The Blessings of Obedience
(Leviticus 25:18–22)

1  וְהָיָ֗ה (And it shall come to pass), אִם־ (if) שָׁמ֤וֹעַ (listening) תִּשְׁמַע֙ (you will listen) בְּקוֹל֙ (to the voice) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God), לִשְׁמֹ֤ר (to observe carefully) לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ (to do) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) מִצְוֺתָ֔יו (His commandments) אֲשֶׁ֛ר (that) אָנֹכִ֥י (I) מְצַוְּךָ֖ (command you) הַיּ֑וֹם (today), וּנְתָ֨נְךָ֜ (that will set you) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ (your God) עֶלְי֔וֹן (high) עַ֖ל (above) כָּל־ (all) גּוֹיֵ֥י (nations) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth). 2  וּבָ֧אוּ (And shall come) עָלֶ֛יךָ (upon you) כָּל־ (all) הַבְּרָכ֥וֹת (the blessings) הָאֵ֖לֶּה (these) וְהִשִּׂיגֻ֑ךָ (and overtake you) כִּ֣י (if) תִשְׁמַ֔ע (you listen) בְּק֖וֹל (to the voice) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ (your God).

3  בָּר֥וּךְ (Blessed) אַתָּ֖ה (are you) בָּעִ֑יר (in the city),

וּבָר֥וּךְ (and blessed) אַתָּ֖ה (are you) בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ (in the field).

4  בָּר֧וּךְ (Blessed is) פְּרִֽי־ (the fruit) בִטְנְךָ֛ (of your womb),

וּפְרִ֥י (and the fruit) אַדְמָתְךָ֖ (of your ground),

וּפְרִ֣י (and the increase) בְהֶמְתֶּ֑ךָ (of your herd),

שְׁגַ֥ר (the increase) אֲלָפֶ֖יךָ (of your cattle),

וְעַשְׁתְּר֥וֹת (and the increase) צֹאנֶֽךָ׃ (of your flock).

5  בָּר֥וּךְ (Blessed is) טַנְאֲךָ֖ (your basket) וּמִשְׁאַרְתֶּֽךָ׃ (and your kneading bowl).

6  בָּר֥וּךְ (Blessed) אַתָּ֖ה (are you) בְּבֹאֶ֑ךָ (in your coming in),

וּבָר֥וּךְ (and blessed) אַתָּ֖ה (are you) בְּצֵאתֶֽךָ׃ (in your going out).

7  יִתֵּ֨ן (Will cause) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) אֹיְבֶ֙יךָ֙ (your enemies) הַקָּמִ֣ים (who rise) עָלֶ֔יךָ (against you) נִגָּפִ֖ים (to be defeated) לְפָנֶ֑יךָ (before your face); בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ (way) אֶחָד֙ (in one) יֵצְא֣וּ (they shall come out) אֵלֶ֔יךָ (against you), וּבְשִׁבְעָ֥ה (and in seven) דְרָכִ֖ים (ways) יָנ֥וּסוּ (they shall flee) לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃ (before you).

8  יְצַ֨ו (Will command) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אִתְּךָ֙ (with you) אֶת־ (-) הַבְּרָכָ֔ה (the blessing) בַּאֲסָמֶ֕יךָ (in your barns) וּבְכֹ֖ל (and in every) מִשְׁלַ֣ח (putting forth) יָדֶ֑ךָ (of your hand), וּבֵ֣רַכְךָ֔ (and He will bless you) בָּאָ֕רֶץ (in the land) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God) נֹתֵ֥ן (is giving) לָֽךְ׃ (to you). 9  יְקִֽימְךָ֨ (Will establish you) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) לוֹ֙ (to Himself) לְעַ֣ם (as a people) קָד֔וֹשׁ (holy), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) נִֽשְׁבַּֽע־ (He has sworn) לָ֑ךְ (to you), כִּ֣י (if) תִשְׁמֹ֗ר (you keep) אֶת־ (-) מִצְוֺת֙ (the commandments) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) וְהָלַכְתָּ֖ (and walk) בִּדְרָכָֽיו׃ (in His ways). 10  וְרָאוּ֙ (And shall see) כָּל־ (all) עַמֵּ֣י (peoples) הָאָ֔רֶץ (of the earth) כִּ֛י (that) שֵׁ֥ם (the name) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) נִקְרָ֣א (is called) עָלֶ֑יךָ (upon you), וְיָֽרְא֖וּ (and they shall be afraid) מִמֶּֽךָּ׃ (of you).

11  וְהוֹתִֽרְךָ֤ (And will make you abound) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) לְטוֹבָ֔ה (in prosperity), בִּפְרִ֧י (in the fruit) בִטְנְךָ֛ (of your womb), וּבִפְרִ֥י (and in the fruit) בְהַמְתְּךָ֖ (of your livestock), וּבִפְרִ֣י (and in the fruit) אַדְמָתֶ֑ךָ (of your ground) עַ֚ל (in) הָאֲדָמָ֔ה (the land) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) נִשְׁבַּ֧ע (swore) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) לַאֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ (to your fathers) לָ֥תֶת (to give) לָֽךְ׃ (to you).

12  יִפְתַּ֣ח (Will open) יְהוָ֣ה׀ (YHWH) לְ֠ךָ (to you) אֶת־ (-) אוֹצָר֨וֹ (His treasure) הַטּ֜וֹב (good), אֶת־ (-) הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם (the heavens) לָתֵ֤ת (to give) מְטַֽר־ (rain) אַרְצְךָ֙ (to your land) בְּעִתּ֔וֹ (in its season), וּלְבָרֵ֕ךְ (and to bless) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה (the work) יָדֶ֑ךָ (of your hand). וְהִלְוִ֙יתָ֙ (And you shall lend to) גּוֹיִ֣ם (nations) רַבִּ֔ים (many), וְאַתָּ֖ה (and you) לֹ֥א (not) תִלְוֶֽה׃ (shall you borrow).

13  וּנְתָֽנְךָ֨ (And will make you) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) לְרֹאשׁ֙ (the head) וְלֹ֣א (and not) לְזָנָ֔ב (the tail), וְהָיִ֙יתָ֙ (and you shall be) רַ֣ק (only) לְמַ֔עְלָה (above), וְלֹ֥א (and not) תִהְיֶ֖ה (be) לְמָ֑טָּה (beneath), כִּֽי־ (if) תִשְׁמַ֞ע (you listen) אֶל־ (to) מִצְוֺ֣ת׀ (the commandments) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ (your God), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (which) אָנֹכִ֧י (I) מְצַוְּךָ֛ (am commanding you) הַיּ֖וֹם (today), לִשְׁמֹ֥ר (to keep) וְלַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ (and do). 14  וְלֹ֣א (And not) תָס֗וּר (you shall turn aside) מִכָּל־ (from any) הַדְּבָרִים֙ (of the words) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) אָנֹכִ֜י (I) מְצַוֶּ֥ה (am commanding) אֶתְכֶ֛ם (you⁺) הַיּ֖וֹם (this day), יָמִ֣ין (to the right) וּשְׂמֹ֑אול (or to the left), לָלֶ֗כֶת (to go) אַחֲרֵ֛י (after) אֱלֹהִ֥ים (gods) אֲחֵרִ֖ים (other) לְעָבְדָֽם׃ס (to serve them).

The Curses of Disobedience
(Leviticus 20:1–9; Leviticus 26:14–39)

15  וְהָיָ֗ה (And it shall come to pass), אִם־ (if) לֹ֤א (not) תִשְׁמַע֙ (you do listen) בְּקוֹל֙ (to the voice) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God), לִשְׁמֹ֤ר (to observe carefully) לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ (to do) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) מִצְוֺתָ֣יו (His commandments) וְחֻקֹּתָ֔יו (and His statutes) אֲשֶׁ֛ר (that) אָנֹכִ֥י (I) מְצַוְּךָ֖ (am commanding you) הַיּ֑וֹם (today); וּבָ֧אוּ (and will come) עָלֶ֛יךָ (upon you) כָּל־ (that all) הַקְּלָל֥וֹת (the curses) הָאֵ֖לֶּה (these) וְהִשִּׂיגֽוּךָ׃ (and overtake you).

16  אָר֥וּר (Cursed) אַתָּ֖ה (are you) בָּעִ֑יר (in the city),

וְאָר֥וּר (and cursed) אַתָּ֖ה (are you) בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ (in the field).

17  אָר֥וּר (Cursed is) טַנְאֲךָ֖ (your basket) וּמִשְׁאַרְתֶּֽךָ׃ (and your kneading bowl).

18  אָר֥וּר (Cursed is) פְּרִֽי־ (the fruit) בִטְנְךָ֖ (of your womb),

וּפְרִ֣י (and the fruit) אַדְמָתֶ֑ךָ (of your ground),

שְׁגַ֥ר (the increase) אֲלָפֶ֖יךָ (of your cattle),

וְעַשְׁתְּר֥וֹת (and the young) צֹאנֶֽךָ׃ (of your flock).

19  אָר֥וּר (Cursed) אַתָּ֖ה (are you) בְּבֹאֶ֑ךָ (in your coming in),

וְאָר֥וּר (and cursed) אַתָּ֖ה (are you) בְּצֵאתֶֽךָ׃ (in your going out).

20  יְשַׁלַּ֣ח (Will send) יְהוָ֣ה׀ (YHWH) בְּ֠ךָ (on you) אֶת־ (-) הַמְּאֵרָ֤ה (the cursing), אֶת־ (-) הַמְּהוּמָה֙ (the confusion), וְאֶת־ (and) הַמִּגְעֶ֔רֶת (the rebuke), בְּכָל־ (in every) מִשְׁלַ֥ח (putting forth) יָדְךָ֖ (of your hand) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) תַּעֲשֶׂ֑ה (to do), עַ֣ד (until) הִשָּֽׁמֶדְךָ֤ (you are destroyed) וְעַד־ (and until) אֲבָדְךָ֙ (you perish) מַהֵ֔ר (quickly), מִפְּנֵ֛י (because) רֹ֥עַ (of the wickedness) מַֽעֲלָלֶ֖יךָ (of your doings) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (in which) עֲזַבְתָּֽנִי׃ (you have forsaken Me).

21  יַדְבֵּ֧ק (Will make cling) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) בְּךָ֖ (to you) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּ֑בֶר (the plague), עַ֚ד (until) כַּלֹּת֣וֹ (He has consumed) אֹֽתְךָ֔ (you) מֵעַל֙ (from) הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה (the land) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) אַתָּ֥ה (you) בָא־ (are going in) שָׁ֖מָּה (there) לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ (to possess). 22  יַכְּכָ֣ה (Will strike you) יְ֠הוָה (YHWH) בַּשַּׁחֶ֨פֶת (with consumption), וּבַקַּדַּ֜חַת (and with fever), וּבַדַּלֶּ֗קֶת (and with inflammation), וּבַֽחַרְחֻר֙ (and with severe burning fever), וּבַחֶ֔רֶב (and with the sword), וּבַשִּׁדָּפ֖וֹן (and with scorching), וּבַיֵּרָק֑וֹן (and with mildew); וּרְדָפ֖וּךָ (and they shall pursue you) עַ֥ד (until) אָבְדֶֽךָ׃ (you perish). 23  וְהָי֥וּ (And shall be) שָׁמֶ֛יךָ (your heavens) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that are) עַל־ (over) רֹאשְׁךָ֖ (your head) נְחֹ֑שֶׁת (bronze), וְהָאָ֥רֶץ (and the earth) אֲשֶׁר־ (that is) תַּחְתֶּ֖יךָ (under you) בַּרְזֶֽל׃ (iron).

24  יִתֵּ֧ן (Will give) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מְטַ֥ר (the rain) אַרְצְךָ֖ (of your land) אָבָ֣ק (to be dust) וְעָפָ֑ר (and powder); מִן־ (from) הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ (the heavens) יֵרֵ֣ד (it shall come down) עָלֶ֔יךָ (on you) עַ֖ד (until) הִשָּׁמְדָֽךְ׃ (you are destroyed).

25  יִתֶּנְךָ֨ (Will cause you) יְהוָ֥ה׀ (YHWH) נִגָּף֮ (to be defeated) לִפְנֵ֣י (before) אֹיְבֶיךָ֒ (your enemies); בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ (way) אֶחָד֙ (one) תֵּצֵ֣א (you shall go out) אֵלָ֔יו (against him), וּבְשִׁבְעָ֥ה (and seven) דְרָכִ֖ים (ways) תָּנ֣וּס (you shall flee) לְפָנָ֑יו (before his face), וְהָיִ֣יתָ (and you shall become) לְזַעֲוָ֔ה (troublesome) לְכֹ֖ל (to all) מַמְלְכ֥וֹת (the kingdoms) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth). 26  וְהָיְתָ֤ה (And shall be) נִבְלָֽתְךָ֙ (your carcass) לְמַאֲכָ֔ל (food) לְכָל־ (for all) ע֥וֹף (the birds) הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (of the heavens) וּלְבֶהֱמַ֣ת (and the beasts) הָאָ֑רֶץ (of the earth), וְאֵ֖ין (and no one) מַחֲרִֽיד׃ (shall frighten them away).

27  יַכְּכָ֨ה (Will strike you) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) בִּשְׁחִ֤ין (with the boils) מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (of Egypt), וּבָעֳפָלִים (and with the tumors), וּבַגָּרָ֖ב (and with the scab), וּבֶחָ֑רֶס (and with the itch), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (from which) לֹא־ (not) תוּכַ֖ל (you are able) לְהֵרָפֵֽא׃ (to be healed).

28  יַכְּכָ֣ה (Will strike you) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) בְּשִׁגָּע֖וֹן (with madness) וּבְעִוָּר֑וֹן (and blindness) וּבְתִמְה֖וֹן (and confusion) לֵבָֽב׃ (of mind), 29  וְהָיִ֜יתָ (and you shall) מְמַשֵּׁ֣שׁ (grope) בַּֽצָּהֳרַ֗יִם (at noonday) כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (as) יְמַשֵּׁ֤שׁ (gropes) הָעִוֵּר֙ (a blind the man) בָּאֲפֵלָ֔ה (in darkness), וְלֹ֥א (and not) תַצְלִ֖יחַ (you shall prosper) אֶת־ (-) דְּרָכֶ֑יךָ (in your ways). וְהָיִ֜יתָ (And you shall be) אַ֣ךְ (only) עָשׁ֧וּק (oppressed) וְגָז֛וּל (and plundered) כָּל־ (all) הַיָּמִ֖ים (of the days), וְאֵ֥ין (and no one) מוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃ (shall save you).

30  אִשָּׁ֣ה (A wife) תְאָרֵ֗שׂ (you shall betroth), וְאִ֤ישׁ (and man) אַחֵר֙ (another) יִשְׁגָּלֶנָּה (shall lie with her). בַּ֥יִת (A house) תִּבְנֶ֖ה (you shall build), וְלֹא־ (not) תֵשֵׁ֣ב (you shall dwell) בּ֑וֹ (in it). כֶּ֥רֶם (A vineyard) תִּטַּ֖ע (you shall plant), וְלֹ֥א (not) תְחַלְּלֶּֽנּוּ׃ (shall you gather its grapes). 31  שׁוֹרְךָ֞ (Your ox) טָב֣וּחַ (shall be slaughtered) לְעֵינֶ֗יךָ (before your eyes), וְלֹ֣א (not) תֹאכַל֮ (you shall eat) מִמֶּנּוּ֒ (of it). חֲמֹֽרְךָ֙ (Your donkey) גָּז֣וּל (shall be seized) מִלְּפָנֶ֔יךָ (from before your face), וְלֹ֥א (and not) יָשׁ֖וּב (shall be restored) לָ֑ךְ (to you). צֹֽאנְךָ֙ (Your sheep) נְתֻנ֣וֹת (shall be given given) לְאֹיְבֶ֔יךָ (to your enemies), וְאֵ֥ין (and shall have no one) לְךָ֖ (you) מוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃ (to rescue them).

32  בָּנֶ֨יךָ (Your sons) וּבְנֹתֶ֜יךָ (and your daughters) נְתֻנִ֨ים (shall be given) לְעַ֤ם (to people) אַחֵר֙ (another), וְעֵינֶ֣יךָ (and your eyes) רֹא֔וֹת (shall look) וְכָל֥וֹת (and fail) אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (toward them) כָּל־ (all) הַיּ֑וֹם (the day), וְאֵ֥ין (and there is no) לְאֵ֖ל (power) יָדֶֽךָ׃ (in your hand). 33  פְּרִ֤י (The fruit) אַדְמָֽתְךָ֙ (of your land) וְכָל־ (and of all) יְגִ֣יעֲךָ֔ (your toil) יֹאכַ֥ל (shall eat) עַ֖ם (a nation) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) לֹא־ (not) יָדָ֑עְתָּ (you have known), וְהָיִ֗יתָ (and you shall be) רַ֛ק (only) עָשׁ֥וּק (oppressed) וְרָצ֖וּץ (and crushed) כָּל־ (all) הַיָּמִֽים׃ (the days). 34  וְהָיִ֖יתָ (And you shall be) מְשֻׁגָּ֑ע (driven mad) מִמַּרְאֵ֥ה (because of the sight) עֵינֶ֖יךָ (of your eyes) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) תִּרְאֶֽה׃ (you see).

35  יַכְּכָ֨ה (Will strike you) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) בִּשְׁחִ֣ין (with boils) רָ֗ע (severe) עַל־ (in) הַבִּרְכַּ֙יִם֙ (the knees) וְעַל־ (and on) הַשֹּׁקַ֔יִם (the legs), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) לֹא־ (not) תוּכַ֖ל (are able) לְהֵרָפֵ֑א (to be healed), מִכַּ֥ף (from the sole) רַגְלְךָ֖ (of your foot) וְעַ֥ד (and to) קָדְקֳדֶֽךָ׃ (the top of your head).

36  יוֹלֵ֨ךְ (Shall bring) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֹֽתְךָ֗ (you) וְאֶֽת־ (and) מַלְכְּךָ֙ (the king) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) תָּקִ֣ים (you set) עָלֶ֔יךָ (over you) אֶל־ (to) גּ֕וֹי (a nation) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) לֹא־ (neither) יָדַ֖עְתָּ (have known) אַתָּ֣ה (you) וַאֲבֹתֶ֑יךָ (or your fathers), וְעָבַ֥דְתָּ (and you will serve) שָּׁ֛ם (there) אֱלֹהִ֥ים (gods) אֲחֵרִ֖ים (other) עֵ֥ץ (of wood) וָאָֽבֶן׃ (and stone). 37  וְהָיִ֣יתָ (And you shall become) לְשַׁמָּ֔ה (an astonishment), לְמָשָׁ֖ל (a proverb), וְלִשְׁנִינָ֑ה (and a byword) בְּכֹל֙ (among all) הָֽעַמִּ֔ים (the nations) אֲשֶׁר־ (to which) יְנַהֶגְךָ֥ (will drive you) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) שָֽׁמָּה׃ (there).

38  זֶ֥רַע (Seed) רַ֖ב (much) תּוֹצִ֣יא (you shall carry out) הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה (into the field), וּמְעַ֣ט (and little) תֶּאֱסֹ֔ף (gather in), כִּ֥י (for) יַחְסְלֶ֖נּוּ (shall consume it) הָאַרְבֶּֽה׃ (the locust). 39  כְּרָמִ֥ים (Vineyards) תִּטַּ֖ע (you shall plant) וְעָבָ֑דְתָּ (and tend them), וְיַ֤יִן (and of the wine) לֹֽא־ (not) תִשְׁתֶּה֙ (you shall drink) וְלֹ֣א (and not) תֶאֱגֹ֔ר (gather) כִּ֥י (for) תֹאכְלֶ֖נּוּ (shall consume it) הַתֹּלָֽעַת׃ (the worms). 40  זֵיתִ֛ים (Olive trees) יִהְי֥וּ (shall be) לְךָ֖ (unto you) בְּכָל־ (throughout all) גְּבוּלֶ֑ךָ (your territory), וְשֶׁ֙מֶן֙ (and with the oil) לֹ֣א (not) תָס֔וּךְ (you shall anoint), כִּ֥י (for) יִשַּׁ֖ל (shall drop off) זֵיתֶֽךָ׃ (your olives). 41  בָּנִ֥ים (Sons) וּבָנ֖וֹת (and daughters) תּוֹלִ֑יד (you shall bear), וְלֹא־ (not) יִהְי֣וּ (they shall be) לָ֔ךְ (yours), כִּ֥י (for) יֵלְכ֖וּ (they shall go) בַּשֶּֽׁבִי׃ (into captivity). 42  כָּל־ (All) עֵצְךָ֖ (your trees) וּפְרִ֣י (and the produce) אַדְמָתֶ֑ךָ (of your land) יְיָרֵ֖שׁ (shall consume) הַצְּלָצַֽל׃ (the locust).

43  הַגֵּר֙ (The sojourner) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who is) בְּקִרְבְּךָ֔ (among you) יַעֲלֶ֥ה (shall rise) עָלֶ֖יךָ (above you) מַ֣עְלָה (higher) מָּ֑עְלָה (and higher), וְאַתָּ֥ה (and you) תֵרֵ֖ד (shall descend) מַ֥טָּה (lower) מָּֽטָּה׃ (and lower). 44  ה֣וּא (He) יַלְוְךָ֔ (shall lend to you), וְאַתָּ֖ה (and you) לֹ֣א (not) תַלְוֶ֑נּוּ (shall lend to him). ה֚וּא (He) יִהְיֶ֣ה (shall be) לְרֹ֔אשׁ (the head), וְאַתָּ֖ה (and you) תִּֽהְיֶ֥ה (shall be) לְזָנָֽב׃ (the tail).

45  וּבָ֨אוּ (And shall come) עָלֶ֜יךָ (upon you) כָּל־ (all) הַקְּלָל֣וֹת (the curses) הָאֵ֗לֶּה (these) וּרְדָפ֙וּךָ֙ (and pursue) וְהִשִּׂיג֔וּךָ (and overtake you) עַ֖ד (until) הִשָּֽׁמְדָ֑ךְ (you are destroyed), כִּי־ (because) לֹ֣א (not) שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ (you did obey) בְּקוֹל֙ (the voice) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) לִשְׁמֹ֛ר (to keep) מִצְוֺתָ֥יו (His commandments) וְחֻקֹּתָ֖יו (and His statutes) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) צִוָּֽךְ׃ (He commanded you). 46  וְהָי֣וּ (And they shall be) בְךָ֔ (upon you) לְא֖וֹת (for a sign) וּלְמוֹפֵ֑ת (and a wonder), וּֽבְזַרְעֲךָ֖ (and on your seed) עַד־ (even to) עוֹלָֽם׃ (forever).

47  תַּ֗חַת (Because) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) לֹא־ (not) עָבַ֙דְתָּ֙ (you did serve) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) בְּשִׂמְחָ֖ה (with joy) וּבְט֣וּב (and gladness) לֵבָ֑ב (of heart) מֵרֹ֖ב (from the abundance) כֹּֽל׃ (of all things), 48  וְעָבַדְתָּ֣ (therefore you shall serve) אֶת־ (-) אֹיְבֶ֗יךָ (your enemies), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (whom) יְשַׁלְּחֶ֤נּוּ (will send) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) בָּ֔ךְ (against you), בְּרָעָ֧ב (in hunger) וּבְצָמָ֛א (and in thirst) וּבְעֵירֹ֖ם (and in nakedness) וּבְחֹ֣סֶר (and in lack) כֹּ֑ל (of all things), וְנָתַ֞ן (and He will put) עֹ֤ל (a yoke) בַּרְזֶל֙ (of iron) עַל־ (on) צַוָּארֶ֔ךָ (your neck) עַ֥ד (until) הִשְׁמִיד֖וֹ (He has destroyed) אֹתָֽךְ׃ (you).

49  יִשָּׂ֣א (Will bring) יְהוָה֩ (YHWH) עָלֶ֨יךָ (against you) גּ֤וֹי (a nation) מֵרָחוֹק֙ (from afar), מִקְצֵ֣ה (from the end) הָאָ֔רֶץ (of the earth), כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) יִדְאֶ֖ה (flies) הַנָּ֑שֶׁר (the eagle), גּ֕וֹי (a nation) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (of whom) לֹא־ (not) תִשְׁמַ֖ע (you have heard) לְשֹׁנֽוֹ׃ (the tongue), 50  גּ֖וֹי (a nation) עַ֣ז (fierce) פָּנִ֑ים (of face), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (which) לֹא־ (not) יִשָּׂ֤א (does respect) פָנִים֙ (the face) לְזָקֵ֔ן (of the aged), וְנַ֖עַר (and the young) לֹ֥א (not) יָחֹֽן׃ (does show favor to). 51  וְ֠אָכַל (And they shall eat) פְּרִ֨י (the increase) בְהֶמְתְּךָ֥ (of your livestock) וּפְרִֽי־ (and the produce) אַדְמָתְךָ֮ (of your land), עַ֣ד (until) הִשָּֽׁמְדָךְ֒ (you are destroyed), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (which) לֹֽא־ (not) יַשְׁאִ֜יר (will leave) לְךָ֗ (to you) דָּגָן֙ (grain), תִּיר֣וֹשׁ (or new wine), וְיִצְהָ֔ר (or oil), שְׁגַ֥ר (or offspring) אֲלָפֶ֖יךָ (of your cattle), וְעַשְׁתְּרֹ֣ת (or increase) צֹאנֶ֑ךָ (of your flock), עַ֥ד (until) הַאֲבִיד֖וֹ (they have destroyed) אֹתָֽךְ׃ (you). 52  וְהֵצַ֨ר (And they shall lay siege) לְךָ֜ (to you) בְּכָל־ (in all) שְׁעָרֶ֗יךָ (your gates), עַ֣ד (until) רֶ֤דֶת (come down) חֹמֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ (your walls) הַגְּבֹה֣וֹת (high) וְהַבְּצֻר֔וֹת (and fortified) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (in which) אַתָּ֛ה (you) בֹּטֵ֥חַ (trust), בָּהֵ֖ן (in) בְּכָל־ (all) אַרְצֶ֑ךָ (your land), וְהֵצַ֤ר (and they shall besiege) לְךָ֙ (you) בְּכָל־ (in all) שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ (your gates) בְּכָ֨ל־ (in all) אַרְצְךָ֔ (your land) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) נָתַ֛ן (has given) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God) לָֽךְ׃ (to you).

53  וְאָכַלְתָּ֣ (And you shall eat) פְרִֽי־ (the fruit) בִטְנְךָ֗ (of your womb), בְּשַׂ֤ר (the flesh) בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ (of your sons) וּבְנֹתֶ֔יךָ (and your daughters) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (whom) נָֽתַן־ (has given) לְךָ֖ (you) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ (your God), בְּמָצוֹר֙ (in the siege) וּבְמָצ֔וֹק (and dire straits) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) יָצִ֥יק (will inflict) לְךָ֖ (on you) אֹיְבֶֽךָ׃ (your enemy).

54  הָאִישׁ֙ (The man) הָרַ֣ךְ (the tender) בְּךָ֔ (among you) וְהֶעָנֹ֖ג (and refined) מְאֹ֑ד (very)— תֵּרַ֨ע (shall do evil) עֵינ֤וֹ (his eye) בְאָחִיו֙ (against his brother), וּבְאֵ֣שֶׁת (and against the wife) חֵיק֔וֹ (of his bosom), וּבְיֶ֥תֶר (and against the remnant) בָּנָ֖יו (of his sons) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (whom) יוֹתִֽיר׃ (he leaves behind), 55  מִתֵּ֣ת׀ (so that he will not give) לְאַחַ֣ד (to one) מֵהֶ֗ם (of them) מִבְּשַׂ֤ר (the flesh) בָּנָיו֙ (of his children) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) יֹאכֵ֔ל (he will eat), מִבְּלִ֥י (nothing) הִשְׁאִֽיר־ (because there remains) ל֖וֹ (for him) כֹּ֑ל (at all) בְּמָצוֹר֙ (in the siege) וּבְמָצ֔וֹק (and dire straits) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) יָצִ֥יק (will inflict) לְךָ֛ (on you) אֹיִבְךָ֖ (your enemy) בְּכָל־ (at all) שְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃ (your gates).

56  הָרַכָּ֨ה (The tender) בְךָ֜ (among you) וְהָעֲנֻגָּ֗ה (and delicate woman) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) לֹא־ (not) נִסְּתָ֤ה (would venture) כַף־ (the sole) רַגְלָהּ֙ (of her foot) הַצֵּ֣ג (to set) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the ground) מֵהִתְעַנֵּ֖ג (because of her delicateness) וּמֵרֹ֑ךְ (and tenderness)— תֵּרַ֤ע (is evil) עֵינָהּ֙ (her eye) בְּאִ֣ישׁ (against the husband) חֵיקָ֔הּ (of her bosom), וּבִבְנָ֖הּ (and against her son), וּבְבִתָּֽהּ׃ (and against her daughter), 57  וּֽבְשִׁלְיָתָ֞הּ (and against her afterbirth) הַיּוֹצֵ֣ת׀ (that comes) מִבֵּ֣ין (from between) רַגְלֶ֗יהָ (her feet), וּבְבָנֶ֙יהָ֙ (and against her children) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) תֵּלֵ֔ד (she bears). כִּֽי־ (For) תֹאכְלֵ֥ם (she will eat them) בְּחֹֽסֶר־ (for lack) כֹּ֖ל (of anything) בַּסָּ֑תֶר (in secret) בְּמָצוֹר֙ (in the siege) וּבְמָצ֔וֹק (and dire straits), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) יָצִ֥יק (will inflict) לְךָ֛ (on you) אֹיִבְךָ֖ (your enemy) בִּשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃ (within your gates).

58  אִם־ (If) לֹ֨א (not) תִשְׁמֹ֜ר (you are careful) לַעֲשׂ֗וֹת (to do) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) דִּבְרֵי֙ (the words) הַתּוֹרָ֣ה (of the law) הַזֹּ֔את (this) הַכְּתוּבִ֖ים (written) בַּסֵּ֣פֶר (in the book) הַזֶּ֑ה (this), לְ֠יִרְאָה (that you may fear) אֶת־ (-) הַשֵּׁ֞ם (the name) הַנִּכְבָּ֤ד (glorious) וְהַנּוֹרָא֙ (and awesome) הַזֶּ֔ה (this)— אֵ֖ת (-) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ (your God). 59  וְהִפְלָ֤א (And will bring extraordinary) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מַכֹּ֣תְךָ֔ (plagues) וְאֵ֖ת (and) מַכּ֣וֹת (the plagues) זַרְעֶ֑ךָ (of your seed), מַכּ֤וֹת (plagues) גְּדֹלוֹת֙ (great) וְנֶ֣אֱמָנ֔וֹת (and prolonged) וָחֳלָיִ֥ם (and sicknesses), רָעִ֖ים (evil) וְנֶאֱמָנִֽים׃ (and prolonged). 60  וְהֵשִׁ֣יב (And He will bring back) בְּךָ֗ (on you) אֵ֚ת (-) כָּל־ (all) מַדְוֵ֣ה (the diseases) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) יָגֹ֖רְתָּ (you were afraid) מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם (of the presence), וְדָבְק֖וּ (and they shall cling) בָּֽךְ׃ (to you).

61  גַּ֤ם (Also) כָּל־ (every) חֳלִי֙ (sickness) וְכָל־ (and every) מַכָּ֔ה (plague) אֲשֶׁר֙ (that) לֹ֣א (not) כָת֔וּב (is written) בְּסֵ֖פֶר (in the Book) הַתּוֹרָ֣ה (of the Law) הַזֹּ֑את (this) יַעְלֵ֤ם (will bring) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) עָלֶ֔יךָ (upon you) עַ֖ד (until) הִשָּׁמְדָֽךְ׃ (you are destroyed). 62  וְנִשְׁאַרְתֶּם֙ (And you⁺ shall be left) בִּמְתֵ֣י (men) מְעָ֔ט (few) תַּ֚חַת (instead) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (of which) הֱיִיתֶ֔ם (you⁺ were) כְּכוֹכְבֵ֥י (as stars) הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (of the heavens) לָרֹ֑ב (in multitude), כִּי־ (because) לֹ֣א (not) שָׁמַ֔עְתָּ (you would listen) בְּק֖וֹל (to the voice) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ (your God).

63  וְ֠הָיָה (And it shall come to pass) כַּאֲשֶׁר־ (that as) שָׂ֨שׂ (rejoiced) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) עֲלֵיכֶ֗ם (over you⁺) לְהֵיטִ֣יב (to do good) אֶתְכֶם֮ (you⁺) וּלְהַרְבּ֣וֹת (and multiply) אֶתְכֶם֒ (you⁺), כֵּ֣ן (so) יָשִׂ֤ישׂ (will rejoice) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם (over you⁺) לְהַאֲבִ֥יד (to destroy) אֶתְכֶ֖ם (you⁺) וּלְהַשְׁמִ֣יד (and bring to nothing) אֶתְכֶ֑ם (you⁺), וְנִסַּחְתֶּם֙ (and you⁺ shall be plucked) מֵעַ֣ל (from off) הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה (the land) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) אַתָּ֥ה (you) בָא־ (are going) שָׁ֖מָּה (there) לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ (to possess).

64  וֶהֱפִֽיצְךָ֤ (And will scatter you) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) בְּכָל־ (among all) הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים (the peoples), מִקְצֵ֥ה (from the end) הָאָ֖רֶץ (of the earth) וְעַד־ (and to) קְצֵ֣ה (the end) הָאָ֑רֶץ (of the earth) וְעָבַ֨דְתָּ (and you shall serve) שָּׁ֜ם (there) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (gods) אֲחֵרִ֗ים (other)— אֲשֶׁ֧ר (which) לֹא־ (neither) יָדַ֛עְתָּ (have known) אַתָּ֥ה (you) וַאֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ (and not your fathers)— עֵ֥ץ (wood) וָאָֽבֶן׃ (and stone). 65  וּבַגּוֹיִ֤ם (And among the nations) הָהֵם֙ (those) לֹ֣א (not) תַרְגִּ֔יעַ (you shall find rest), וְלֹא־ (and not) יִהְיֶ֥ה (shall you have) מָנ֖וֹחַ (a resting place) לְכַף־ (for the sole) רַגְלֶ֑ךָ (of your foot). וְנָתַן֩ (And will give) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) לְךָ֥ (to you) שָׁם֙ (there) לֵ֣ב (a heart) רַגָּ֔ז (trembling), וְכִלְי֥וֹן (and failing) עֵינַ֖יִם (eyes), וְדַֽאֲב֥וֹן (and anguish) נָֽפֶשׁ׃ (of soul).

66  וְהָי֣וּ (And shall be) חַיֶּ֔יךָ (your life) תְּלֻאִ֥ים (hanging in doubt) לְךָ֖ (to you) מִנֶּ֑גֶד (before), וּפָֽחַדְתָּ֙ (and you shall dread) לַ֣יְלָה (night) וְיוֹמָ֔ם (and day) וְלֹ֥א (and not) תַאֲמִ֖ין (have assurance) בְּחַיֶּֽיךָ׃ (of life); 67  בַּבֹּ֤קֶר (in the morning) תֹּאמַר֙ (you shall say), מִֽי־ (Would that) יִתֵּ֣ן (be granted) עֶ֔רֶב (evening)! וּבָעֶ֥רֶב (And at the evening) תֹּאמַ֖ר (you shall say), מִֽי־ (Would that) יִתֵּ֣ן (be granted) בֹּ֑קֶר (morning)! מִפַּ֤חַד (Because of the dread) לְבָֽבְךָ֙ (of your heart) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) תִּפְחָ֔ד (you dread), וּמִמַּרְאֵ֥ה (and because of the sight) עֵינֶ֖יךָ (of your eyes) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) תִּרְאֶֽה׃ (you see).

68  וֶֽהֱשִֽׁיבְךָ֨ (And will take you back) יְהוָ֥ה׀ (YHWH) מִצְרַיִם֮ (to Egypt) בָּאֳנִיּוֹת֒ (in ships) בַּדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ (by the way) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (of which) אָמַ֣רְתִּֽי (I said) לְךָ֔ (to you) לֹא־ (never) תֹסִ֥יף (will you add) ע֖וֹד (again) לִרְאֹתָ֑הּ (to see it), וְהִתְמַכַּרְתֶּ֨ם (and you⁺ will sell yourselves) שָׁ֧ם (there) לְאֹיְבֶ֛יךָ (to your enemies) לַעֲבָדִ֥ים (for menservants) וְלִשְׁפָח֖וֹת (and for maidservants), וְאֵ֥ין (and no one) קֹנֶֽה׃ס (will buy you).
