| 1Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gerasenes. | 1They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. |
| 2As soon as He got out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs and met Him. | 2When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. |
| 3He lived in the tombs. No one was able to restrain him anymore--even with chains-- | 3This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. |
| 4because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, but had snapped off the chains and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him. | 4For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. |

| 12The demons begged Him, "Send us to the pigs, so we may enter them." | 12The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them." |
| 13And He gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs, and the herd of about 2,000 rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned there. | 13He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. | 16The eyewitnesses described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and told about the pigs. | 16Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man--and told about the pigs as well. |

| 27Having heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His robe. | 27When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, |
| 28For she said, "If I can just touch His robes, I'll be made well!" | 28because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed." |
| 29Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was cured of her affliction. | 29Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. |
| 30At once Jesus realized in Himself that power had gone out from Him. He turned around in the crowd and said, "Who touched My robes?" | 30At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?" |
| 31His disciples said to Him, "You see the crowd pressing against You, and You say, Who touched Me?'" | 31"You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?' " |

| 35While He was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader's house and said, "Your daughter is dead. "Why bother the teacher anymore?" |
| 36But when Jesus overheard what was said, He told the synagogue leader, "Don't be afraid. Only believe." | 36Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, "Don't be afraid; just believe." |
| 37He did not let anyone accompany Him except Peter, James, and John, James's brother. | 37He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. |
| 38They came to the leader's house, and He saw a commotion--people weeping and wailing loudly. | 38When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. |
| 39He went in and said to them, "Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep." | 39He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep." |
| 40They started laughing at Him, but He put them all outside. He took the child's father, mother, and those who were with Him, and entered the place where the child was. | 40But they laughed at him. | 41Then He took the child by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!"). | 41He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which means "Little girl, I say to you, get up!"). |
| 42Immediately the girl got up and began to walk. (She was 12 years old.) At this they were utterly astounded. | 42Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. |
| 43Then He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this and said that she should be given something to eat. | 43He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat. |
