ἡ (The) θυγάτηρ (daughter) μου (of Me) ἄρτι (presently) ἐτελεύτησεν (has died); ἀλλὰ (but) ἐλθὼν (having come), ἐπίθες (lay) τὴν (the) χεῖρά (hand) σου (of You) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτήν (her), καὶ (and) ζήσεται (she will live).”

19Καὶ (And) ἐγερθεὶς (having arisen), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἠκολούθει (followed) αὐτῷ (him), καὶ (also) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him). 20Καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), γυνὴ (a woman) αἱμορροοῦσα (having had a flux of blood) δώδεκα (twelve) ἔτη (years), προσελθοῦσα (having come up) ὄπισθεν (behind Him), ἥψατο (touched) τοῦ (the) κρασπέδου (fringe) τοῦ (of the) ἱματίου (garment) αὐτοῦ (of Him). 21ἔλεγεν (She was saying) γὰρ (for) ἐν (within) ἑαυτῇ (herself), “Ἐὰν (If) μόνον (only) ἅψωμαι (I shall touch) τοῦ (the) ἱματίου (garment) αὐτοῦ (of Him), σωθήσομαι (I will be healed).”

22Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), στραφεὶς (having turned) καὶ (and) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὴν (her), εἶπεν (said), “Θάρσει (Take courage), θύγατερ (daughter); ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has cured) σε (you).” καὶ (And) ἐσώθη (was cured) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ὥρας (hour) ἐκείνης (very).

23Καὶ (And) ἐλθὼν (having come) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) τοῦ (of the) ἄρχοντος (ruler), καὶ (and) ἰδὼν (having seen) τοὺς (the) αὐλητὰς (flute players) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd) θορυβούμενον (making a commotion), 24ἔλεγεν (He says), “Ἀναχωρεῖτε (Go away). οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἀπέθανεν (is dead) τὸ (the) κοράσιον (girl), ἀλλὰ (but) καθεύδει (sleeps).” καὶ (And) κατεγέλων (they began to laugh at) αὐτοῦ (Him).

25Ὅτε (When) δὲ (now) ἐξεβλήθη (had been put outside) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd), εἰσελθὼν (having entered), ἐκράτησεν (He took hold of) τῆς (the) χειρὸς (hand) αὐτῆς (of her), καὶ (and) ἠγέρθη (arose) τὸ (the) κοράσιον (girl). 26καὶ (And) ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ἡ (the) φήμη (report) αὕτη (this) εἰς (into) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) γῆν (land) ἐκείνην (that).

Jesus Heals the Blind and Mute
(Isaiah 35:1-10; Mark 7:31-37)

27Καὶ (And) παράγοντι (passing on) ἐκεῖθεν (from there) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ἠκολούθησαν (followed) ‹αὐτῷ› (Him) δύο (two) τυφλοὶ (blind men), κράζοντες (crying out) καὶ (and) λέγοντες (saying), “Ἐλέησον (Have mercy on) ἡμᾶς (us), υἱὸς (Son) Δαυίδ (of David).”

28Ἐλθόντι (Having come) δὲ (now) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house), προσῆλθον (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) οἱ (the) τυφλοί (blind men), καὶ (and) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Πιστεύετε (Believe you) ὅτι (that) δύναμαι (I am able) τοῦτο (this) ποιῆσαι (to do)?”

Λέγουσιν (They say) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ναί (Yes), Κύριε (Lord).”

29Τότε (Then) ἥψατο (He touched) τῶν (the) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), λέγων (saying), “Κατὰ (According to) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) ὑμῶν (of you) γενηθήτω (be it) ὑμῖν (to you).” 30καὶ (And) ἠνεῴχθησαν (were opened) αὐτῶν (their) οἱ (-) ὀφθαλμοί (eyes). καὶ (And) ἐνεβριμήθη (strictly instructed) αὐτοῖς (them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), λέγων (saying), “Ὁρᾶτε (See that) μηδεὶς (no one) γινωσκέτω (knows).” 31οἱ (-) δὲ (But) ἐξελθόντες (having gone out), διεφήμισαν (they make known) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐν (in) ὅλῃ (all) τῇ (the) γῇ (land) ἐκείνῃ (that).

32Αὐτῶν (As they) δὲ (now) ἐξερχομένων (were going out), ἰδοὺ (behold), προσήνεγκαν (they brought) αὐτῷ (to Him) ‹ἄνθρωπον› (a man) κωφὸν (mute), δαιμονιζόμενον (possessed by a demon). 33καὶ (And) ἐκβληθέντος (having been cast out) τοῦ (the) δαιμονίου (demon), ἐλάλησεν (spoke) ὁ (the) κωφός (mute man). καὶ (And) ἐθαύμασαν (marveled) οἱ (the) ὄχλοι (crowds), λέγοντες (saying), “Οὐδέποτε (Never) ἐφάνη (was it seen) οὕτως (thus) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Ἰσραήλ (Israel).”

34Οἱ (The) δὲ (now) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) ἔλεγον (were saying), “Ἐν (By) τῷ (the) ἄρχοντι (prince) τῶν (of the) δαιμονίων (demons) ἐκβάλλει (He casts out) τὰ (-) δαιμόνια (demons).”

The Lord of the Harvest

35Καὶ (And) περιῆγεν (was going throughout) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τὰς (the) πόλεις (cities) πάσας (all) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) κώμας (villages), διδάσκων (teaching) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) συναγωγαῖς (synagogues) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) κηρύσσων (proclaiming) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom), καὶ (and) θεραπεύων (healing) πᾶσαν (every) νόσον (disease) καὶ (and) πᾶσαν (every) μαλακίαν (sickness). 36Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (now) τοὺς (the) ὄχλους (crowds), ἐσπλαγχνίσθη (He was moved with compassion) περὶ (for) αὐτῶν (them), ὅτι (because) ἦσαν (they were) ἐσκυλμένοι (wearied) καὶ (and) ἐρριμμένοι (cast away), ὡσεὶ (as) πρόβατα (sheep) μὴ (not) ἔχοντα (having) ποιμένα (a shepherd).

37Τότε (Then) λέγει (He says) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Ὁ (The) μὲν (indeed) θερισμὸς (harvest) πολύς (is plentiful), οἱ (the) δὲ (however) ἐργάται (workmen) ὀλίγοι (are few); 38δεήθητε (Beseech) οὖν (therefore) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) τοῦ (of the) θερισμοῦ (harvest), ὅπως (that) ἐκβάλῃ (He might send out) ἐργάτας (workmen) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) θερισμὸν (harvest) αὐτοῦ (of Him).”
